I can see your point. And yes, Prince is very very very gay. But he's a top notch performer and known for making people talk about his performances for days and days afterwords. If he does it right he walk out of this guaranteeing his next album would be a hit album. I mean, Michael Jackson is the biggest queen of them all and his performance was well received. heheh...yeah that was actually a pretty funny spot. Personally, good to see the humor in there...i think that humor approach is a FAR better marketing direction to take than the 'serious' type of marketing that they sometimes do...you know the type i'm talkin about, they coulda gone down the road of: "THE artist of our era. THE performance of a lifetime. Prince will bring the world his...blabla blablabla..."
you know? glad they didn't do that. The funyy-ness of this spot actually makes me (old school Prince fan) excited to see it now. To this point my jaded self was actually indifferent to his performance, but after laughing out loud at the trailer, now i'm like ...hey this COULD end up being a fun loose performance... I say, go with the 'musician' Prince as upposed to the 'pop star' Prince...just blaze on the guitar, man! I know he can't seem to help himself from giving into to his 'pop star' tendancies, but damn it would be cool to see him do more of a 'musician' styled performance again. One of the best 'mainstream TV' Prince performances in my mind was the time he came out in some jeans and did 'Sign O The Times' and i think "The Cross' on some awards show and just BLAZED on the guitar...THAT stands out for me way above most of the other 'pop star' performances. But we'll see...I'm guessing that with the recent death of one of his (and our) obvious inspirations (James Brown) that he does some sort of JB tribute in there which i think would be great. we'll see what happens... Didn't he perform the SuperBowl before back in the 90's? I think it was around the Diamonds & Pearls era...it was either the SuperBowl or the NFC Championship or somethin'? anyway, funny spot...thanks for the link... . [Edited 1/6/07 4:47am] | |
