Perhaps bearing relevance to the title of the album from which this song is taken (3121), the "clean version" (the album version allegedly runs for longer and features explicit lyrics) of the track runs for 3:12 minutes.

You have to ask, does this photo capture the essence of Prince? And I would have to say, no. What does Prince hugging a wall say about his music? It would have been far better to have a similar pose but with a background looking out on something, like a garden or the sea, it would have given it a mysterious quality. But an orange wall? Please...

Seems ok to me, the cover will help sales in some way but if the album is promoted correctly and the singles chosen well, with some good timing and luck the music will sell the album, nothing else.

One thing I'm surprised no one mentioned, the picture kinda links to the scene in the TAC video where Prince is touching the wall while the picture is projecting onto it. Different look of course, but it was the first thing that came to mind for me anyway

I hope the album is not too commercial (according to reports, the title song resembles Rainbow Children... a good thing!), and I hope it's somewhat more dark and lustier than Musicology. I've read in reviews that this is the case... so... I AM EXCITED!

Seems like the last several years, Prince has avoided hiring a professional photographer. Most of the pics of Prince look a bit amateurish, like some PaisleyPark employee running around with a digital camera or something.

orange is very good for seasonal affective disorder, you know. he could just be taking in a little bit of color therapy.

*cyniscism mode* - oh yeah, this 'extended' version that 'exists' that no-ones heard, that noone really knows it exists (beyond the fact that prince probably has 20 minute jams of all his songs) and the 'explicit' lyrics noone read, heard or knows about, apart from someone, who could be anyone in the entire world, has posted on wikipedia that the extended version has 'explicit lyrics'. obviously they don't know them, its just what they 'know', from a 'source'.

this is the thing with being a prince fan, rumours get started, then within weeks, months or even a year, it suddenly becomes a fact.

the only thing we "know" about different version of black sweat (on the back of the promo is says album edit, so its not a 'single edit) is on the 12" vinyl its official running time is 3:30 - serpan99 has this, and i've asked the difference between the two but didn't get an answer.

as for the cover art, i like it, its different. not sure what it says about the album contents though, but its a good photo. it reminds of something Tangerine17 said about seeing a 3121 photo of a prince in a semi-shadow and it might be the cover but he hoped it wasn't - i think this might be it so it looks like this pic might have been chosen a few weeks ago.
