I heard that The Omen is much worse than The Exorcist.

nod

I once stayed up until 4am watching an "Omen" marathon. (I-IV)

Bad idea... disbelief

The "Amityville Horror" was a joke to me...
The book was way worse! I kept looking over my shoulder while I was reading. omg

Really? The Omen is one of those movies I never really got was so scary about it....but if you are watching the installments back to back to back, then I can see how it would make a person jumpy. lol This thread is so exciting, I always love a good horror movie. nod And Halloween is right around the corner too? excited That's when the Chiller channel starts to play the really good horror movies.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Wow, I always thought they were going to be really scary. lol

ohgoon You can count on both hands the amount of people who conveniently fall while being chased and end up being hacked. It's hilarious. Especially when the teenagers sneak off to have sex in the most dumbest places ever and end up getting sliced up. spit

eek lol

The Omen didn't mess me up like Exorcist did...

Amityville is almost as scary as Exorcist is.

The slasher movies that came after (Chainsaw, Hostel, Friday the 13, Nightmare on Elm st., Saw, etc.) were never really as scary as the demonic movies.

I don't think I could stand a slasher film. barf

The thing that bothers me about slasher films is the fact that, sometimes, in the back woods of some f**ked up small town, or, in a large metropolis like 1970's Summer of Sam New York, this s**t actually happens sometimes. Paranormal/demonic stuff is a whole different ball game that I think a person would really have to be intensely plugged into, & on a deeply spiritual level to experience even the slightest hint of it in real life- (I use some of my Brasilianfriends as an example from hearing the wildest stories of their experiences with that), but hell- a slasher situation? A person only has to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with a mofo with one screw loose, who made one bad decision and can't come back from the point of no return, and you end up tied to a tree like Jon Voight in "Deliverance" lol .

My other half asked me if we could go driving down southern back country roads when we visit the States, thinking it would be like driving the "Romantic Road" along the Rheine River here. I told his ass, "not unless you want us to stumble onto Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre along the way :bored2: " . I remember being on just a couple road trips with my dad driving when I was a kid, being in unfamiliar territory, and people looking at us just like the toothless geezers in the "Squeal like a pig" scene from Deliverance.. I remember my dad, who in my view is one of the hardest freedom march, freedom ride 60's dudes in life- always eyeing our car door locks and gasoline gage during those tense moments...cause he knew one wrong move with not enough gas to haul ass.... could leave everybody in that car 2 steps away from being sodomized and slashed up like a bad B-movie on a Saturday night evillol . Shoooot, I'm not desensitized enough to violence to not consider the options where slasher movies are concerned, and especially considering the level of violent crimes we have these days. I remember my first days arriving in Miami for college, and hiding the news channels from my visiting mother because they reported finding the day's hacked off body parts the way some channels would report a missing pet falloff Horrendous stuff, but it makes the slasher stuff sometimes "not entertaining" to watch, too lol

it doesn't matter whut is 'scarier'.

the answer to the qwestion is YES.

even by todays standards that movie

has it's moments... the 'scary part'

is that it gets you on an emotional level

rather than that physical 'jump' level

it makes you uncomfterble inside...

nod It strikes at your spirit and changes you if you believe in God and demons.

right. After just HEARING about the scenes of the movie as a kid, I had nightmares. And even today, I'm a little uneasy in the dark when home alone. I need some light so I can see if there is anything lurking in the shadows. And the EXORCIST did it to me years ago.

I think the Exorcist is a great movie, as it is a great classic tale of good VS evil.

With that said, i think it is scarier if you are a religious person, most of the people i know who are atheists or agnostic don't find the film scary. But those who are religious find the film terrifying...

But i'm sure evens ome who are religious may not totally find the film scary, i myself just think it's a good movie & i like the story cool

The Exorcist and The Shining are among the best horror movies ever produced. The Exorcist was recognized and nominated for multiple Academy Awards at the time, and had a huge influence that lasts on horror movies to this day. In fact it had such a huge influence, and movies have used it's key ingredients so much in the decades since, that it doesn't even seem special or scary to kids these days.

But you have to understand that back then for a major Hollywood movie to have a kid cussing and saying sacrilegious stuff like that was incredibly disturbing as a concept.

Also for a horror movie to be treated with intense serious acting performances that were realistic was also a shocker that made folks get into it.

These days those things are normal in horror movies. To a certain extent. I still don't see major Hollywood movies coming out with things like the crucifix self mutilation scene in terms of offense and sacrilege.

nod I love both movies. The background music alone in "The Shining" still makes the hairs on my arm stand up to this very day, even though I've seen the movie a thousand times. That's why I love watching it. nod Something about staying remote in a large, grand hotel mesmerizes me. nod

That damned Jack Nicholson messed me up . That man inhabits crazy far too easily for me lol The ending of that one was good stuff, though. The portrait...

I'm home alone, middle of the day. I wanna watch my first horror movie, and I chose The Exorcist.

What's the verdict? Scary or not?

This movie still scares me at the age of 41, first time I saw it I was in grade school, 1st or 2nd grade. I know many of my friends who are not scared of this movie, but I highly believe this could happen to a person so that's my scare factor.

I hope you enjoy it.

Trilogy of terror scared me after for YEARS... because it made me peek under my bed and scared for my ankles. lol

Yeah, but when you watch that Damien back to back to back to back, it messes with your mind. lol

I love them. I don' think they are scary but the good ones have an aura that I've never felt in any other genre.

I remember that movie. It's been a long time since I saw it but I remember it.

The Exoricist I never saw until decades after it came out and years of hearing all the scary parts, so it had lost it's punch by the time I got to it. The Omen I saw at the right age at the right time, so I was soooooo drawn into it, I look at it now and I have to roll my eyes. Horror movies aren't my thing but I think I've seen a third to about half of them. Friday the 13th disturbed me the most, cause he got you in your dreams and I would nuts enough to dream about it, so that didn't work. It's Alive, was another one that bugged me.
