I've got visitors coming over from the Uk in a couple of weeks... I don't want anything from duty free... I just want a video tape and a certain performance on it.

Perhaps Paul Weller will tram up with Prince and The Revolution to play some old Style Council numbers spliced up with bits of funky guitar.

Just a thought.

Perhaps I shouldn't join the NPGMC after all

Just a brief update between about 4,000 phone calls today.

Prince has yet to decide if he'll be playing tomorrow night after the brits but will hopefully make a decision later today.

Sorry to not give any firm news but the record company are waiting on the little fella himself right now.

You can listen to it live here:

I really don't know... should I tune in? Or rather wait for the TV footage. Would be more exciting, I guess. neutral

I think they should alternate which countries capital hosts The Brits.
The are called The Brits after all.

Its Edinburghs' turn this year
hmph!

They are called The Brits beacuse they were sponsored by the Brittania Music Club, the name stuck even after sponsorship changed to Mastercard.

Just been listening to Radio 1, according to them Prince will be playing, and will be rehearsing all day tomorrow on a closed set. The Kaiser Chiefs were also on and said they were opening the show...watch this space

P.S. Wow, this is great news! I'm sure I'll be able to see the performance on a certain website, prob within minutes of it airing, so I won't miss a thing (unless, of course, not all of his performance is televised! eek )

When will the show air in the US? I remember when he was on there in '97 (performing Emancipation) it wasn't live in the US. I believed it aired a few days later. Any ideas on the day, time or network?

According to the Brit Awards site, it's supposed to air on BBC America on April 15th. omfg What's the point of airing the show two months afterward?

Anyway, the original broacast is being shown on ITV in the UK. Had this actually been airing on BBC, it would probably have been rebroadcast on BBC America the following weekend or a week later.

Its been awhile but I remember ABC carring the show both times late at night. confused

Does anyone really think that 95% of the British public will have a bloody clue as to who Wendy, Lisa and Sheila E are? If he gets up there with them it'll be damn stupid. Lets face facts - the majority of the kids watching today won't even know who Prince is!!! eek

BBC RADIO 1 WEBSITE NEWS:
Brits rehearsals underway
Despite rumours in the papers, Prince WILL be performing at the Brits and he's rehearsing all day tomorrow. Chris Martin called in on Moyles today on his way to rehearsals and let this slip: "Our next record is going to be a lot better and I know because it's written."

As mentioned in my main post, Prince will not close The Brits, that much is certain. Only recipients of the Outstanding Contribution to British Music award ever get to do that, and this year it's Paul Weller.

If Prince is doing three songs as rumoured, then the opening act slot seems to be the only way he'd be able to do it without having to do a medley.

nevs, I'll probably be in town, hope to catch up with ya...

What makes you think he won't do a medley? In fact, when was the last time he didn't play a medley on an awards show?

Prince has won BRITs 6 times - I believe they will remember him! no-one has won best international male for 6 times - even not MJ, who has sold very well in UK and certainly has been popular in UK (remember 7 sold out Wembley shows)

You underestimate the Brits. They were there for Prince when most of mainstream America wasn't. Why do you think he didn't tour with Sign O The Times here in the states?

Yes. i remember that he won many times in the 90`s.
And he had so many sold out shows in the uk, especially
in London.
I think earls court like 10 times or so ??
I´ve been 2 times in the uk for Prince shows:
Act 2 in wembley stadium 1993 and the gold experience tour 95.
That was fantastic!!!
So the uk loves Prince...smile

Bad example. I think Europeans in general "get" Prince more than mainstream America.

I agreed. UK folks I encountered have broader taste of music than americans. Sad but true. I can talk to them about new jack and funk era that I found impossible to do with some folks here. I also noticed that they are the ones who have websites dedicated to rare funk and new jack swing so I give them props. I have yet to find a new jack and rare funk site owed by American. And I thought that Lisa and Wendy had a decent following in UK?
so therefore you all deserved a special treat as Prince suppose to perform at the Brits Awards. I am feeling jealous a bit that Prince isn't going to perform here in the states. biggrin
