Aliens is first thing tomorrow...I still have to see The Thing, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th, and plenty of other ones mentioned here. lol

You should watch in this order:

1. Alien

2. Aliens (makes no sense without the far superior original)

3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

4. Halloween

5. The Thing (Part II if you want to)

6. Night Of The Living Dead

7. Dawn Of The Living Dead

8. Silence Of The Lambs

9. Nosferatu (A classic black and white silent vampire flick)

10. Nightmare On Elm St.

11. Freeks (Another old film. This one isn't silent though)

12. Friday The 13th Parts 1-3 (All of them)

13. Zombi 2 (There's no Zombi 1)

14. Audition (Simply creepy, and disturbing like no other movie. You might not want to watch this one)

thumbs up! Great list... One note on the original Night of the Living Dead--not only was it a great horror flick but it was a social commentary as well. I have to add, once again, a horror flick that creeped the hell out of me and my ex-husband so bad we had to put my son to bed because it was just too scary for kids--The People Under The Stairs--I was totally on the edge of my seat. BTW don't show little kids the original Poltergeist--my son started crying and freaked out when people got sucked into the TV... lol I thought it was little kid safe--who would've known... razz

You need a good monster film to see... hmmm

These originals were ALL good movies... didn't like any of the sequels. Waste of time IMO.

Most monster movies that scared viewers years ago may not scare you since special effects have come such a long way and many old monster movies just do not have the same effect now because the special effects are cheesy, (like the Howling/Fog/American Werewolf in London/etc.)

Now there was a Dracula movie from 1979 ??? I loved that version... maybe UFOClub knows the exact title of the movie since I seen it YEARS ago... it was creepy and the traditional story of Dracula.

I like Vampire films...

Salem's Lot

Interview with a Vampire (sexy/romantic... Twilight wishes it could be but fails)

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (Anime)

Van Helsing (action film -not scary)

Underworld (series- action films also)

Now there are Mummies, Werewolves, Frankenstein and ghosts stories too, but I think Van helsing incorporates the classic all-in-one monster flick... maybe that's why I like it, it has all the classic good vs. evil, monsters story line.

Most now are not scary, but all have that classic good vs. evil feel to them, pretty predictable also.

lol

I have found this to be the case in every single movie so far. lol

Thanks for the suggestions, I will check these ones out. I've loved most of what I've seen so far, sans Scream 2. lol

Well whatever you do, ignore any titles that I may have mentioned on the firt pages of this thread. They aren't typical horror movies, and are so much of a psychological mindf*** that I would not wish them on my worst enemy. They pretty much came with warnings from reviewers like,

"there is no reason for anyone to see this movie. If choose to, then you're doing so at your own emotional risk and God help you afterwards".

Me and my nosy, "want to know what edgy really is" ass made the mistake of not following that advice. The dude in "Serbian Film", I think I saw him just playing a bit part as a villain in the urban crime drama "Takers" last year, and I was so traumatized from the sight of him that I didn't sleep for two days. Just seeing the shape of his head and his teeth again shake

I've never seen this, but after reading folks comments on here about the movie, and then reading about it on Wiki, I don't think I could take watching that movie. And that's a first for me because I'm willing to be a maverick and watch anything, but stuff that deals with rape...especially with children, I just can't. I know those scenes and images would stay in my head for a few days and I'd be a walking zombie. I still to this day can't watch that gang rape scene in "The Accused" with Jodie Foster. Once was enough.

I saw the dang thing straight from the film festival circuit with no idea of the horror that lay before me, and with the movie "120 Days.." I watched online having ignore the warnings. For Serbian Film, honestly- I can never see the face of any person that ever appeared in that movie, ever again. I'm not eve sure that the dude from that movie was the one in a 2 minute shoot out scene in "Takers", but he sure as hell looked like him, and it gave me a panic attack that took 2 days to recover from. The scoop on John Badham's kick ass "disco haired" 1979 "Dracula" is, it was GREAT (check out the Mina meeting Van Helsing scene in the catacombs. That's how you make a vampire scary). But... in the mid 90's when it was remastered for laserdisc, the fool (who is most famous for best picture nominated Saturday Night Fever) director decided to desaturate the awesome color the movie had to almost black and white. That's the version on cable in HD now. It sucks without all the nice color.

