It's true, most people in America refer to Latin people from South and Central Americas and parts of the Caribbean as Latin or Latinos. It is also important to remember that Egypt is in Africa ..and let's not forget "African" (Black) is part, a "major" part of this Human Race, but all too often disrespected, belittled and denied by many. Many folks and there are SEVERAL on this very site that rather think P isn't black. They are not at ease knowing that they dig someone as MUCH as they do who happens to be black. They have a problem with that element right there. That's why it's brought up sooooo much on this site. Folks don't talk about Lenny and he REALLY is mixed. But it's not an issue to people on here about Lenny cuz their not knee deep into Lenny like they are Prince. So to ease their minds, they justify it by simply trying to convince themselves and others that p isn't black. It's gotta hurt. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. True, and it will never end...you could not have said that better, and those that can't accept it, will try to diminish his "Blackness" by bringing up his parents background and twist it all around, then to make it "acceptable" to explain to their friends and family "oh he's not really black , because..he's dated white women in the past, latin women..and yadda..yadda..yadda.."..doesn't mean a thing and doesn't mean he doesn't know who he is..some of these fans really have not been listening to the lyrics of many of his songs have they? I won't name the album...but he surely lets you know he is very much aware of who he is. He does an appearance at the "Alma Awards" and all of a sudden "oh Prince is Latin"..Bono appeared at the NAACP awards...does that make Bono Black? Robert Dinero's dated Black women all his life...does that make him "Black" or changes his skin color? Lawd how the stories in here run rampant as if if it's a curse to love a Black musician who is part of the "human race" who can play rock, soul, latin, jazz, gospel, blues, etc, among many instruments he can play, and will go down in history as one of the "greatest" musician/artist/rock guitarist of our time...and then some. The most pervasive is that he is the child of a black father and white mother, a myth later bolstered by the film Purple Rain, starring Prince himself. Prince's parents are, in fact African-American, his mother of African-American, Indian and Caucasian lineage, specifically (noted in a 1985 Rolling Stone interview with Prince). And according to an April 28, 1983 Rolling Stone article,Prince's father is of Black and Italian ancestry, and his mother "is a mixture of a bunch of things."
those early interviews/articles are full of shit I never once believed that Prince was half-Italian.Prince was just saying those things to stir up controversy and fool everybody. He wanted people to wonder whether he was black or white,if he was gay or straight, etc.Listen to the song "Controversy".It was just a game he was playing.I can't believe how many of you guys bought into it,lol. Is it me but Prince has a serious thang for the Latin culture. Irealized that Prince has always had a SERIOUS INFATUATION with latin women. The guy has been married twice to latin Women. Secondly, Prince performned atthe ALMA Awards 2007 The Alma Awards is an awards show for Latin entertainers. Prince Performed with Sheila E.She is Latin but Prince isn't.Idon't know what song he performed buthe crowd loved it from what I heard. Beyonce performed via satellite the spanish version of Irreplaceable. She is non Latin too. A couple of weeks ago I read and saw that Penelope Cruz went to one of Princes concerts. He even supposedly serenaded her. Besides that,Salma Hayek another latina actress, writer, producer, directed a video for Prince from his 3121 cd.Also Eva Longoria was seen sitting next to Prince and Dave Chapelle at a basketball game this year. She was heavily into a conversation with Prince; there r pictures to prove it. But what reallyhad me starting tothink is when I read the lyrics to MR GOOD NITE. Prince is making references to a spanish man. Inthe song, the woman is going to go upstairs and meet a spanish man.IS prince talking about himself LOLOLOLOL Just asking agree with u... true he likes latins / Appolonia Vanity 6 Sheila E MARTIKA Jill JONES TAJA savelle. Doesn't make anyone superior regardless of "mixed blood"...mixed blood didn't help Africans/African-American slaves from being lynched did it? Before and after slavery as a matter of fact. Makes me wonder why this "so-called" mixed blood wasn't acceptable when they made that "one drop" rule...or better yet...when the apartheid system was going on in South Africa...amazing how people try to all of a sudden make exceptions when it's convenient for their own mental comfort.. it's sad..for goodness sakes.enough of the bs. People....you don't have to diminish the race of a Black man by stripping down the "shades" of his skin or his "bloodline" to accept him as a human being;nor deny him the credit he deserves, for all he is capable of, to "accept" him as a human being. Regardless of the "light or dark shade of his skin"...he is who he is...and it is not a crime to show love for a "Black" man who is a music genius either....just embrace him for who he is...as he is very much a part of this human race..it's not that difficult.. However, in the USA the word latin seems to revolve around South American countries only setting aside Italy, France and Portugal. Vanity is half African American and half German, to my knowledge she is not Latin. Mani is half Italian and half Egyptian, to me she is Arabic and Latin. Now, is ethnicity such an important factor to all live together? I don't think so. I take people as they are and vice versa.

It's true, most people in America refer to Latin as South and Central Americas/Many parts of the Caribbean as well. ..and let's not forget "African" (Black) is part, a "major" part of this Human Race, but all too often disrespected, belittled and denied by many. You must be talking about the sans bushman from South Africa who are the oldest living human beings to date and it is believed they carry the features of all the human race. http://www.youtube.com/wa...V6A8oGtPc4 "The Bushmen of southern Africa are believed to be direct descendents of the first evolved Homo sapiens over 100,000 years ago.....research reveals that the genetic markers found in their DNA are unlike any others found outside of Africa" [Edited 7/21/07 7:39am]

How about that..besides like India Arie's song says "I am not my hair" apparently you can't define a person by their hair. [Edited 7/20/07 11:57am]

I look one thing but I'm something completely different, the same might be true of Prince. I'm more interested in celebrating the way explores all types of music than specifically tracing which elements might be linked to his heritage or sexual preference. I'm looking out for a purple dolphin.
