Mountains had me floored.
SO did "Hot thing"

It's not that these are supremely good Prince songs, but during the time they where both released (the local radio stations actually played these songs alot), NOTHING sounded like them.

I was amazed at how different Prince was. And that it wasn't the desperately contrived "Being different" all the goth Kids where going for in school--it was genuine and perverse.

He had me hooked. It was like I found my rock GOd and I existed in a dream land of pure pleasurable rock&roll fantasy.

.....then a few years later he released the Ganster Glam video, and I woke up in a shivering cold sweat and never returned to that dream. (sigh)

1999 was the album for me. The entire album is so incredibly awesome. I remember listening to it for the first time when I was 12 or 13. I was like eek

"When Doves Cry" I was 13 and this song literally blew me away and turned me into the Prince fan that I am today...

The first time I heard "Something in the Water (Does not compute)" I was floored.

At very first listen...

"Anna Stesia"

I can't even think of another song that made me feel that way at first listen.

Even that aweful "Love is God, God is lOve, Girls and Boys love God above part?"
I almost wish he would just redo the song and get rid of that part, becuase it's a very pretty song...and powerful."

Perfect song for us lonely ones. And being bi, it just really made me feel I wasn't alone in the universe.

Purple Rain

First time I heard it, it just sounded like the most magical, enchanting piece of music I'd ever heard. I couldn't believe a song could sound this great, and that I could connect so much with the lyrics.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

the two albums that completely had me staggering were lovesexy and ...yes....the rainbow children...they were so completely nothing like i've ever heard...ever. they were strange..but unique, and i related to that, but i must admit i could do without the vader voice hehe

purple rain never really phased me eventhough it was the first prince album i've ever heard...followed by atwiad which blew me away too..but after years of listening 2 it, i kinda retired it as one of my faves, lovesexy and trc are what i'm listening 2 now...however, seeing prince in concert and hearing/seeing in realtime a newer version of purple rain had me flabbergasted...i was moved 2 tears 2 say the least and my friend and i were one of the last ppl 2 leave the concert because i had to take time to collect m'self LOL
ive never been so lost in a song before, never so drawn in emotionally, never so mystified. (and from so far away too, i was at the VERY top of the seating plan!)

I really enjoyed "I Wanna Be Your Lover" during the disco era and had the 45 and then bought the 45 of "Uptown" when it was released. At that time, I liked Prince a lot but was not fully hooked yet.

We had a local black dance show on television that ran for 20 years during the 1970s and 1980s called "Black Gold". I never missed this show every Saturday morning and the dancing on this show could put "Soul Train" to shame. This was the first place I heard the song "Head". This song was playing and the dancers were coming down the "Black Gold Line" and really getting off. I bought the "Dirty Mind" album that same afternoon and was officially "hooked".

I know I'm a little odd but "Come" (the song), when I 1st heard it I was like..."Is that song really that good?" I think I played that song for a week before I even heard another song on the album
Doesn't it make you smile when you realize no one was there to see the stupid thing you just did?
