Brit Awards - Discuss Prince's impending appearance here

[Discuss Prince's impending Brit Awards appearance, news etc here. All other threads will be locked* and redirected here]

So, it's finally been confirmed that Prince will be appearing at the 2006 Brit Awards in London on Wednesday 15th February.

Here's what we know - on Sunday afternoon, due to pressure on NPGMC to comment, PP6 posted the following, (somewhat coy) message:

U know, he can't really do a "surprise per4mance" if we start posting everything b4hand. When u r an official website, u have 2 listen 2 what in4mation the artist wants 2 be released and when. Feel free 2 post what u've heard an articles from here and there. But if ur looking 4 Prince 2 say "Yes, eye am doing a surprise per4mance" - it's not very likely.

Later that day, drummer Cora Coleman-Dunham posted the following on her website:

Saturday Night Live and some... - February 12, 2006
So hello everyone!!! It has been a little busy so I have not been able to keep you posted on the latest, my apologies.

So we had a great time with Prince and Tamar on Saturday Night Live last weekend. NY wasn't too cold!

Today we are leaving for the UK to play the Grammy Brits! Wendy and Lisa and my girl Sheila E are going to rock it with us!

More to come when we return!!

The only other gossip currently doing the rounds is that Prince may perform three songs (which would be quite odd considering that's something only the closing headline act normally get airtime to do - which this year is Paul Weller who is receiving the Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award.) It is also worth noting that Prince is not featured on the Brits homepage as a featured performer - yet note Cora's comment above. So either a medley or a show opener maybe? "...curiouser and curiouser!" exclaimed Alice. As for an 'aftershow' - who knows, anything can happen, and usually does with our funky little man...

For those outside of the UK, The 2006 Brit Awards are being televised at different times around the world.
You can find times and channels for your area HERE.

Alternatively, why not listen in live? music Worldwide radio broadcast info can be found HERE.

When will the show air in the US? I remember when he was on there in '97 (performing Emancipation) it wasn't live in the US. I believed it aired a few days later. Any ideas on the day, time or network?

Not been looking forward to this year's Brits ever since I heard an employer got nominated since I hate sitting through these shitty award shows just in "support" of (former) employers, but this one could become quite nice for a change (read: not a waste of time...)
Prince, Wendy, Lisa & Sheila E. has a nice ring to it...

if he's the surprise opening act or something, chances are he will
not be arriving 'cross the red carpet though.

yeah, unless they decide to have Prince close the show than we still have
to sit through hours of boring media machine fodder and inside backslaps.

I reckon Weller's going to end the show with his Lifetime Achievement performance, so it makes sense for Prince to open.

Ah well, I'll know soon enough when he'll play, if he ends the show I'll be outside watching people and be inside in time for his performance...

Word is he's opening, so that's perfect, see Prince, wait for the employers 2 minute spot then split and go party, hopefully an aftershow or something...

As mentioned in my main post, Prince will not close The Brits, that much is certain. Only recipients of the Outstanding Contribution to British Music award ever get to do that, and this year it's Paul Weller.

If Prince is doing three songs as rumoured, then the opening act slot seems to be the only way he'd be able to do it without having to do a medley.

nevs, I'll probably be in town, hope to catch up with ya...
