New topic PrintableI have to ask these questions. Why is it that if anyone here sees things on Prince's side, they must be labeled a "Purple Kool-Aid Drinker"? Why would it be wrong to be objective over the whole thing or even defend Prince if that's what happens? It's alright to dog someone here who supports Prince but if anyone challenges someone who doesn't see Prince's side, you can call them every kind of crazy. Why is agreeing to disagree so damn tough here?
What gets me is the fact that people are still shocked by this behavior of Prince's. I said it earlier in the post, this has been happening for almost 10 years now and if you haven't realized that, then you are going to keep on being hurt. I wish Prince woldn't keep on doing this kind of thing BUT we know he does this so why be shocked? Hell I'm not even mad, it's what it is but if you think Prince has done you wrong, you need to go and go NOW cause this is not going to end anytime soon. There is no point in being mad, either accept it or go. Arguing isn't going to change this man. Litigation might but even with that, he'll still go after sites that handle his image in a way he won't like. Uptown did it and won but then he went after HQ not too long afterwards. Maybe I'm just numb to it but like I said earlier, it is what it is, right or wrong and for me, I'm tring to find the balance in all of this. [Edited 1/1/07 7:25am] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

If you have never looked at any photos in their gallery or any other gallery then okay I believe he is not taking a dump you specifically. You're doing it now. You ever been to history class? You ever discussed Mussolini? You ever read a book about a murderer? Or listened to anything by the Sex Pistols? What you're saying is completely unrealistic. What you do with your life is up to you, but I can't help but think, do you not having anything better to do but to devote time on a man you claim is abusive to his you?? We all know that in reality a lot of celebrities we know turn out to be not so nice people, but on top of that a musician who also you claim does not care about fans at all? We can agree to disagree on the subject but I will always remain perplexed on this hold Prince has on people who hate him and they believe does not care about them as fans.
[Edited 12/31/06 12:42pm] How does being interested in a person who is a fascinating bitch and talking about that to other people who think so also mean that I have nothing better to do with my life? I'm going leave your little personal jab at me alone since you have no idea who I am and know nothing about my life. You know what I also find fascinating is fans who are so high on that purple kool-aid that Prince could walk on stage and literally piss on them and they would call it the best performance art they've ever seen. First of all, I've been to three Prince concerts, The Tamar show in March and opening weekend in Vegas, which were kick ass performance and you can check the concert reviews of others who shared my view. They were good performances. Second of all, you're still missing my point, if a musician pissed on me like you said, who continues to do things that makes me angry, and I BELIEVE that he does not care about his fans or shits on his fans' not only would I not buy his stuff anymore I would not even bother to visit fansites built in his name, especially if that musician made me angry year after year after year. My time is too precious to waste on someone I consider an ass and who I believe can't stand me as a fan. But it seems that people who hate Prince keep coming back for more in various ways.. Like I said, what you do with your time is your business, but it doesn't make sense to me, and we can disagree with that. [Edited 1/1/07 7:41am]

Rather than listen to legit discourse, you question the existence and participation of other members of this site who have differing viewpoints than you have.... If you followed Jim Jones.....you'd have swallowed the Kool aid. Jim Jones huh? That's funny coming from someone who was planning a VIP trip to go see Prince in Vegas, someone who you consider an ass and who thinks he probably hates does not give a fuck about you as a fan. and about your Jim Jones comment, back in '91 I stop listening to Prince, and removed myself from Prince world for 13 years. Unlike some of you, I actually had the ovaries to up and leave and devote my time elsewhere, and came back after Musicology, only because I missed his music and obviously don't share this angry sentiment that many of you do. So no I don't drink anybody's Koolaid, especially a musician that would make me angry year after year, then again, if he did, I wouldn't be here. [Edited 1/1/07 10:20am]

I'm talking about folks who get angry year after year, despises Prince and believes he does not like them as fans or does not care about them as a fan. You would not catch me at this person's concerts or spending so much time on fansites. That's just me. [Edited 1/1/07 7:56am]

Lawyers aren't scared of other lawyers. Matt might be nice with his but that won't stop Prince's lawyers from suing him if they have the chance. And the "fair use" aspects of it aren't so cut and dried if you're using depictions of video and movie footage as opposed to photos taken by the user. (btw, the way you stop something like this is to notice Prince's deposition once he sues you. IIRC that's what Uptown did.) Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

As far as the legalities are concerned, you damn well do have some rights to control the use of your likeness. It may be hamhanded of Prince, who's been known historically to demonstrate contempt for those who adore him, to go this route. It may be wrong but it is his right. i don't think its his right...its pretty obvious that there online sites (unless charging a fee) fall under "fair-use"...i've often wondered if the reason prince's lawyers *dont* go after the org is because they know matt is a lawyer. Well, that could be a factor, but Prince's resources likely outstrip those of this site. Unless Matt HAS "got it like that" (sic). My point is, the questions of fair use on this site are far from certain one way or the other. At least to this orger. And resources may not necessarily be as important as strategy. See Prince v. Uptown. Prince jumped on Uptown, Uptown responded, noticed Prince's deposition, and it was over because Prince is afraid of "the record" and would have made a horrible deponent. IIRC. They've posted many videos, threads and posts talking about how many of them don't believe in God and have show undeniable disrespect for Prince and his religion, and it suddenly hit me as he would say "like a fist on a wall" that Prince's people would want no affiliation with Godless heathens that blatantly mock Prince and God. He's very serious about that!

Many more people here diss Prince than Housequake, Princefams, etc. And we also have people who are agnostic, atheist, whatever so what you are saying doesn't hold water. but theres soo soo soo much precedence... I do not know of what happened all the other times either. I have never seen one of the cease and desist letters for myself. All and all, I personally would ask someone if I could use their likeness, just like I do with friends before I post a pic to the Org. People know how protective Prince is of his image but yet scream "what did I do" or play victim when he asked them to stop. For all we know, people in the past could have got warnings to stop and when they didn't, they were threatened with a lawsuit. If anyone has any links to previous letters or written orders, I would love to se them for myself. I have zero prblem calling people out when I feel they are wrong.
