Am I the only one who got the feeling he was trying to remake this song and video in one go...and failed?

I actually really enjoy the song. Better than anything off Musicology.
And the video is hilarious, good job Prince

No he didn't fail because he did it better and managed to look human in the process. What a concept

Not really. If Prince was dancing in the video, then maybe. This looks more like the Drop it like it's hot video. [Edited 2/2/06 14:36pm]

You can't have a song that funky and not bust a single move. Damn, Prince is too cool. Too Cool AWWWWW MAN!!!! This has got me smiling like a crazy muther fucker!!! Haven't had time to digest the song. seems like a funky little number that would go down well if a dj had the guts to play it. The video's great. His facial expressions are 'Kiss'. Fabulous!!!! "London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"
"YEAH!!!" "Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

You can't have a song that funky and not bust a single move. His hip must hurt=no dancing. In 1999 he was still busting splits, no problem, even after 20 years of heels. What happened in six years that he can't even move in a video? Check this song out at:

I'm in the UK - wasn't able to view it with Firefox, but could on Internet Explorer once I temporarily allowed pop ups - check it out on the VH-1 link, MTV Overdrive won't play in the UK. Prince looks as fine as ever and is showing his humourous side, but when he's telling me that he's working up a black sweat, I expect to see him dancing up a storm, or at least moving to the beat, not just standing there drinking tea. Maybe I'm missing the subtlety of the lyrics... Also, why does he keep touching his nose? It makes him look like he's got a drug habit! Max ...I go 2 the max...I'm not afraid...I wanna dance...

It's choppy the first time you play it.....made me mad too. But
play it again, and it won't be. Atleast it wasn't for me. lspear76 said: it's up on mtv.com, but it's CHOOOOPPPPPy. Nice video from what I can see, though.

Not really. If Prince was dancing in the video, then maybe. This looks more like the Drop it like it's hot video. [Edited 2/2/06 14:36pm] But they're both black and white (sort of), both have a minimalistic background, both have only the artist plus a black female model...plus both songs have a minimalistic funk vibe with the same style of beat...if I remember correctly.

But Black Sweat is the best thing i've heard from Prince in a long time so i'm satisfied.

I don't think they will, because it was one of the PP's that told me/us
that it was on mtv.com I think they probably will MTV for taking away the scoop. It's on MTV.com now folks! So you won't have to visit
| |

Ok I see he is going in that Pharell direction, which is cool. The song is really cool. LOVE the video. But at the same time I know Prince is so much more talented than this song.
But I like it though. I think it will do better that Te Amo Corazon expecialy with the MTV crowd. And OMG how sexy did my honey Prince look?

I feel the opposite. This could be a HIT, it's radioable. As long
as it is marketed right. GustavoRibas said:
Just saw the video at MTV...the video is great...but it has the same problem of ´Musicology´ IMHO...there isn´t a catchy melody (and the chorus reminds me a lot of The Work pt1). The song has no bass...it´s only a beat...songs like Kiss and When Doves Cry didn´t have bass also, but the melody was strong...I am afraid this one won´t be a hit also...

Yeah but the themes are entirely different. MJ and Naomi had this overtly sexual back and forth going on with their performance. With MJ really going for a more masculine role than he'd done in the past (thus the unfortunate wife-beater). Prince's video is alot more tongue in cheek, From the first shot he seems more amused by the woman and the situation than overtly into her. Prince portrays himself as being more interested in keeping his cool while mugging for the camera. Just a different vibe, imo.

Apparently a "Black Sweat" is what happens when you don't dance or move at all. Funny expressions, and I dig her dancing, and I dig the song, but why is Prince holding back? A man with his dance moves should be WOWING everybody by grooving to his own beat. These are the things about Prince that frustrate the hell out of me!!

hm, this song is okay - "better" than 'I know 3 words of Spanish'
to me this song is a "hybrid" between KISS & HOUSEQUAKE.. best part of this video : THE DJ WHAT is HER name??? I'll see you tonight..

P looks good hes 46 whats he supposed to look like? I wish he could still dance but its apparent that he either can't or doesn't feel comfortable doing it. He probably feels 46 after dancing in those friggin heels all these years.
In any case good video fun song and has strong potential for commercial success with a big push from Universal. Now that aside I really like the song its fun. Don't know why some are comparing it to Musicology the single which was a completely different type of record and really good in its own right. Lets hope they don't stop promoting Black Sweat like they dropped Musicology after 3 weeks. People have to be reminded how good Prince is if its commercial success hes looking for. Dance... Let me see you dance
