If you have a connection to or are sensitive to that which is of the spirit world, you may have some moments which might be uneasy with the content.

The Excorcist and A Serbian Film are pretty much the only two "horror" movies I don't rock with under any circumstances after seeing them once. A Serbian Film has nothing to do with demonic possession or spiritual stuff, but is is likely the vilest, most evil piece of mentally tortuous film making since 120 Days of Sodom (aka "Salo"). Those are the 3 films that I always kinda give people the side eye with when they just want to "try something new" in the horror genre and might mention those as options.

You know, the more I think of it, why can't you try something a bit less heavy and more "fantastic" as in fantasy-like....like say, Friday the 13th, a Nightmare on Elm Street movie, or hey, one of the Hellraisers

So me and my sister went to my mom's room and stayed in the bed with cookies and juice and stuff and watched The Movie Loft... a program where we watched scary movies every Saturday night.

It scared the crap outta me....

I also watch the Omen, Amityville Horror, Trilogy of Terror and Rosemary's Baby the same way as a kid. Exorcist being the scariest of all the scary movies I seen.

The 70's era horror films were the best in instilling fear. Not gory, but more demonic and left your imagination to run wild.

the answer to the qwestion is YES.

even by todays standards that movie

has it's moments... the 'scary part'

is that it gets you on an emotional level

rather than that physical 'jump' level

it makes you uncomfterble inside...

Amityville is almost as scary as Exorcist is.

The slasher movies that came after (Chainsaw, Hostel, Friday the 13, Nightmare on Elm st., Saw, etc.) were never really as scary as the demonic movies.

imo, not scary by today's horror movie standards. but, shocking in a way and definitely a must see

Trilogy of terror scared me after for YEARS... because it made me peek under my bed and scared for my ankles.

The Exorcist and The Shining are among the best horror movies ever produced. The Exorcist was recognized and nominated for multiple Academy Awards at the time, and had a huge influence that lasts on horror movies to this day. In fact it had such a huge influence, and movies have used it's key ingredients so much in the decades since, that it doesn't even seem special or scary to kids these days.

But you have to understand that back then for a major Hollywood movie to have a kid cussing and saying sacrilegious stuff like that was incredibly disturbing as a concept.

Also for a horror movie to be treated with intense serious acting performances that were realistic was also a shocker that made folks get into it.

These days those things are normal in horror movies. To a certain extent. I still don't see major Hollywood movies coming out with things like the crucifix self mutilation scene in terms of offense and sacrilege.

I love both movies. The background music alone in "The Shining" still makes the hairs on my arm stand up to this very day, even though I've seen the movie a thousand times. That's why I love watching it. Something about staying remote in a large, grand hotel mesmerizes me.

I was cool with the Omen, even as a kid.

I just did a course late last year/early winter this year on the book of Daniel, and Eschatology, & that made me look at the movie in an entirely different way. I find it intriguing and can see where they inserted parts of Daniel into the plots of the series (while using a US political figure as an easy choice to be what is "The Little Horn" in end time prophecy, though it's not really accurate nor in alignment with what/who Scripture scripture will be the final world power, ect, ect) .

Now what I can tell you is that I was NOT cool with was that damn Amityville Horror! Add that to the the fact that I had a big ole tree outside of my bedroom window, and for some reason the year that film came out, my crazy ass mama got us handmade clowns that looked like the evil cousins to the one that tried to kill folks in the movie . I haven't been home in a while, but I think her crazy ass still has them clowns sitting pretty on the couch in he basement. The light shines smack dab on their grinning faces when you clich the light switch to walk downstairs and all you hear ids the sound of the gas furnace . Next time I go home, I'mma burn them mofos down at the lake and start anointing everything that ever touched them with oil and holy water

Aww shucks, the Friday the 13th movies, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street are movies I treat as pure comedy. I only watch those for laughs. Now Hellraiser, is on a whole other level.

You can count on both hands the amount of people who conveniently fall while being chased and end up being hacked. It's hilarious. Especially when the teenagers sneak off to have sex in the most dumbest places ever and end up getting sliced up.

Save yourself a couple hours and watch this instead...
