New topic PrintablePrince's speech
Bono's speech What a prick he is. This is a twat who tells us all how we should contribute towards ending world poverty (as if that will ever happen) but avoids paying any tax in Ireland through dodgy deals.

Men with deep messages or food for thought along with the word of the almighty and choices people make. [Edited 3/2/07 23:18pm] [Edited 3/2/07 23:20pm] That was a nice acceptance speech. I just watched it again for the 4th or 5th time (including the live showing) and I still find his speech inspiring and it's almost funny how humble he is about the whole thing. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

ONLY a prince fanatic would find a problem with bono. I think you'll find a lot of people have a problem with Bono and his hypocritical ways. For example, in the year since it was founded, his Red campaign (licensed to Gap, Motorola, Apple etc.) has raised $18 million - but companies have spent $100 million to market it. And Bono doesn't invest his own money in Red. Apple sells a Special Edition U2 iPod. Its profits are not donated to Red. U2 made $389m from the recent Vertigo tour. Its revenue was then funnelled through companies mostly registered in Ireland and structured to minimize taxes. U2 also moved its music publishing company to the Netherlands from Ireland in June 2006, six months before Ireland ended a tax exemption on musicians' royalty income. Put your own fucking hand in your pocket, Bono.

Personally I like it when he looks like a man...especially as he gets older [Edited 3/5/07 15:27pm] Prince trying for a more masculine look always makes me think of a little girl playing dress-up in her daddy's clothes. It's cute, but it doesn't really fit somehow.

I just left an email on Tyra Banks' website hoping she can get Prince on her show. I tried to spot Tyra in the audience when Prince came out, but she must've been backstage because she was sitting next to Benny Medina.I sure would love to see him on her show.

Hey you know, that's a great idea. We should all start emailing Tyra to get Prince on her show. If she gets enough requests, who knows, maybe she will grant it for us. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I love me some Prince, but is there true action behind his words? The music biz is incredibly shady with a horrible reputation for exploiting artist. The lawyers and accountants he speaks of most certainly worked for the labels and were quite active in costing various artist millions of dollars. His music and talent made him rich NOT record compaines, lawyers or managers.

The content of Prince's speech, in its entirety, is as follows:
"I just want to give you some food for thought. I hope I don’t take too much time. Imagine holding the planet earth in the palm of your hand, with no regard to your place of birth, or your claim to any land. The only thing between is now the truth we all understand, if planet earth was in the palm of our hand. Fifty years from now, what they all say about us here. Did we care for the water and the fragile atmosphere? There’s only two kinds of people and the difference they make; the ones that give and the ones that take. Ladies and gentlemen, uh, last week Tavis Smiley introduced me to some really amazing jazz musicians and as much as they were excited to meet me, I was more excited to meet them. Mainly because I wanted to give them something that they would cherish forever. All that I could give them was the stage in which I perform on. And I would just challenge the phone companies and the new digital providers to allow us to be the gatekeepers to steward the new jazz renaissance, hip hop and soul music in the twenty-first century rather than accountants and lawyers who ruined the music industry this first time around. I just wanted to give you that food and hope I didn’t take up too much of your time. Thank you so much for this award." One of the Jazz musicians he was referring to is 23 year old Grammy nominee, Christian Scott who performed with him at 3121. I hope he does more work with this guy. If you don't listen to Jazz, you should listen to this guy. He'll change your mind. Prince seems to love his music. Check out his myspace page where he has some music samples.
