Youtube should just remove all videos with any Prince content in them and be done with PURMNG(Prince Rogers Nelson & Universal Music Group fused).....

It's not that Prince personally made the decision 2 go after this home video in particular.

Oh Please! Don't even defend that stupid twat or his henchmen on this. you can't tell me you think this is really right.....

Then I guess Prince will be suing ABC News then as well for lying on him because in the article I just read they specifically said:

A well-placed source directly involved in the situation confirmed to ABC News that Prince was directly involved in seeking the takedown of Lenz's video.

and they said this:

"This guy scours the Internet,'' the source said of the legendary artist, who once changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol and wrote the word "Slave'" on his cheek until he won back the rights to his music from another publishing company.

"He's really intense about this stuff," the source said, adding that Lenz's video "happened to be one of many'' that artist apparently located online and demanded be taken down.

He really, really, really, PERSONALLY, checks out the net for stuff like this? for real?...uh...thats some hardcore sh.t that pretty hard to defend...damn. I chose a crappy time to become a fan. I wish I was alive in the 80s...
Doesn't this sucka have anything better to do? He could, Oh, I don't...tour America or write some music, he should try it. He might have a knack for it. Its more constructive than trying to lose fans.

This was going to happen sooner or later. It needs to happen. It's just too bad that Prince was at the helm when it did. He will be seen as the bully because of this.

On one hand it was just the background music for a dancing baby but where do you draw the line? what if it's a student film or a documentary (not for profit)? What's to stop them from saying "it's what happened to be on the radio at the time"? What if they post it on YouTube to solicit work?

I understand that the woman was frightened, but she shouldn't have counter sued. The one good thing about it all, is that many more will follow suit and at that point, lines will have to be drawn. The public will have to be made aware of the artist's rights.

Someone is going to make a killing on the "Royalty Free music for Every Occasion" CD.

Your arguments are ridiculous. ALL. OF. THEM. This and anything similar to it is not copyright infringement and nobody is making any money off it. Instead of harrassing the general public, Prince and the music industry he's in bed with (gee, thought you were tryin to get free) need to get real about their business model and get with the times. They only have themselves to blame for the sorry state of the industry.

Your reading comprehension skills leave something to be desired. The following excerpt makes it fairly clear:

A well-placed source directly involved in the situation confirmed to ABC News that Prince was directly involved in seeking the takedown of Lenz's video.

Even if he isn't directly responsible, it's being done at his request. He's an asshole.

How much legal trouble could I get in if I posted numerous youtube clips simply stating what a dick Prince is? Not even directly stating the "Prince" in question, but just repeating over and over in various ways "Prince is a dick. Prince is a dick?"

It's not an argument. Just making observations about the changing times. It's not infringement...yet, but as times change, the laws will have to adjust so that it doesn't get out of control. In this case it's not infringement, but what about the next...the ones that plan to benefit by using this as a loophole? These cases will surface too.

I don't agree with the way Prince and his people have handled this. I don't think he should have even taken this stand. Not publicly, anyway. It doesn't look good. But it's his decision and he'll have to live with the scars of it. None of us do.

What I don't understand is why he doesn't have a publicist or at least a good one. He does these things that come across as wacky and/or miserly and then there's no word from his camp, and sometimes that's all it would take to clear much of it up. He knows this.

Maybe he thrives on pity parties and enjoys being victimized or something. I can't figure it out. It's almost like he's intentionally setting himself up to be disliked.

Look at this for a minute, Someone claiming to love Prince for 29 years, is taking the triviality of a home movie to this extent...How far greater, are the problems of the world, than whether or not we see a baby dance to "Let's go Crazy" or not...That is a silly, reason to become upset with Prince. Let him reign over whatever he wants to. What purpose does it serve to mingle with his dscisions.....Just decide to pout, and buy somebody else's records. Or calm down.

I kind of agree but it's the nature of many fans to feel betrayed by the person they've supported over the years. She took it personally. That's what happens when people feel they actually have relationships with celebs, when it's really only business. It's almost as if Prince wants to dispel the myth that the fan-public relationship exists outside of business. In some ways it seems he resents it. Maybe he was victimized by it too. On one hand he appears to go to great length to be loved, but knowing it's all a farce anyway, it's like he does things to make it go away. Who knows what goes thru his brain.

Outside of the perks, celebrity must suck.

First of all, if you want to address something I've said, at least have the nerve to quote me first! Secondly, I'm not pissed about just a home movie of some baby!

For your information, I'm pissed because first, he had the video forums on Housequake.com removed, then the videos on youtube, then the videos on Daily Motion, then the pictures in the Org gallery, none of these places were making any kinds of direct profits from Prince's work!

In my opinion, he's just trying to remove all traces of his former self. So what's to stop him from saying I can't have his music on my IPod? Or on my laptop? Or I can't play his music at my next party? If he keeps getting away with this foolishness, where's he gonna draw the line? Hmm?

When I don't like something, I speak on it! The problem with Prince is that he has too many folks that are afraid to tell him when he's wrong! I'm not one of them and if you don't like it, you can read another post but don't tell me to calm down because I won't calm down until he quits acting like a jackass and starts acting like the musical genius that I remember him to be!

And for your information, I know it's only business! It's a business that his ass wouldn't have succeeded in had it not been for folks like me, investing our time and money into! Yes, they were investments! Our time and money afforded him the opportunities to continue doing what he claims to love more than anything else and that's make music! So as an investor in the majority of all of his business ventures, I'll speak on anything that I feel is not right and this raiding the net foolishness is not right!

I can't believe that the woman is going to counter sue over something so stupid and trival. It's not like she can't show her home video to her friends and family off you tube, offline. The reason she ran to the media was because she saw the opportunity to get 15 minutes of fame, the same reason people like her are on you tube in the first place.

It's Prince's music, so I don't see him being in the wrong imo and it shows you just how disturbed the media are when they run stories like this or about Paris going to Jail, when there are more important issues in the world to worry about then celebrities.

If I remember correctly, you CANT download videos OFF youtube right?hmmm
If not, then it really isnt copyright infringment, IMHO. To me the copyright infringment should be that of bootleggers and the people who are downloading the music & videos off ILLEGAL sites that DONT pay for it(actual videos of the artist) and selling/reselling them to other people.

If I wanted to be really technical about this Prince, YOU violated her copyright infringment on her home video(the was a original home made movie, rather money was changed hands or not). CONSUMERS HAVE RIGHTS TOO! All that needed to be done was her to redo the video WITHOUT the song(it CAN be edited out) YOU(Prince) didnt have to pull the video!

I remember back in the day when at high school graduation tapes had soundtracks to them or as a senior class song. Ill laugh my ass off he actually went out and went back to the 80's classmen for using his music for a video montage for the senior videotape!
