Ru (with the exception of her one hit song) has always struggled for mainstream pop success and has never reached that level following Supermodel. Heck, she's the first to admit that and retired during the entire Bush Administration. For Shangela to get a network pilot is huge and in that one instance I would say she has received a chance that surpasses RuPaul's efforts. Am I saying that Shangila is a better drag artist than RuPaul? Hell no but you gotta give credit where credit is due.
And to dismiss Shangila as "an actor" who does drag is really dismissive, IMHO. Space for sale... |

Do we know that Shangela is playing Shangela on the pilot? Also, it's a pilot, do you know how many of those get made a day? I mean, I hope it gets picked up! Ru may not have enjoyed continued Top 40 success but his impact was strong enough to make him an iconic pop culture figure (even when off the radar). Ru has done film, had tv shows, 2 books, continued to make music (whether top 40 or not) and so on...I can not be convinced that 1 pilot trumps what Ru has achieved (and continues to).
I'm not at all dismissing Shangela. I'm giving him credit for his talent and smarts. Saying that he's an actor who happens to do drag vs. a drag superstar is not at all dismissive. It's just making a distinction between the two. There is great room for success in both. Shit, I'd take either. |

Yes, I know how many pilots are made but this one was ordered by NBC and staring Don "freaken" Johnson. That's about as bland and mainstream as you will ever get and it is something RuPaul never got the chance to do. And no, we don't know if Shangila is the character but the fact that someone who makes her name doing drag (and not the Tyler Perry, Eddie Murphy type), is out and proud and got cast in a middle of America show, shouldn't be marginilized. Stop marginalizing Shangila. Space for sale... |

Yes I do think you're (we're) over analyzing. I do love that we can have these back and forths and we never fight. We disagree like grown ladies. [Edited 4/7/11 10:32am] |

I can't stand Raja...
sorry to see Shangela go
- I thought Carmen was gorgeous, but I didn't like all that Heathers shit and then she kissed my future baby daddy, Johnny Weir (what? he wants kids, I have a uterus.. win-win )
Alexis, Yara & Manila are beauties, too
I love Raja.
I like all of the finalists left enough to be happy for them as winner, all for different reasons.
Child, unless you can pull a Russian baby out your uterus I'm not sure Johnny's gonna be interested. And even so, you wouldn't get no Weir Ween, Ms. Thang would have you impregnated with an LV Swarovsky'd baster.

I disagree about Shangela. I don't think she's interesting. I think her Tina Turner was embarrassing. I think her nasty attitude is also pretty embarrassing.
I agree with you about Pandora, though. I thought Pandora was really funny and talented. And interesting.
In the case of Raja, I think Raja's looks are entirely cool. I loved the fantasy look she had - looked like ice cream or Candy Land. I don't give a shit that she cheated. It's not like the game has any integrity. They send the contestants backstage to get sloshed and shit talk each other. Cmon now.
Raja cheated?
Well, she used tulle fabric to matte down the hair on the bodice... |

Well, let's start praising Chris Crocker too since he is in that pilot.

They have been trying to get that fool his own show for years now. Years! Can you believe it?
WHY? lol.
I mean, I guess the point was to praise Shangela for being noticed, but until I figure out what exactly their role in the show is and if the show is any good I reserve my praise. There's plenty of roles given to drag queens and transgendered people that makes fun of their appearance/role rather than uplifts.
I immediately think of the Tracy Jordan Dancers on 30 Rock. They're all drag queens and pregnant latinas. It's a joke and all. I love 30 Rock! But I would like to see that Shangela isn't doing the same exploitative material. |

Their outfits were supposed to be made of hair. To give hers more structure, she used the :lace: part of the wig as well.

Well, tulle is not the same as the lacefronts of a wig. Its a substantial level of cheating to use fabric as the bodice of a dress supposed to be made entirely of hair. Hell, its akin to using pattern-making books on Project Runway. It's that deep! lol |

This is how Entertainment Weekly describes the show – A Mann’s World centers on Johnson, who plays Allan Mann, a Beverly Hills hairdresser who is having trouble staying relevant. In the pilot, Shangela aka D.J. Pierce plays Snip, one of three fabulous, top-tiered stylists who come into Mann’s salon. One-third of the trio will be played by none other than viral video celebrity Chris Crocker, who became famous for his “Leave Britney Alone” video. Also starring in the show are Sex and the City‘s Mario Cantone and Ellen Barkin. Sex and the City‘s Michael Patrick King is set to produce.
Don Johnson as a Beverly Hills hairdresser.
This better be some HILARIOUS shit, if it's gonna stand a snowball's chance in hell of getting picked up for the fall. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. |

I hated to see Yara go.
She did go fairly.
I loved Manila's mini challenge RuVC commercial. And she deserved the win tonight.
Right now Alexis and Manila are tied as my #1 choice but I'm still good with any of the remaining for the win. |

Raja's gown presentation more than made up for it.
What Raja lacked in cocktail look (which was terrible indeed) Yara fucked up with overdoing her gown and then showin up to the cocktail party lookin like it was a church function. Yara had 2 weak looks to Raja's one. |
