I could even agree with the sentiment that nobody wins in wars, but combined with the quaint Disney/Hallmark melody it's a tough listen.

I don't understand all the PE hatred to tell you the truth. It ain't half bad. Sure, not his best effort, but the melodies aren't bad.

The problem I have with it is that it just doesn't sound tightly nit. It's like a bunch of stuff thrown together, and made to sound like an album. Also, you always expect at least one or two songs to make you go eek music

But not so on Planet earth. For the record, I get the same feeling when I listen to Batman boxed

I haven't liked a Prince album, since 1998's Crystal Ball. Planet Earth is just as bad as The Rainbow Children, Rave, Musicology, 3121, and the internet and music club releases, in my opinion.

I like PE okay. It didn't hold me for very long, but I liked it. It's just got a few of "those moments." Particularly that first line of Resolution.

Actually I like the song okay. It's got a nice little hook. And the album as a whole is more melodic than anything he's done in a looong time.

Even Future Baby Mama & Mr Goodnight are fairly melodic, and in a somewhat natural, unforced way.

My problem with it is similar to what you're saying. He seems to be making it a rock album, but a few songs just don't fit that format. I'd love a full blown rock album, but Somewhere Here on Earth spoils the mood right away.

But my biggest praise of it is that The One U Wanna C is his catchiest song since Cream. Also the production sounds smoother. There's nothing that hurts my ears like on 3121.

In the end, we know he's still capable of more, and that's disappointing.

Its not his worst but Resolution is up there with Graffiti Bright (title track) as one of his worst tracks.

The lyrics are so corny that I could hear MJ singing it when hes making the world a better place !

Yep its definately in the Strays of the world catergory.

It's about time Prince stopped floating around in fluffy bunny land, picking daisies and worrying about the human race.

Boil the f*king bunnies, chop their bollocks off. Record the event, ie bunnies squealing in boiling water and set that to an up tempo beat with a kick ass bass line.

Ooops sorry wrong forum. confused

Prince's worst albums:

Chaos & Disorder

New Power Soul

Rave

Come

Crystal Ball (only because it has too many 90's songs that are still tossaways)
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

At last, the voice of reason! Somebody has mentioned the dreaded C&D: if ever you wanted an example of contempt for the fans, releasing that album is the proof, I don't care how bad he wanted out of that record deal.

And to actually put a worse version of Zannalee on there... sad

Well, I definitely say the general conensus is that Chaos & Disorder is his "worst"... I've heard a couple of defenders, but the 90% majority has convinced me that it's not worth looking for. Even if it's part of prince's music, it's more or less "filler"... just a handful of "throw-away" songs that were written between TGE and Emancipation. And I only care about those 2 (Emancipation is coming soon to my collection).

Crystal Ball I've been considering cuz its a mix of prince material and remixes of songs from Come. Therefore its of some interest... but it doesn't seem like something I should worry about too much cuz it's not necessarily a must-have.

NewPower Soul isn't a must-have either. I only bought it because I found it. And it's the least impressive all of the albums I own.
Rave gets a lot of heat, but I still like it all the same.

But lumping Come along with these supposed "losers"... that I can't let go.
Come is one of his best albums. One of my favorite in fact. There's not a bad thing about it (and as far as "Orgasm" goes, I understand his reasoning for adding that, so I don't mind so much).

PE is one of my 6 favorite albums. Come is another one of those 6.
I feel like this has gone for enough. The two have a lot in common, I think. The lyrics are weaker in PE and the ending is weak... but it feels like each song builds up on the next in both cases and the music feels homogenous throughout.
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

My sentiments exactly.

As for "worst album" - we'll save that title for "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" or "New Power Soul".

I would put PE and 3121 in the same spot with Batman and even Controvery...ok albums that werent outstanding, but not bad either. Just good.

I cant stop getting over SIDE A of Come so I will not stop attackign that cd..although I like Come and every track on the otehr side...its the lame ass 3 songs in a row that throws me off.

Phermone, Space and Loose just killed it all. I really hated the prince days....I really really did. I cant imagine him doing alot of this prince work at all these days...(which he really doesnt anymore...which says alot)

You hit the nail on the head!

Resolution makes me cringe. I can picture my kids singing it in Sunday School. Graffiti Bridge wasn't even that bad.

Planet Earth isn't Prince's best cd, but far from his worse. I nominate Rave unto the Joy Fantastic and New Power Soul for his worst(despite very few good tracks from each)

Its far from his worst , I'd say its one of his " half-great" albums , and Prince is still one of those artists whose "worst" albums are of a quality that I still enjoy them far more than most other artists work anyway . His instrumental albums aside everything he's released officially still gets listened too regularly in my house .
