why is PRINCE considered the greatest of all time ? Why is it that Prince is considered the greatest when he not even the best in Minneapolis?
Every real musician knows JAM & LEWIS run minneapolis...I was told that if you ask most local musicians who is the musician you would most like to work with and over 86% said JAM & LEWIS NOT PRINCE! for one,Prince started in 1978 jam and lewis 84 but to date they have 36 more top ten R&b and pop hits than PRINCE and he had a six year head start! and to boot they have released over 200 more songs than PRince meaning they are more prolific don't you think JAM AND LEWIS should be worshiped more than SHORTY PIPPEN? First of all, who gives a crap about "hits". Second of all, you don't know how much unreleased stuff Prince has so you can't really say J&L were more prolific... oh and they are two cats and Prince is just one It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Jam and Lewis are behind the scenes remember. They aren't singing; others sing for them. Prince writes his own material, puts music to it, and sings it. Not to mention doing the same as Jam and Lewis -- writing songs for others. Plus, I don't know of anyone who remakes any of Jam and Lewis' material as much as Prince's ... and you have to ask why Prince is considered the greatest of all time?

It's according to what your personal definition of the word "great" is. Does your definition mean talentwise or does it mean the ability to get a hit. We all know it takes no talent to get a hit these days. Just look at all the no talent shit hop that has made it onto the charts these days by stealing the talented older artists' music and making it the background for their songs.
I define greatness as talent and Jam and Lewis have talent (too bad they don't use it any more) and they themselves have said that when they were taking lessons to learn to play different instruments, Prince could just pick the instrument up and play it with no lessons whatsoever. Andy is a four letter word.

ccollin88-- Do yourself a favor. Put down the purple hatorade, pick up the phone, and call up Jimmy and Terry. Then, ask them who the greatest of all time is. They'll say "Prince". They've said it many times before in various interviews. Look it up.
Jimmy and Terry are talented for sure, but you seem like the kind of person who will desperately try to convince people that Jermaine Jackson is more talented than Michael just because you want to be "different". We get it, you don't think Prince is all that. Again, it just seems like you are trying to start arguments rather than have real conversations. I am all for hearing your point of view, but you come off as very confrontational in your writing. There is a difference between calling things the way you see them and flamebaiting. PS. Jaime Foxx IS the new king of R&B. Just like Eddie Murphy was in 1985. Party all the time baby. [Edited 7/20/06 8:11am] "New Power slide...."

It doesn't matter how much he practiced, he still needed no lessons. He learned it on his own. As far as sports goes, music was much better when it was made by people who didn't play sports. Their craft was music and they knew how to make it. Look at all the people making so-called music today (mama's big little boys with their cute little sports jerseys on). They can't play a lick of music and rely on samples for a hit. Music as a whole suffers because of it. Andy is a four letter word.

I already came up with that theory on the "retirement" thread. http://www.prince.org/msg/7/195850 Maybe Bart started having some serious drug issues... Anyway, Bart normally hangs out in the P&R forum these days. He more or less avoids this forum since he screw up on Prince's record sales. Could be a reason for an alter ego account...
