Why is it that Prince is considered the greatest when he not even the best in Minneapolis?

Every real musician knows JAM & LEWIS run minneapolis...I was told that if you ask most local musicians who is the musician you would most like to work with and over 86% said JAM & LEWIS NOT PRINCE!
for one,Prince started in 1978 jam and lewis 84 but to date they have 36 more top ten R&b and pop hits than PRINCE and he had a six year head start! and to boot they have released over 200 more songs than PRince meaning they are more prolific

don't you think JAM AND LEWIS should be worshiped more than SHORTY PIPPEN?

Last time I checked there has not been a Jam/Lewis album.
They write/produce other acts.
P does it all.
Music is more than a hit record. Get a life.

It's according to what your personal definition of the word "great" is. Does your definition mean talentwise or does it mean the ability to get a hit. We all know it takes no talent to get a hit these days. Just look at all the no talent shit hop that has made it onto the charts these days by stealing the talented older artists' music and making it the background for their songs.

I define greatness as talent and Jam and Lewis have talent (too bad they don't use it any more) and they themselves have said that when they were taking lessons to learn to play different instruments, Prince could just pick the instrument up and play it with no lessons whatsoever.

bullshit....yALL KILL ME WITH THIS PRINCE PICKS UP AN INSTRUMENT AND PLAYS IT SHIT.....THE DUDE PRACTICED HIS ASS OFF AS A TEEN BECAUSE HE WAS 4"9' TALL AND HE COULDNT PLAY SPORTS....SO WHAT DO MOST DWEEBS WHO CANT PLAY SPORTS DO.....PLAY MUSIC!

how tall r u eek
and what do u do 4 a living may i ask? u seem 2 spend a lot of time here complaining about talent less Prince. Why r u so angry with him? eek

I love this.

I was told that if you ask most local musicians who is the musician you would most like to work with and over 86% said JAM AND LEWIS NOT PRINCE!

1. This sounds like a very scientific survey. "I was told" and "over 86%". Huh?

2. Your thread is more about who should be worshipped, not who is the better musician.

3. You're comparing one musician, Prince, to two musicians, Jam and Lewis. Doesn't make a bit of sense.

4. Maybe this would make some measurable amount of sense if your thread was about who musicians would rather collaborate with.

It's time for this mess to be called out. ccollin88, why do you ALWAYS start these negative threads on Prince? I don't get the sense that this is coming from a funny place, you come off as bitter. Now Prince is no angel by any means but you are on a site that's based on him and his music and it's clear you aren't feeling him right now and it's your right to feel this way. I'm not asking you to leave, though it would be nice, but you never really have a real point to make in your threads. The way things are going, this thread will be just like your "Should Prince Retire" thread, locked up. So why all this hate? Plus what makes you think these threads are going to make him "change" his music? If you think this will even get to Prince, then you suffer from a big case of delusions of grandeur and it's time for you to go to the doctor real soon. nuts

I think you need to start showing the people on here a bit more respect before you start posting threads on here expecting us to answer them - Youre rude and offensive and I dont know what the hell you are doing on this site when you clearly dont like Prince and all he stands for
but what does my opinion matter eh? Im from the Uk so my opinion doesnt matter as you so nicely put it in a past thread - which has since been locked - BTW
I hope this one gets locked as well

Pointless post, commerce and art don't easily mix and Prince was the one who mainly created and marketed the Minneapolis sound, Jam always gives full credit to him for this and for their break. You don't compare genius with pop. Of course people would prefer to work with Jam and Lewis, they are background people.

You would lose the debate because you totally missed the point. Prince fans are very diverse and the younger fans have identified themselves several times on this website. Besides, I've seen quite of few of them myself.

However, the trend now, with the youth is hip hop, the 50 Cent, Britney Rhianna type music.

That does not mean that Prince does not have any young fans.

There's nothing wrong with celebrating when something nice happens. He happened to go #1, and that was nice so naturally as fans we're going to be happy for him.

Prince sells CDs because that is his line of business.
