If i got the chance though i would tell him what i thought.

Prince doesn't give a shit though; we are like the dirt on his shoes to him.

The only time he even talks to his fans/fellow humans is to demand something or preach 'the truth'.

Why not a civil message saying to us explaining what he keeps doing? many other artists leave meassages for their supporters but Prince feels we are beneath him unless of course we love jehovah.

I disagree with you sometimes police but here I nod my head off to u. I put my fan status down from hardcore to enthusiast..because no matter what he does in his personal life..his music really touches me. But at times his actions are truley offensive to his fans.

I would feel I really could support him if I knew what his "Call to Arms" is about with cuttin' people like he is. He has been like this since the before the Emancipation era (where I understood he was fighting for the oppressed rights of artists over control over THIER own music)..but this is going a too far. But guess what? This site and fan sites like this one are next!! We're gonna get the ol' slam
And his reasons are gonna be from "I made them..I can get rid of them" to "there defacing my image from thier posts to the degrading pictures"

Thanls for being totally logical; many aren't

i agree;unfortunately there is no way to contact Prince to express our feelings. He has no myspace, doesn't take fan letters, doesn't do interviews, doesn't do any meet and greets; nothing.

Why is it ok for Prince to play other folks music at the super bowl? Did they have a choice? I know it is live and P isn't making any $ of the song but a kid dancing in the kitchen isn't bringing in the $$$ either. Why turn fans off by this crap? I can understand bootlegs or porn featuring your music but kids dancing or videos you already released? Trippin' JMO

This was going to happen sooner or later. It needs to happen. It's just too bad that Prince was at the helm when it did. He will be seen as the bully because of this.

On one hand it was just the background music for a dancing baby but where do you draw the line? what if it's a student film or a documentary (not for profit)? What's to stop them from saying "it's what happened to be on the radio at the time"? What if they post it on YouTube to solicit work?

I understand that the woman was frightened, but she shouldn't have counter sued. The one good thing about it all, is that many more will follow suit and at that point, lines will have to be drawn. The public will have to be made aware of the artist's rights.

Someone is going to make a killing on the "Royalty Free music for Every Occasion" CD.

Your arguments are ridiculous. ALL. OF. THEM. This and anything similar to it is not copyright infringement and nobody is making any money off it. Instead of harrassing the general public, Prince and the music industry he's in bed with (gee, thought you were tryin to get free) need to get real about their business model and get with the times. They only have themselves to blame for the sorry state of the industry.

It's been said before and it'll be said again: Prince is an asshole and a hypocrite.

I've loved the guy's music for years, but damn he needs to be slapped. disbelief

And in the end, Prince is only going to end up screwing himself. Remember that not-so-long ago wasteland that was the 90's, where he was the butt of every talk-show and tabloid joke? That's all going to come crashing back on him if he doesn't smarten up. Musicology was a good album, but the success it brought Prince again was a fluke, and he's doing his best to squander any of the good will he's earned these past few years.

I understand where he's coming from in all this because as the artist and creator he does have the right to have a say in what is and isn't done with his music or videos. But he's going about it completely the wrong way. Fact is, Prince, you cannot continue to piss off people like this and expect to maintain your fanbase, or the newfound respect you've gained. Unless you're trying to send yourself back down the shitter, for love of God, knock it off!

This was the last nail in the coffin for me. I know that Prince doesn't care, but he's lost a fan. I will not buy any new material from him (not that the last few albums have been worth listening to, anyways). I am only supporting his pre-JW Stuff.

Sad but true sad At this point its up to God to speak to Prince's heart and show him his faults..cause no one of this world sure can! But till then my friends I'm gonna be jammin to "I Hate u" < love the song dancing jig..and no its NOT directed to Mr.Nelson cause I love the music man..NOT his egotistical pride..(as long as they are not in my home and hurting me and mine..WERE cool) . lol.

Luckily I can seperate the man from the music and take both for what they are. I think that's the thing a person needs to understand if they're going to hop onto the purple wagon; this whole being a fan of the Brat thing is not an easy gig.

y'all are going to flame me but here goes anyway. i'm not a legal authority nor expert on copyright, however, even though this videoclip does fall into a slightly grey area imo although she may have had the right to play prince's copyrighted work in the background to a video of her child dancing, this lady crossed the line when she posted/published the clip on YouTube

prince has the legal and moral right to control the distribution of his copyrighted work.

period.

we're getting our panties in a royal twist simply because copyright violation on the internet is widespread and is being taken for granted.

in my opinion someday people will thank prince for setting this legal precedent and for drawing the line.

thank you that is all smile

Prince's acts have shown me the truth in one aspect -- that he does not deserve any of my money. Whenever he releases some music, I will download it, Whenever he has a concert -- I will download it. I will never, ever, ever purchase it. I could never give money to a person (Prince) or a music label that practiced scaring housewives because of a 29 second clip in the background of a home movie. The common sense solution is to turn off your radio, don't buy music from record labels. Oh wait, that's already happening... the music industry is dead. And so is Prince's career. All is well.

This does not even come close to falling within any "grey" area...look up "fair use"...so prince does not have any legal nor moral (the US doesnt even recognzise moral rights in copyright)..in fact Universal may have violated the law here.

What the heck is he trying to achieve with these kind of actions?

I mean, he can see youtube and sortlike sites as a way to promote himself and his music, as most other 'big' artists seem to do (REM, U2, Bjork, to name a few).

This stubborn behaviour only irritates his (shrinking) fanbase, and it certainly wont give him new fans. Younger people will probably think: Prince? That old grumpyhead that doesnt want his material to be shown on the net?

He seems to have lost any sense of 'perspective' and to be honest, it annoys the shit out of me.

I just also want to add here that if Prince becomes right in this..how many other videos on You-Tube will be taken down??

Just about every video I have seen on there from instuctional to comedy to political has SOMEONE's music playing in the backround.

So I guess You tube will be out of buisness if this becomes the foundation of artists having TOTAL rights of thier music..Even AFTER we legally purchase music from them.

People...

It is most certainly NOT Prince that is scouring YouTube and the internet. It is someone hired 2 do so, and if their only "chore" is 2 simply go after anything attached 2 him or his name, then all is game.

It's not that Prince personally made the decision 2 go after this home video in particular.

Your reading comprehension skills leave something to be desired. The following excerpt makes it fairly clear:

A well-placed source directly involved in the situation confirmed to ABC News that Prince was directly involved in seeking the takedown of Lenz's video.

"This guy scours the Internet,'' the source said of the legendary artist, who once changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol and wrote the word "Slave'" on his cheek until he won back the rights to his music from another publishing company.

"He's really intense about this stuff," the source said, adding that Lenz's video "happened to be one of many'' that artist apparently located online and demanded be taken down.

Even if he isn't directly responsible, it's being done at his request. He's an asshole.

My reading comprehension skills R highly evolved, actually.

I am simply questioning the statements made by the unnamed source. Just because this "source" said it came directly from Prince, doesn't make it confirmed fact. The whole thing is foul, no matter how it came 2 be, and the resulting press from it is indeed damaging Prince's public image, but maybe Prince simply doesn't care about public image at all.
