Yes I saw two girls escorted out with police as well. I wonder if it was the same two. Was it in section F2 by any chance? Row W? I was in row Z and couldn't believe it....

There was a cellphone nazi going around with his flashlight threatening to kick people out if he caught them texting etc. This was our entertainment before the show started.

'cmon ppl i wasn't even there and i can't believe you guys are omitting the fact that they did For You and a snippet of 1999 BEFORE the curtains went up and they did LGC. it wasn't an "overture" of For You or a recording, but full version. maybe they were getting the sound right. I heard he made a comment about "having to soundcheck all over again", but anyway. that's a big deal to me, he NEVER does For You.

Yes I was a little disappointed that he didn't play any of his new stuff from the PE. I was actually suprised that he isn't trying to promote the new albums. sad All in all it was still nice to be there. The energy was higher than high....

it was probably best for him not to perform those songs and smart because the majority of the Detroit audience are most likely not familiar with any of the PE rock songs, especially since none of them received airplay, he probably played what the crowd is familiar with and wanted to here, keep hope he'll play the songs you like on his next Detroit gig. Remember there are always more casual fans seeing him for the 1st time than hardcore ones who know every song from every album.

Yeah your probably right. He needs to have two separate concerts one for casual fans and one for the hardcore afficiandos.

RespectYourPrivacy - Please tell me how you arrived at such a bold presumption in the highlighted quote above. Detroit, although majority African American by far was an "early adapter" to Prince. So much so, he has spoiled us over the years in numerous ways (launching the PR tour here to 7 sold out shows at Joe Louis). We have ALWAYS loved and embraced his rock stuff, I live here and PE is STILL in heavy rotation with me. Yes, I'm a hardcore fan, but there are LOTS of us here and we STILL devour everything he puts out, REGARDLESS of airplay.

Great Show!

Judith Hill is the best find Prince had in years, i enjoyed her .

The final song to the night was The Love We Make

Clouds was the only song from AOA, nothing from PE.

Going to bed now.

I didn't see that many Judith Hill pictures, so here's a nice one... razz

Cell Phone-Wielding Fans Ejected From Detroit Prince Concert; ‘I Cried All Night Over It’

DETROIT (WWJ) – It was the entertainment event of the season in Detroit Thursday night: Prince performing a spectacular, marathon show at a sold-out Fox Theatre, after an 11 year absence.

While many are raving about the concert a day later, it left a bad taste in the mouths of some fans who were kicked out over Prince’s strict “no cell phones” concert policy....

I haven't seen Prince live since 2004 (or 2006, if you count the Tamar tour). Therefore, I haven't seen a show with a sampler set. I've heard one or two boots of it, that's all.

IF he comes to Houston or anywhere close, I am extremely curious as to how I'll react to the sampler set. I have a feeling I'm going to dig it, but I could be wrong.

However, if a fan-of-37-years like me enjoys the sampler set the first time I see it live, then you can imagine how much a casual fan enjoys it. Hopefully we will see.

I don't doubt her story at all, but I had mine out, was told to put it away and I did. Others around me were like little kids as soon as the teacher looked away they were on their phones and were warned multiple times. So it all seems it was inconsistent policing of the rules, which is too bad for the people that were booted. sad

Everyone had fair warning ahead of time. They had security going up and down the lines outside telling them they would be thrown out if they were caught taking pictures or filming. He even asked "Does everyone understand? Because I'm telling you and there are also signs posted at the entrances and lobby. So don't cry and say you were not warned." So it was quite clear to me.

.

I didnt see many until Prince told everyone to take their phones out during Controversy. Then it was game on. I expected him to say ok you can all put your phones away now but he didnt. So some probably thought the rules changed and it was ok. Plus there were probably some sections with security who were more laid back than others. It's too bad it was inconsistent but like I said they made it clear what would happen if caught.

Yeah I noticed that too, I think it's unfortunate she got kicked out for just having the phone in her hand, not even taking a pic... Then you see all the phones up and they're still there...

Whenever I go see P live or at PP parties, I leave my phone in the car always!!

But some of these people they just don't know or don't think it's a big deal...

In anycase I think I would've cried all nite too if I had driven 2 hours and gotten kicked out right b4 he came onstage!!! err

This is absolutely not true. It was not a full version of "For You". It was just like on the Nude Tour when little recorded snippets of his songs were played as an Intro to the show. They would play little snippets then they would slow down and go into the next one.

It was a new taped intro to the show, again, similar to how he opened the Nude Tour.

Prince + Detroit = Lovefest

I was suprised by the setlist being void of most of AOA and 3EG but I think the 11 years between shows dictated that.
I think Prince played to all of us "Motor Babies" that wanted to get together like we used to "back in the day"

each song was like a faded photograph that brought back so many memories for all. This was an "I love Detroit" and "Detroit Loves Prince" kind of night.

I love hearing lesser known songs as much as the next guy but I've been seeing Prince shows since 1984 and this was truly one of his best.

Thanks for a great night Prince, "Partyman" and "4ever in my life" were awesome surprises!

P.S. Judith Hill and the band were great, I'd love to see them again in a smaller club setting!

[Edited 4/10/15 8:14am]

Could not say it better myself.

Been a fan since 1984. Have seen Prince too many times to remember including numerous shows at Paisley Park. Have seen all but two Michigan shows since 1988. I expected a hit filled setlist but there was something "extra" last night. The love being sent to the stage from the Detroit crowd was sent back a hundred times by Prince.

