Given that the Brixton Academy has a capacity of 5000 then surely this would have to be ticketed (e tickets) as it would be a health and safety issue if 5000+ people have to queue for long periods. Is anyone familiar with the venue - is a 5000+ queue possible in the area?

Not sure about 5,000 long queue but the queue was pretty big when I went to see Prince there in '98. Don't forget that even with tickets, it's still first come first served as far as the standing room is concerened, so people will still queue up for many hours to be close to the front.

RIP sad

3rdEyeGirl announced Brixton with the others at the end of one of the Kings Cross shows. They said they'd be doing it but didn't give a date.

What is the academy like? All standing and no slope on the floor? This sounds like a crush waiting to happen.

Thanks - Getting 5000 people through the doors all paying on the night would be a time consuming process. Is the circle in the venue seated?

Brixton has seating on balcony, standing below on sloped floor so good venue really. I'm only. 5'2 and can always see there, just hoping for advanced tickets now!

My only trip there was to see New Order a year or two ago...from what I remember Brixton is a pretty busy area, and I can't see a queue of 5,000 working as well there (not impossible, but far from ideal). If this is going to be the next venue, they need to get it ticketed. It was hairy at Ronnies last night...can you imagine the carnage with 5,000 people and idiots trying to push in, celebs turning up, etc eek

I didn't bother going to shows when I was a couple of miles away fom them but Manchester will be special, so I'm gonna hire a mini bus and bring up the London posse.

Unique: Whats ur prediction for date of Brixton?

well its tuesday, tomorrow is brit awards 19th, manchester is fri/sat 21/22, brixton is free from sunday 23 till the end of the month bar wed 26 the nme awards. to give both a break to band and logistics for transportation etc, sunday 23 is out, thursday 25 is out, so mon/tue 24/25, is a possibility, likewise 27/28. i'd say mon 24 is less likely to give a real break after travelling, dunno how tue sits with nme award setup, likewise thu with nme cleanup, and dunno if the band will be around after friday or leaving at the weekend. but thats 4 days narrowed down, and 2 are more likely than others, the tuesday or thursday

its 4921 capacity. unticketed, they could do £70 on the door and see another koko, in that less than 3000 turn up (remember loads from the first gig went to the second), or it could be a final £10 to try and fill the place last minute, cash on doors to get in quick. as plenty of space for all there should be no crazy line business. they could keep the upstairs closed if there isn't so many in line, and open it if the line gets to a reasonable stage, like what they did at indigo2 for aftershows (upstairs was closed half the time)

If they put tickets on sale a few days in advance (thus enabling people to know that they would get in) they would surely fill 2 nights in Brixton pretty easily... just sayin'.

I do admire the whole surprise announcement deal and the anti-tout elements of the paying-on-the-door that we have seen in this Hit-and-Run tour, but I would love at least one show that I could actually go to like a normal gig. Not so much for myself, but I have some curious friends that I would love to take to their first Prince gig, and a Father who has decided that seeing Prince is on his 'Bucket List' (but who refuses to do this whole crazy queuing thing).

I'd think that logically, the Brixton gigs(s?) would be the best chance for this (as surely 4921 people all paying-on-the-door could be a little crazy in terms of crowd control), but hey, this is Prince, so hey who know... confused

ETA: Great analysis of the potential dates btw, that all makes very good sense!

Dates, venues and prices do not need to be known so late in the day to cut out touts. I've been to some quite exclusive gigs over the years that didn't require me to find out with a days notice and to have to queue for 10+ hours - only to have the likes of Noel Gallagher come and jump the queue!

I sick to death of reading "dont do tickets in advance becasuse of touts" !!

Fans safety, comfort, access and concert going experience must count for something and 99.9% of artists use ticketing

I would rather have an opportunity of buying from a tout than having to travel 150 miles, book a day off work and book a hotel in London and still not get to see the show !!!!

SIMPLE !

Oh come on it's not all doom n gloom - you'd get to meet loads of great people whilst waiting in the queue for 8-10 hours! That's gotta count for something?!

Like I said before, you can still go and queue with a ticket if you want to be near the front. So you still get the queueing experience that you cherish and those of us with familes/whatever can roll up 20 minutes before show time and still know we're getting in.
