I watched the show tonight without any cocktails (just to prove to myself that I could). The Absolut commercials were torrrrrrrrrrrture. lol

I think Yara's aesthetic is pretty difficult on the palate sometimes. I find Yara to be endlessly entertaining, though, and I was totally gutted when my 2 favorites were in the bottom 2. The show was a hard sell for me and these 2 really kept me watching, but I am glad that the stronger woman won. Alexis has an aesthetic that you've got to respect. She's beautiful and really does well to update that old school look. When that stupid ass Michelle said Alexis looked too abuelita, I'm like - duh. Essentially her whole look is entirely throwback sometimes. Ugh!

I have a big problem with the judges, basically. I think they are flaky and cliquey.

Good morning!

I watched last night, but I went straight to bed without logging on...

As usual, I took notes to give a comprehensive review:

  • Question: Do you really think they drink that much? I know they need to keep the Absolut product prominent, but how much are they actually drinking?
  • I felt so bad when I thought Alexis was really quitting. sad
  • Loved Ru's gown this week, but not the hair. nod
  • Mike's (judge) shirt was HIDEOUS! disbelief
  • Manila: I like her most of the time... I really liked her "After 5". The gown, not so much. I agree with Yara that the strings of coins on the swimsuit was weak.
  • Raja: Once again, I need to point out that I can't stand her. confused LET THE HEATHER SHIT REST! Her speech was "cool" [img:$uid]http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a394/Gothicbloodygem/Icons/Emots/air_quote_by_M_Wilson.gif[/img:$uid] but I just don't like her. And I hated that gown. I feel like the judges give her the "creative pass" even if it's not that great.
  • Alexis: I love her, but as much as I love that she represents the "curvy", I think her pads get bigger every week. Sometimes she looks lumpy. neutral And please don't give Raja that power... she thrives on others' misery. (I really thought she was going to tell Alexis that she wished she had made her a Heather rolleyes)
  • Yara: OMG! I have no words.... Okay, I do: That gown was a monstrosity! And she did look like her neck was gone! eek I thought she looked like Shakira in the swimsuit portion.

I have some other notes, but I have to go get dressed... typing

It's funny, I loved the hair and not the gown. I didn't feel bad for Alexis when she was gonna leave. I felt pissed. Are u fuckin kidding? At this point in the game after other folk went home instead of u you're gonna pull this shit?? And what's all this wa-wa-wa they hate me bullshit?? Like Yara (or someone said) You've won REPEATEDLY! Come on! It was this that almost made me wish for Yara to push ahead at the end but she had that emotional meltdown and fucked up the lipsynch (plus I think she said she did not prepare as well thinking she wasn't gonna be in bttm, which will always bite u in the ass in drag). But no sireeebob I didn't feel bad at all for Ms. Mateo. Put on your big girl pannies and handle your shit. Glad she did in the end. You know I've loved her from day one, but her pads are REE-DUNK-U-lUSSSSSSSS! Not even the curviest most delicious Latina has hips like that. lol Juju is another with ridiculous hips.

Raja's gown presentation more than made up for it.

What Raja lacked in cocktail look (which was terrible indeed) Yara fucked up with overdoing her gown and then showin up to the cocktail party lookin like it was a church function. Yara had 2 weak looks to Raja's one.

That's what he reminded me of Cruella in. shrug

If Alexis had really just walked off like that, I woulda thrown my drink at the wall. There would be no excuse for that kind of behavior - none! She is amazing. I get the humility and I know she has a hard time expressing herself in English (you could definitely see her shaking and stammering during her speech, she was SHOOK), but she has to refine her candor a bit. I don't think she feels BENEATH others rather she just feels very honest about her abilities. Yet she comes across as being so meek and shit, but when you ask her if she loves herself she is all, OH YESS BAY-BEE I AM ALEXIS MATEO. lol.

I got annoyed when she was sharing because Raja has no compassion, so I didn't want Alexis to give her that power... At least Manila tried to fake like she cared. lol

i dont understand why everyone hates raja. her drag is not traditional, but i think it's insanely clever. she's put an ironic and meta-cognitive narrative into her drag, something that is rarely done, and done well even less often.

manilla is quite damn good, and continues to be consistently funny and clever.

alexis is pretty solid as traditional drag with a great dose of humor and charm. it kind of kills me that she is really so unaware of her talent, but at the same time, this is VERY hopeful for her future. just like actors, writers, and other artists, the best ones tend to be those who have little to no awareness or faith in their quality. it pushes them much harder, as opposed to many artists who develop a massive ego early on and then never get better at their art because they are convinced they are the best.

yara was brilliant when she was on and waaaay off the mark when she was off. this week she was way off.

Did any of you watch the NEWNOWNEXT Awards?

I only watched until the first award was issued... Of course, I have comments:

  • Did Stacey Layne Matthews gain more weight? omg
  • Yara looked SICK! biggrin
  • The NKOTB in the plaid jacket said to the guy next to him, "They're all guys?" lol
  • Did Mariah fall on the way out? eek
  • Mimi had no rhythm. shake
  • James Vanderbeek hit Delta with the top of the egg when he came out of it.

I DVR'd it, so I'm going to watch the rest... I hope Tabatha got "Most Addictive" beg

Drag is not about exaggeration to the point of ridicule unless it's for comedic purposes. While Alexis is full of humor and wit, she continues to swear up and down that she's giving "sickening" body. She's not, she's giving a parody of a sickening body.

I don't like Raja's attitude:

  • I think she pushes bitchy to a different level- like creating that high school divide with that "Heathers" crap. One episode, fine. But the entire time?! confused
  • I also don't like that "I'm older and have been in the business longer" thing she's always spouting. Yeah, ...and? Bitch, You're in the competition just like the rest of them. Being a dried up queen ain't gonna help you win. hrmph

I'm about to post a picture of her in that "Big Booty" thread. lol

No seriously... I just thought about it... Maybe Alexis thinks a big ol' ass is really sickening. (I meet men who think it is! wink)

Maybe the women in her family drag that with them.

hiya honey!

oh, she has an ego, for sure. but she also has the ability to back it up with some strong talent. i've seen it a lot amongst artists. i can't stand (and i mean i really do not get along with) diva artists who have ego and nothing to back it up. but i can tolerate it when they do have the necessary brilliance. and i think she does.

i tended in the past to be very much like alexis in my talent and abilities (admittedly different from drag, yet still...) unsure and always on the verge of retreating into the lack of faith in myself. now i have found a balance. while i doubt i will ever cross into ego mode, i don't mind people with ego, provided...

i think raja would bother me if it werent a competition. that kind of ego can be VERY detrimental to group artistry (like say, actors), but in a competition? i'd say it's part of the process.
