As it stands, he appears to be the bully. This is what people will remember. If he were this passionate about artist's rights, there are so many other ways to voice this. The way his intention translates is greed. It doesn't really help his cause. He's the artist, he's supposed to know how to deliver a message in a way that motivates people to want to help or to at least get them to understand a plight. This isn't it.

Anyway, he might not be ahead of the game. He may be the only one marching in this parade. Most don't want to join until there's actually something that can be done. They will wait to see what the realistic options are. That's hard to say, now. It's still looking as if the game will change completely. Then next gen may be the first that doesn't remember a time that people actually directly paid for music. The Ad model seems to be the one that will stick...at least now.

As far as copyright laws, they will probably be revised, in time, and they probably should be.

Still, why be remembered for being at the forefront of something like this when you can be remembered for fighting for humanitarian causes...or as simply a great artist?

I don't know how many more times this has to be said - if you use the work of any artist in any way for public airing, the person that owns the publishing for that work has the right to send a cease and desist order your way. It doesn't matter if this is the age where people can rip, zip and burp your music out of you before you create it, but the law has not changed. Want to do something? Help get the law changed, or else abide by it.

YOUTUBE IS FREE PORMOTION. Companies pay MILLIONS for promotion; so do record lables.

Either they completely made up the quotes on their own, or they talked to some shoecleaner working at Youtube about his point of view.

To cite an anonymous "source" is a common way for papers to protect their ass when making things up.And even if it was not made up in the sense of they really had some guy say these things, then it's still just that guy saying these things.It doesn't mean they're neccessarily true.

As for this Lenz woman, she's either an attention/fame seeker or just incredibly stupid.No one threatened her to "take her house", no one threatened to file a suit against her, all that happened is that a video was taken down on Youtube.Happens hundreds of times a day there, nothing uncommon really.

Agreed, Universal shouldn't be the anal idiots they are (it's a family video after all for god's sake), but again, it seems that women got all upset because of her stupidity - yeah she "thought" that someone might come after her and she was "feeling afraid" that someone might wanna take her house away (how stupid is that?!).In other words, it only happened in her head and nowhere else.

To file a lawsuit on these grounds is beyond ridiculousness.

She didn't get any letter from Universal.All she got was the usual email from Youtube when they take down a video and let you know on whos request it is taken down.As said, this happens numerous times a day to ppl on Youtube an is really nothing special.

So even if her fear was real, it's still incredibly stupid because all she needed to do was read the email, switch on her brain and get what the email says.That's all.

Given that the email didn't say anyone would prosecute her, take away her house etc and the fact that so far most other recipients of that standard Youtube email apparently did understand no one would go after them i still think this woman must be exceptionally stupid or seeking attention.

Say at a venue say for example a night club, the night club has to pay a license to play music, video etc, I believe it’s called a PPL in the UK (Public Performance License) the monies for the license is then distributed to the record companies, artists, musicians, backing singers etc those who created the recordings.
Youtube is owned by google and makes money from advertising but I was told that the artists receive none of the monies made through the advertising of the artist’s works and this is why some are angry about some of these websites and that some would like to see the likes of youtube to purchase something like the Public Performance License so that artists get paid.