I saw that as a kid in the early 80's in the drive-in!!! It was AWESOME with all that color, and then again later on, and never noticed why exactly it looked flat to me.

Your first horror movie, huh?

Well, I guess The Exorcist would be the perfect place to start... after all, it did scare an entire generation of people.

But in my honest opinion............ NOPE! Not scary at all.

I own The Exorcist's 1-3 and the one that came out a few years ago, the prequel to the first one. I'd like to think of myself as someone what or a horror movie buff, specifically.

The "classic" horror films, ie: Poltergeist, Leprechaun, Chucky, Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween, Night Of The Living Dead, etc., etc., don't really do much for me other than I think Leprechaun and Chucky are funny as hell and will still play those from time to time when I need a laugh, although at one point I did find the Leprechaun and Freddy Krueger to be honestly terrifying when I was a little kid. I would honestly skip all of those. If you're looking for something scary, don't waste your time. Hellraiser isn't particularly scary, but definitely a good movie! So is The Thing. Frankenstein and Dracula with Karloff and Lugosi, classic... but not scary. I've seen Saw, the first 2, and Hostel... don't really care much for torture porn, it's all the same redundant shit after a while... you might as well watch a snuff film, which I have. Scream was actually pretty cool. I would recommend checking that series out. And all these zombie movies, ie: Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead, etc., while mildly entertaining, not scary, so what's the point. I'd rather watch Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland. And don't even get me started on "vampires".

To be honest, and a lot of you will probably make fun of me, but The Ring scared the fuck outta me! Even to this day. I hate when the TV gets all staticy. *Confessional moment* lol I have a lot of Japanese, well, foreign, horror movies, mainly Japanese, they are the kings of horror. I don't know, that shit actually freaks me out. I'm an American, but a lot of American (horror) movies don't do it for me at all. It's always another Exorcist type possession movie (we have 2 coming out right now) or a fucking zombie movie. Resident Evil is cool though, but not scary. Or they're just remakes of Japanese horror movies. And while I've seen Ringu, in this rare case, the American one scares me a whole lot more. But that was probably the last time I got good and scared from a movie.

Oh, Phantasm is pretty cool. Actually, The Hills Have Eyes was pretty fucking scary too! lol But only because that's kinda what it looks like in some parts of where I live so that shit might be fucking real! lol

5. The Thing (Part II if you want to)

6. Night Of The Living Dead

7. Dawn Of The Living Dead

8. Silence Of The Lambs

9. Nosferatu (A classic black and white silent vampire flick)

10. Nightmare On Elm St.

11. Freeks (Another old film. This one isn't silent though)

12. Friday The 13th Parts 1-3 (All of them)

13. Zombi 2 (There's no Zombi 1)

14. Audition (Simply creepy, and disturbing like no other movie. You might not want to watch this one)

Alien is definitely a really cool series. Love Sigourney Weaver and the Giger stuff. It's about as scary as Jaws though. And the whole Alien vs Predator thing... I always liked Predator better. But that movie isn't scary either. I don't think it was supposed to be (it was an action, right?)

Texas Chainsaw. Yea, that's pretty good. I forgot all about that. How was the remake?

Amityville Horror?

Thing's fucking badass, like I said.

Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal series. A must have. But not scary. Psycological. But not scary. I have a Sir Anthony Hopkins tattoo.

Nosferatu, Dracula, classics. But it probably wouldn't scare someone nowadays. Well, I don't know, Nosferatu more than Dracula maybe. They had that one episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark that kinda had a Nosferatu character, right?

Freaks IS THE SHIT!

And Audition is totally scary because it's Japanese. Those people are sick! (It's ok, I'm half Japanese).

Didn't see Psycho mentioned, unless I scrolled through it too fast.

DEFINITELY CHECK OUT this Korean movie called I Saw The Devil. And if you want some really, really fucked up shit, look up Antichrist. That is THE worst thing I've ever seen! OMG!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO SEE, however, Human Centipede. More gross than scary. Kinda like Antichrist mentioned above, but Antichrist is so much more disgusting that you have to watch it and it will fuck with your head after you've seen it. Eww... Paranormal Activity. The trailers are the coolest things about those movies. And all of that shit kinda goes back to Blair Witch Project, which was a fuckin badass movie when it came out, but now, just sad.
