Heck, she's the first to admit that and retired during the entire Bush Administration. For Shangela to get a network pilot is huge and in that one instance I would say she has received a chance that surpasses RuPaul's efforts. Am I saying that Shangila is a better drag artist than RuPaul? Hell no but you gotta give credit where credit is due.

Do we know that Shangela is playing Shangela on the pilot? Also, it's a pilot, do you know how many of those get made a day? I mean, I hope it gets picked up! Ru may not have enjoyed continued Top 40 success but his impact was strong enough to make him an iconic pop culture figure (even when off the radar). Ru has done film, had tv shows, 2 books, continued to make music (whether top 40 or not) and so on...I can not be convinced that 1 pilot trumps what Ru has achieved (and continues to).

I'm not at all dismissing Shangela. I'm giving him credit for his talent and smarts. Saying that he's an actor who happens to do drag vs. a drag superstar is not at all dismissive. It's just making a distinction between the two. There is great room for success in both. Shit, I'd take either.
