Prince is a prick.

I think in this day an age its getting scary when the internet cannot be used for people/fans who want to discuss/show a person who they feel has influenced them enough to put fingers to a keyboard and express themselves enough - just to get it thrown back into their face.....

I'd like to see copies of what exactly was sent to the princefams folks... they seem like good people, obviously hoping to promote Prince and his endeavors via their site, and running ANY fansite is a ton of fairly thankless work. It's tricky, though, if there was something in particular (copyright offenses for example) that are within Prince's right to argue about, that should be respected.

Now, generally speaking, I think he's dead wrong from a practical, business, marketing, and even moral standpoint to attack fans and sites they put blood, sweat, tears, and money into maintianing, as he is likely the greatest benefactor of those efforts and expenditures, but we can't ignore legitimate legal requests. Even challenging illegitimate ones isn't always successful, if Prince is willing to pay big bucks to get "better" lawyers (e.x., the Uptown case).

If I understand correctly (and I'm not sure I do), the princefams folks were previously responsible for putting some video material Prince arguably owned copyright to, on YouTube and linking to it from their site--and were asked to remove it, and did comply with the request. I'm not sure the nature of this subsequent request but as I said, I'd like to know more details.

No matter what, it's never boring in Prince-fan-land, especially if you try to "help" the community. Let's see what happens...

I love P. I'll always buy his music and come see the show when he's in town. But this is another stupid move. He seems almost hell bent on self-destructing his career if this is the way that he continuosly treats his fans.

He might be able to play a bass guitar like nobody else, but his business sense is waaaaay off.

I've been readin' about these problems over the last days and I must confess that I don't quite understand what's happening. The people that are complaining are a little vague! Can somebody publish a mail, letter or whatsoever that demands that those pics are taking off these sites?

Who is forcing them to do it? Prince? His management? A third party? I can hardly believe that you can not place an albumcover on a site.

Now what's happening is that a lot of people are placing copyrighted pics and videos (YouTube and others) without the permission of the artist himself or his company. Maybe some of them want to put an end on all this since they consider that as illegal downloading? I know that Don Cornelius' company is axing all Soul Train vids on YouTube right now because of the same reason.

Maybe that is the reason behind all this? Can somebody post more (legal) details on this subject?

Maybe we should know all the facts before we judge on somebody.

Second, there was a person on this site that used my picture without my permission. That was not cool and I am not understanding why we want something from a person that we would not want someone to do to us. I do not care that he is a public figure, if he asks, why not comply with that? Next, I will never understand in twelve lifetimes why people say really fucked up things about Prince here and abroad and keep coming back for more. And lastly, why do people keep acting brand new? Is there anyone left in Prince fanworld that doesn't know how he feels about unauthorized use of his image or videos?
