Bad example. I think Europeans in general "get" Prince more than mainstream America.

That's not a stretch for us in Europe...
Europeans are catered a wide range of music styles in different languages (focus on music) the US on the other hand are catered products (focus on the package)

I was soooo excited to hear that Antony and the Johnsons are up for an award. Over here nobody has heard about him. Antony is British and he moved to a town right next to mine. My friends new him. I actually got to meet him in San Francisco a couple of years ago. INCREDIBLE.

His music would just never appeal to many Americans. I've been lucky to surround myself with people that love many types of music.

Actually it was 13 nights at Wembley Arena which I think may still be a record.
The fact of the matter is that even if the younger Brits don't know enoung of him you'll find that the musicians attnding will certainly acknowledge him. Those of you that remember the 96 performance when he made a really bad choice to sing Emancipation (when he should have sung something more memorable and funky from that album or even an old hit) there wher clips of Paul Young ( a 80's singer) singing along to as well as numerous others stars.

I'm not telling Prince what he should or should not do but he sometimes likes to make a point rather than giving the fans what they want or what he needs to do to ensure that he once again becomes popular and his music is recognised for what it is.....Here's hoping that's he learn't from the Grammy, RR Hall of Fame and SNL performances!!

When will the show air in the US? I remember when he was on there in '97 (performing Emancipation) it wasn't live in the US. I believed it aired a few days later. Any ideas on the day, time or network?

Prints was talking about Michael Jackson - who hasn't played Wembley Arena since the seventies with his brothers. If you're discussing Prince however, well... you're still wrong - it wasn't 13 nights, it was 16. On the British leg of 1990's Nude tour Prince played to over 300,000 people.

nope i'm sure I read a few years back that another band had broken the record ,
I can't recall whom at the minute but someone definitely did as in the same article they mentioned that it was previously held by Prince for the Nude tour.

Believe it or not I think it was Cliff Richard.

And I thought Prince did 18 nights at Wembley Arena in 1990.

As mentioned in my main post, Prince will not close The Brits, that much is certain. Only recipients of the Outstanding Contribution to British Music award ever get to do that, and this year it's Paul Weller.

If Prince is doing three songs as rumoured, then the opening act slot seems to be the only way he'd be able to do it without having to do a medley.

nevs, I'll probably be in town, hope to catch up with ya...

What makes you think he won't do a medley? In fact, when was the last time he didn't play a medley on an awards show?

- I hope he doesn´t do any medley...medleys usually suck.

lol Frakkin hell - someones got their tits in a knot! Who really gives a crap? Details details, at that stage of the game it's anyone's guess.

Medley, or no medley, I care not - he could stand there with a bucket on his head juggling fish and whistling the national anthem out his ass for I care. As long as he shows up - that's enough to keep me contented.

I've just watched the breakfast news where they were talking about the Brit Awards which is filmed this evening - AND STILL NO MENTION OF PRINCE PERFORMING! They did mention Kanye West performing and said it would likely be the show-stealer because of the huge numbers of dancers on stage.

Assuming the Brit organisers got Prince in to boost ratings, well, people are hardly likely to tune in if NO ONE KNOWS HE'S PERFORMING! All seems very bizarre to have a secret performance, if indeed it is still going ahead.

The Brits is one of the few music awards i actually watch these days because it is always relatively unpredictable, and geared towards a more rock n roll audience, (hence the reason i think "fury" will go down a storm". Bands like the kaiser chiefs, cold play and that god-awful James Blunt will look crap in comparison to Prince. Crazy shit always goes down at the brits, remember when Jarvis Cocker leaped on stage when wacko was singing and waggled his ass at him.

I dont expect Prince to have an entirely new wave of appreciation from a younger audience after this, but mark my words, he will put alot of the contemporary shit bands to shame,

My feelings exactly. Prince will own.

I've got a bad feeling we'll only get to see one song. I hope and pray it's Fury, even if that means we don't get to see W&L.

Prince is playing three tracks - and he's certainly not opening - as the shitty Kaiser Chiefs are, with I Predict A Riot.

So its likely to be a mid-show set.

I'm quite concerned that his set may even be cut for TV on Thursday, wouldn't surprise me at all, knowing how poorly the Brits is produced and slashed for TV.
