It's still the same tracks, isn't it? And the CD player has a skip button, and nowadays, you can even burn your personal favourite "best of" of any album. I personally prefer to have quite a lot of music I can choose from rather than Prince putting 80 % of his stuff into the vault where it collects dust. yeah, but why listen to songs you don't like just because prince did 'em? my mp3 player is FULL of all kinds of prince stuff, but the songs that i don't like, i don't include. life's too short! Who says you have to listen to them (more than just once to find out you don't like them)? But you're given the choice if you like them or not, while you don't have that choice if the stuff is hidden in the vault and only Prince and maybe the recording engineer know it exists. And who knows, if we're searching long enough, maybe we'll find someone who says "Mr. Happy saved my life".

I don't blame them for Parade not being as strong as ATWIAD or SOTT. I just would say that there is a certain tendency on here to overestimate their importance for Prince's music/artistry/career. I think Parade is a bit misunderstood. It's very very solid. It certainly doesn't rock and doesn't have the ooomph the prior two had, but that is it's charm. Like sitting out in a french cafe and having a good coffee or tea and a bisquit. It's subtle. It's also soundtrack-ish. Still it's one of my favorites. Your comment on W&L is well founded. Some People here think W&L wrote 1/2 of Prince's music and it simply isn't true. They did however, INFLUENCE him in a big way. He liked writing around them and most are pretty certian they had some influence as to where some of the music went. IMO, I think those influences were not the beats or the foreground music, but were the background washes and the slight whimsical touches. I think that's exactly my problem with Parade. I think it sounds like a young man from the US trying to make something which sounds like sitting in a french cafe and having coffee. It sounds like the work of someone who wants to come across as subtle. In other words: it sounds forced to me. Not authentic. That's just my opinion, of course. I can agree with what you wrote about W&L though. I think it's quite obvious that they helped to broaden Prince's view on music.

[Edited 6/12/07 16:57pm] My point is this: In a case like Emancipation, where I have 36 songs and only somehow dislike 6 or so, I'm glad I have the 36 songs. If Prince would've said "I'll make it a double album with 24 songs", then maybe there might be less filler, but it also means that I don't get to hear 6 tracks I really like. Now, if you give me the choice either to be forced to hit the skip button here and there or not to have 6 songs I really like in my collection, I'll go for the first option.

Papaj said: "'Planet Earth' is a fantastic album and promises to be a musical milestone for Prince," said Rob Stringer. "The Columbia label is thrilled to be working with an iconic artist like Prince in this exciting stage of his amazing career." Yawwwwwn! Like he's gonna be honest and say "actually we're disappointed with this album. Its more millstone than milestone. Prince is really just pandering to the masses with this tired, rehashed musical shyte. But, hey, we signed the contract so we're stuck with the little fucker. Personally if I were a fan I'd save my money and wait til his back catalogue is remastered and get some Prince music that doesn't make you want to kill yourself."
