I respectfully disagree. Parade is around 50-50 for me. Emancipation has about 30 songs I like or even love and about six or so I think of as filler. Result: Emancipation wins percentage-wise as well as in absolute numbers.

I just would say that there is a certain tendency on here to overestimate their importance for Prince's music/artistry/career.

This is the point I personally don't get. How does condensing an album into a smaller number of tracks make it better? It's still the same tracks, isn't it? And the CD player has a skip button, and nowadays, you can even burn your personal favourite "best of" of any album.

I personally prefer to have quite a lot of music I can choose from rather than Prince putting 80 % of his stuff into the vault where it collects dust.

I think Parade is a bit misunderstood. It's very very solid. It certainly doesn't rock and doesn't have the ooomph the prior two had, but that is it's charm. Like sitting out in a french cafe and having a good coffee or tea and a bisquit. It's subtle. It's also soundtrack-ish. Still it's one of my favorites.

Your comment on W&L is well founded. Some People here think W&L wrote 1/2 of Prince's music and it simply isn't true. They did however, INFLUENCE him in a big way. He liked writing around them and most are pretty certian they had some influence as to where some of the music went. IMO, I think those influences were not the beats or the foreground music, but were the background washes and the slight whimsical touches.
