Here comes Prince talking about a charity perfume...where he gives 7% of the profits to 7 charities. Generous, Princey. Next, he announces a set of 7 shows (at a hotel, no less) for the down to earth price of $3121 (and that doesn't even included tax, tip, or alcohol) or GA tickets for $312.01. All of this 3121 business, of course, thanks to a cd that dropped a year ago and went...nowhere. This guy is totally crazy. And quite frankly, anyone who supports this lunacy is just as crazy. actually according 2 reports 3121 was his 1st cd to enter the charts at #1.. i could be wrong but i DO remeber reading it somewhere. ( not his 1st #1 cd, but his first #1 entry after a 7day soundscan... that, plus vegas, plus superbowl and alma... face it, he aint stopping NO time soon.. when/if the world tour comes and tickets are 31.21 u will be happy Not that I judge a records success solely on units sold but since you went there...how many total copies did 3121 sell? How many of those were rabid fans buying multiple copies in hopes of winning some marketing ploy of a contest? Superbowl was cool, no doubt! American Idol, not so cool. As for Vegas, not one night was sold out. Ultimately, Prince did very well as far as his fans were concerned. Those outside of that relatively small circle didn't even know he had a new record out.

Most of the shows I go to or promote are in club settings and most sell out. I've never heard of such a lame excuse to explain away the failure of a pop star to sell out. The show didn't sell out because not enough people wanted to pay the overpriced ticket cost.

An amazing experience shared with some amazing friends. exactly. did we pay $100 for both aftershows? if we did, i spent $575 for 2 3121 shows and 2 aftershows. add in hotel and airfare, and i still didn't hit anywhere near $3121. still, i had a great experience and don't begrudge him for asking for what the market allows in LA. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

not entirely. Prince was operating outside of the Vegas model. Vegas is a destination venue. people plan trips to Vegas around entertainment. you can't announce dates for that kind of show one week in advance and sell it out. by and large, outside of locals and L.A. weekenders, Vegas travelers plan trips in advance. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista
