Well he might respect him but he was clearly annoyed with him at the RHHOF. Just look at the look Petty gives Prince when Prince leans back playing, and Petty shaking his head when all he can see is Prince with his back to him, guitar raised playing away.

Our little man killed it but not without stepping on a few toes.

I always thought Tom was shaking his head in amazement at what he was seeing/hearing.

Maybe I'll have to go watch it again to see...

Lita Ford was the guitarist for the teenage girl band, The Runaways back in the 70s--Joan Jett was also a member. As a solo artist, Lita was the first lady of hair metal in the 80s. Her biggest hits were "Close My Eyes Forever" (with Ozzy Osbourne) and "Kiss Me Deadly".

Back in the 80s right around Purple Rain she pulled out a poster of Prince at one of her concerts & she started making fun of him questioning his manhood.

And not surprisingly, her own career faded soon thereafter lol

It's called "With This Tear" and it's on a 1992 album by her.

That's funny! There is debate over the accuracy of what really happened. Nevertheless, that song made Sinead. Where is she now? or even after "Nothing Compares to U"? She should be licking Prince's boots. (no pun intended, just making a statement about that dumb dumb Sinead, lol)

What is this about Rick James being jealous of Prince? I'm not saying there was never any jealousy on Rick's part of P's phenomenal success and career, particularly when P started to overshadow him. I always thought Prince got at least SOME of his funk inspiration from Rick. Wasn't Rick here first? Didn't our man, at the start of his career, open a few dates for the Superfreak?

Someone clarify please.

Both Prince and Rick James had their first album in 1978. Rick's first album, "Come Get It!" which contained the hits "You And I" and "Mary Jane" did much better than Prince's first album, "For You". The next year, 1979, Rick did "Bustin' Out Of L Seven" and he also worked with Teena Marie on her first album, "Wild and Peaceful" which contained "Sucker For Your Love", "Deja Vu", and "I Can't Love Any More". Rick definately made a much bigger splash than Prince in the beginning.

In 1979, Prince released his second album "Prince" and was starting to get noticed with his disco hit "I Wanna Be Your Lover". "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" and "Sexy Dancer" were getting plenty of airplay too. Prince also performed on "American Bandstand" in January of 1980. All this was gaining Prince a following.

Meanwhile, Rick had just released his third album, "Fire It Up", in 1979 (he did two albums that same year) and went on tour to promote it. Prince was the opening act for Rick on this tour. Prince had a little success with the album, "Prince", but Rick had more success with his earlier projects and already had a following.

For Prince's first two albums, he was fairly tame as far as outrageousness goes. Rick, on the other hand, was already singing about drugs, prostitution, sex, etc. Rick was also wild as hell on the stage. He would pull out a big ass joint and tell the audience to "Fire It Up". I think that Prince may have seen, on that tour, what it takes to make it big....shock value. Then Prince's outrageousness began. Every night the two of them tried to outstage each other. From what I've heard, that was a hell of a tour. I was absolutely dying to see it back in the day.

The bells are wippin' and rippin' at your body and soul
Why do you like Cool J., we like rock and roll
Cause it ain't the glory days with Bruce Springsteen
I'm not a virgin so I know I'll make Madonna scream
You hated Michael and Prince all the way, ever since
If their beats were made of meat, then they would have to be mince
Rock the bells...

Keith Richards (?) ....not sure if that´s still the case.

Keith is a fan of Prince's music, but I think he has a problem with Prince's attitude . In an interview years back, Keith was talking about the time Prince was an opening act for the Stones in LA in 1981. Some idiots in the audience began booing and throwing stuff and prince and the band, and he left the stage early. Keith said something to the effect of " Hey, people have booed and thrown stuff at me for years ! Be a professional and stay on-stage and do your job" .

I think a lot of people believe that because we like a person's work, then the person is cool as well. Sad to say, a lot of great artists could be assholes or pricks in real life (Picasso, Miles Davis, John Ford, Bob Dylan, and Norman Mailer come to mind )

As for the whole 'Boy George hates Prince' bollocks - I've known George for some time now, and can personally attest that's far, FAR from the truth.

Trent Reznor still goes to see Prince in concert too, so regardles of what he may have thought of of Prince's ego back then (and by the sounds of it, he was right on the money anyway) he still respects him as an artist.

Prince kept her under contract for years with her Prince-penned record on the shelf collecting dust. In her words more-or-less, she wanted out of the contract just so she could get her own music out to the public and make a living. Prince wouln't do it.

As far as all these celebs and what they have said about Prince, don't believe all the hype! So many things people say are taken out of context to create scandal, keep it all in prospective! The media loves drama and ejaculated when they are able to turn celebs against each other! It makes me sick1 I honestly don't believe that there are to many musicians/entertainers who don't like Prince. He has proven himself over and over again and has stood the test of time. Anyway, this is a silly topic to me, cuz who really cares who hates him or who loves him? I like him and that is all that matters! biggrin