This is what makes Detroit shows so special and why I was so grateful I was able to attend last night. I can be as jaded and cynical as anyone when it comes to the "same tired hits" but as others have said here, the lesser known songs didn't go over that well with the majority of the crowd and this was about reconnecting with one of the cities that helped break this dude in the early days.

I enjoyed this show more than any of the Musicology Detroit dates to be honest. Really love how he has pared down the horns and also the exclusion of a certain female backing singer. Liv and the girls sounded great and don't try to take over the show like that former certain backing singer.

I'm right there with you, this was a classic show. Even though I have heard them countless times on boot and in person, "Hot Thing", "Housequake" and "Cool" had me sweating and dancing up a storm. Such a fun night.

And again completely agreed on Judith Hill, was really hoping for a club date while they were in town and would definitely go see her if she tours on her own. A perfect opener for the night.

Oh and I have to say, I have ZERO sympathy for people thrown out for being on their phones. It could not have been more clear cut what the policy was yet I saw people around us, EVEN after being warned keep pulling theirs out. Are people really that damn addicted to their cell phones?

It was funny as hell though when after watching people get harrassed all night Prince asked everyone to pull their phones out and "light up this place" and it turned into a SEA of people video recording him and taking pictures. He might want to re-think that next time. lol

For those that constantly complain about all things Prince, just be glad he's still alive and healthy enough to perform. Do you think fans of Jimmy Hendrix, James Brown, and Michael Jackson wish they were alive so they could see them? Prince will be 57 in June. Why would you expect him to be as energetic and agile as he was when he was younger? He still got IT! Come on Antonb, 7roses, Revolution75, and the few others who always have something negative to say... stop the hate. Ever heard the phrase, "If you don't have anything positive to say, don't say anything at all."? I can't even enjoy this site because you all hog it up with your complains and criticism. Why can't people these days just put their phones AWAY while at concerts, movies, (nice) restaurants? People are glued to their phones even at church and funerals. It's sad that's how things have become and people need to be treated like little children to get a point across, i.e. NO PHONES ALLOWED TURN YOUR PHONE OFF AND PUT IT AWAY. Enjoy the moment FOR ONCE, and stop texting or playing your game on your phone or whatever else it it that's so important on a cell phone. And I'm sorry if some people got removed from the show but they knew the deal at a Prince concert regarding phones and if they choose to be sneaky or act like "little kids as soon as the teacher looked away" then there are going to be consequences. If the policing and enforcing of these rules was unfair and not consistent, I agree that's not right - but in my opinion people should have just followed the well-known and well-advertised rule of a Prince concert which is NO PHONES. Simple.

DETROIT (WWJ) – The entertainment event of the season unfolded in Detroit Thursday night when Prince performed a spectacular, marathon show at a sold-out Fox Theatre after an 11 year absence.

While many were raving about the concert a day later, it left a bad taste in the mouths of some fans who were kicked out over Prince’s strict “no cell phones” concert policy.

Fans were warned before the show began to leave their phones off during the show or be expelled.

Heather Cox of Port Clinton, Ohio, said she arrived a little late, missed the warning, and simply had her phone in her hand when a security guard approached and told her and her boyfriend they had to leave.

Ironically, toward the end of the show, Prince told fans they could take their phones out. Hundreds of photos and videos of the “Purple Rain” portion of the show were shared on social media.

“That makes me so upset,” Cox told WWJ’s Sandra McNeill, through tears. “Because…I mean, the concert had started 30 seconds before. I was not even to my seat, and had my phone in my hand, and the man kicked me out.

“I don’t understand the security guards… I don’t know if they were his guards, or the guards of the theater, but they were over-zealous, I believe.”

Cox said she drove two hours, spent $800 on tickets, and didn’t take any pictures.

“They didn’t take into account the money that people spent for that concert. I wasn’t in there trying to do a photo shoot; I was in there trying to see the concert, you know?”

“I cried all night over it,” she added. “I’m a huge fan and I don’t have money like that. This was a big treat. This was like birthday, Christmas, everything for this year.”

They would have had to shoot me. My body would still be in the aisles.

No way am I leaving willingly for holding my cellphone while walking to my seat. The usher-nazis at The Fox theater bring back a lot of bad memories for me. I've seen a lot of shows there and they tend to harrass the paying customers for minor reasons. I've never had any serious problems, but you feel stupid dropping hundreds of dollars on seats and then having somebody stand over you and try to police you. No other venue in the Detroit area does this.

They say that it was Prince's decision, and since soundcheck photos leaked before the show maybe something was said, but I've seen the same thing at other concerts there. Jermaine Jackson told them from the stage to leave people alone during The Jacksons concert. Morris Day inadvertently gave the ushers fits, when he kept calling for fans to get onstage during The Original 7even show. They just seemed so defeated at that point after harrassing people for dancing during a FUNK show. Hopefully next go round Prince will leave Olympia Ent. out of the mix.

Prince really represented Minnesotta well, imo, when he essentially rebutted Minnesotta Twins' annoucer Burt Blyleven's unprovoked offensive tweets earlier that day, that claimed Detroit, had an "ugly" downtown. Prince doesn't get PR right very often, but he hit a home run when he said 'You have a beautiful city. Try to keep it that way so I can come back'.

Eye like the brilliant, sneaky, way prince ask everyone to take their phones out during "Controversy". it's only a trap 4 the" Purple Police", 2 c & identify who has a phone, in the venue. Peeps are so clueless these days. biggrin

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince
