Pheromone, Letitgo and Dark are all commendable but the rest of the album is bland, repetetive and rides the tide of utter mediocrity.
Loose is as pathetic an attempt to sound relevant to a current musical fad as Jughead. I was thankful the Prince persona was dead after this release because it was evident he'd run out of ideas. Unfortunately he's risen again, found Jehovah and provided us with three of the most trite recordings of his career with Musicology, 3121 and the dreadful Planet Earth.
No hard feelings.

It's a fantastic album, except for Orgasm, which is awful. But the rest of it is great.

Granted. But a "classic album" that does not make. Especially on Prince terms. disbelief

Yeah...I wouldn't call it a "classic" either.

it definately has moments....

I remember buying it when it came out and the dude at the record store said something along the lines..."This is got to be some of his worst music"...I was like dude, shut the hell up and take my money...after I played it, I thought, damn, ol' boy was kinda right...lol

it's got some alright songs but not a classic, in my opinion...Space is the only song I listen to with any regularity...

Standing up against Musicology, 3121 & Planet Earth, Come is a better album. Against Sign o' the Times, Parade or Even Gold? No chance. About as classic as a Big Mac.

nod agree 100% about the title track.one of my personal faves.the rest of the album is decent.especially "papa","space"(love the remixes, too),"dark" and "loose".i loved "solo" the first time i heard it.cuz it was so weird.now it's just alright."pheromone" however is my least favorite prince song of all time.i don't know why but i can't stand this song and it completely screws up the album for me.second rate "classic".would have been something of a first-rate one without "pheromone" imo."come"(the song)is definitely a prince classic in my book.
For all time I am with you, you are with me.

For Come to ba a classic Prince album, it would also have to be a classic album per se. I really don't think it is. There are a few songs that I like but I don't think anyone (other than an over eager Prince fan) would consider them classics.

So, it's a 'no' from me

No, I don't think so! I believe it may have been Vanity. The credits say 'She knows' or something. I'm sure there are loads of people on here who have much more idea than me though wink

I love this album too biggrin

its alright. my main criticism would be that it really, really drags in places if you listen to it all the way through. dark and come are both too long (come especially so), and letitgo and loose are boring and monotonous. papa is good, pheremone is good, space is ok, solo is...interesting. i love race, though i know generally it's not regarded highly at all by fans. the whole album has a totally weird, paranoid, creepy vibe though which i sort of dig.

i think its a shame he had all his contractual bullshit going on at the same time as the come/gold experience/ulysses/the dawn sessions. he could have made a great double album that was both experimental and commercial if all the songs from that period were combined.

I believe the story is that he wanted to release Come and The Gold Experience simultaneously with Come being his old material and TGE being prince/new material. WB wouldn't allow that and so began "the battle for the masters/against contracts". The music from both albums were recorded in the same couple of years and the material has been flip-flopped around a lot of times before both were cut and released a year apart.

Early on, after I finally got the gist of it, TGE was my favorite album and I didn't think anything else could over take it. For some strange reason, I got Come and once I "got" it... which took me a lot less time than TGE... the two have kinda been in a rivalry as my favorite album.

I get the feeling that Come is underrated by a lot of people. The last time I listened to it, I think I was just getting off pouring over my paper, so I wasn't quite into it. That's been the 2nd time where it took me until close to the end for me to get into it.

The least I can say anymore is that this album is in my Top 6, but it might be ranked 5th or 6th within those parameters based on that last listen.

I love the experimental edge it has. The title track gets better as it goes on, Space is amazingly beautiful, Pheromone is fun, Loose! is edgy-techno which I dig. Papa is a bit sad, but good all the same. Race I think I liked less than I did because now I own the prince album and I like the record scratch better on "Continental".
Dark is one of the ultimate-growers. It took me 4EVER to really get into it and like it... but its one of the best done of the songs. Solo is a little hard to listen to at times... I've heard the album many times and it always makes me feel the same... it really gives you goosebumps.
Letitgo is my hands-down favorite, always has been. It's a lot of fun and I love the percussion he uses on it.
And as strange as it sounds, with the segues that run thru the album, Orgasm just works for me. I understand why he put that in there. Ties things together very nicely.

It's a lot tighter than TGE with all the tracks running together as one with the same vibe throughout... but TGE has a couple of tracks that just stand out a lot more as classics (...then again, Shh & Dolphin were slated for Come originaly... and yes, I still believe Gold is a classic and it knocks out nearly all of the tracks on Come 4 me).
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
