Another question, just trying to make Monday as easy as possible. My wife will be trying for tickets while I'm at work.

.

Is it advisable to buy tickets directly through LiveNation, or Ticketmaster? I have read in our local newpaper (app) that tickets will be available through both vendors.

.

Thanks in advance! I haven't seen Prince since 2004, but in '04 was lucky to see him a few times.

livenation and ticketmaster are the same thing. livenation owns ticketmater

Great - I didnt know that. Thanks! I'll use the Ticketmaster site since I already have an account.

I'm pretty sure both sites won't be selling tickets. If you go to the one that isn't, it will probably take you to the other. Just check before they go on sale and see which site will be doing the sale, it will probably be Live Nation

Tickets will be sold on Livenation, and Ticketmaster will redirect you there, so to save time go directly to Livenation. Good luck buying tickets! If it's anything like Louisville, a good third of the tickets will be "scalped"'b Lubrication and put on sale a day later for $500 or $600. And the show will allegedly sell out in less than a minute, yet tickets will still be available at the door, as long as you're willing to pay several hundred dollars each.

Also: The Fillmore Detroit is a really rundown theatre. I saw Fiona Apple there, sitting in the balcony, and you couldn't hear her over the crowd talking. Not a great sound system or acoustics. Maybe they've renovated in the last could of years though. The Louisville Palace was gorgeous.

It's still a dump. Prince has played there a few times before and pissed off people everytime. It used to be called The State Theater. There were sound problems and demand far exceeded capacity everytime. The Original 7even played the larger Fox Theater which is next door when they were here. There isn't anything playing at The Fox Theater on Thursday so maybe, if demand is strong they will move the show over there? IDK. With all the local media coverage this gig is already getting there is no way 2000 seats will be enough. But then again, ticket prices haven't been announced so who knows?

Not sure if 3rdEyeGirl has done a show with 20,000?... They did the Superdome last July... 65,000 people!! They would do fine at Joe Louis.

When I saw P live in 2010 in Arnhem, Holland, it was the first time in 8 years, so I was totally cool with him playing the old hits. So I can understand lovepotion: if it's been 23 years, you won't give a damn what he plays, you just wanna see him! But I also understand Signothetimes1987: if you've seen him lots of times, hearing Purple Rain again is going to be boring. Opening with Lovesexy? Sure, I'd love that! And I can tell you what the audience reaction is going to be: omg confuse disbelief headbang woot! eyepop I'm just very blessed to have been there at the North Sea Jazz Festival when he actually did play some rarities (not Lovesexy). And I also think 3rdEyeGirl was an honest attempt to move away from the Greatest Hits shows and try something new. But now that it's obvious that Plec is dead he's playing it safe again.

Exactly! Although I hope he does play his rocker jams on plectrum electrum and chaos and disorder tunes. I love when he rocks out. Your lucky he played some rarities ...I'm hoping he let's loose and does the same in Detroit since he considers it his second hometown! Any other others hoping to go?

I plan to attend a show. The demand that's for Prince here will demand multiple nights. Since he's not supporting an album, he mgiht as well play Joe Louis Arena. But then again I don't know if 3RDEYEGIRL has played a gig in a venue of 20,000 or better.

I'm hoping its one of the venues downtown Detroit and not the palace. Your right Joe Louis arena would be the way to go if its a one night deal. Many on this site claim 3rd eye girl can't handle playing in a large venue so we will have to wait and see.

I wonder will he mix his Set list up more or will he play like the most recent Hit & Run concert were he look like he was doing too many old hits on there? razz lol

[Edited 4/4/15 3:40am]

the question is how long can he keep this con going

and call it a new tour?

under any moniker the setlists are basically the same.

and they're irritating.

sampler snippets of his best songs, hits played so many times

it's on automatic.

it's been the same ol for a decade now,

i've paid for the same shit 4 times........live out loud,

welcome to wherever.......P is just stale.

open the show with LOVESEXY(the song) full version.

imagine the crowd re4action.

I,for one,am done with "the show".

I'd rather play darling nikki with lyrics

while blazing a fat one.Prince would not approve.

SignOTT, U Nailed it!!! Prince lost his nuts or guts or both and something else the same basic tired Set Lists for quite awhile now. As if P himself thinks all those other jams he has made over the years ain't worth a damn! He's got a bunch of hits in my opinion he has made since he was Black listed by WB that don't ever get played!!! eek razz lol I know he has to play some classics but jeez like you say same ole stuff about a decade or longer.

The Fox & Joe Louis Arena are not run by Live Nation. Those are Ilitch owned properties and run by Olympia Entertainment. I don't see how it will be anywhere other than the Fillmore.

I have seen a ton of shows at The Fillmore. No idea how it can be declared a "dump". Is it as nice as the place in Louisville, no, but your definition of a "dump" is sure different than mine. You want a dump? JOE LOUIS ARENA.

The Fillmore is booked for the Detroit Music Awards Friday so unless he hangs in town and does more shows over the weekend, curious how this all plays out. Tickets will be impossible to get if he only does one show.

He would easily sell out The Palace if he was here. Demand is huge for him around here.

.

I'm from the Detroit area, and have seen him at:

The Palace a few times

The Fox Theater

DTE (Pine Knob)

Detroit Opera House

.

Honestly the best concert to me was Detroit Opera House, and the worst one was the Musicology-era Palace. There was a mixup in fanclub tickets, and we did not get the better seats promised with the NPGMC membership. I believe that was a Detroit-only mixup that was corrected for the next city.

.

The Fillmore (formerly The State Theater) is not as nice as The Fox, but I wouldn't call it a dump.

Fillmore is definitely not a dump.... but tickets will be extremely hard to get. Faith No More sold out instantly, I didn't even have a chance at those. I've never been to a show at the Fillmore where they've had seating on the floor though, only general admission. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

That's why I'm not holding my breath on getting tickets for the Thursday show. I'm hoping Prince will announce an additional show with the sale of those tickets for next week. People that do go will have a good time and wont leave disappointed.

[/quote . I agree. When I saw Lenny kravitz at the Fillmore 3 years ago it wasn't a dump. I think it will be nice because its a small venue and you can get up close and personal. On the other hand, will that make it nearly impossible to get tickets??

I talked to Kirk Saturday night and he said Judith Hill would be opening for Prince in Detroit. It's kind of odd that still no ticket info is availabe and tickets are supposed to go on sale in a half hour.

Yes she was announced here locally as the opener a couple of days ago.
