Yes, she did!

Why do I get the dreaded feeling that whole bring back Miss(Won'tSpoilItForWhoHasn'tSeenItYet) just to keep Raja? Her return added absolutely nothing whatsoever, so that's the only thing I can come up with.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Okay, here's my installment:

  • LOVED Ru's look this week... very pretty!
  • Matt (Manila's sister) was hilarious! And a wonderful transformation! sexy The whole time he was in drag, I tried to figure out who he looked like to me: Michelle Stafford from "Young & Restless"! eek [img:$uid]http://images.buddytv.com/articles/Image/The-Young-and-the-Restless/Michelle-Stafford-profile.jpg[/img:$uid] I tried to get a screen shot of him, but I didn't know how to do it...
  • I won't even bother to comment on Raja... zipped
  • That Heather crap is so old... rolleyes
  • I love Alexis! I've decided that I'm "Team Alexis" all the way! [img:$uid]http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk159/ladybook3/smileycheerleader.gif[/img:$uid] BAM!
  • Alexis' sister... Slava will drag again. nod
  • I wonder how they got those guys... They were all good sports! They were better than the butches from last season. rolleyes I loved their interaction in the Interior Illusions Lounge; they got so competitive! I actually laughed out loud a couple of times. lol
  • I was kind of hoping that Mariah got another chance. She was so beautiful, but boring. I wanted her to come in with a new spark...

Although I can't wait until the end, I hate that it's almost over. pout

Slava can say all he wants his interactions with Alexis were a "euro" thing but Ms. Thang was just waitin for one of those fellow jocks to make a move in that lounge. I'd watch that dvd. lurking

Like chocolate, I loved the "dudes" in the lounge during untucked and how they got all sportsmanlike about the game. A game is a game honey...mmmmkay???

I have no idea what you'r all talking about. Never seen the show, and not watching tv anyway, so have to wait till I can see it on internet.

However, John, I really liked your article. cool

The tread leads to the big question: Are you gay guys all coming to Amsterdam gay pride this year? The boats have been established last saturday. Because there were 220 candidates for a boat and there can only join 80. (because at 18.00 the canals have to be empty again, and watching 80 boats takes up 4 hours wink

So, some got a wildcard (ministery of defense, transgender clinic, some gay clubs), however most had to join the lotery of last saturday. So, we can't join with a purple boat this year. Maybe next year? An American gay striving for equal human rights boat? I can try to get a wild card for that one next year? Or at least join the lotery for a boat in the parade for next year? Well, if anyone of you picks up this idea, just let me know. I'll be glad to help.

First four who will attend the parade this year and respond to me, can stay over at my place. I live near the Amstel river and not far from the centre (depending how drunk you are, you can walk to the bars).

Let's have a party at the PARADE TOUR

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Raja is not serving up drag. She's doing Bowie rock star. Whatever! And Shangela getting an NBC pilot (which is much farther than even Ru has gotten within the mainstream realm Hollywood) is proof positive that real talent doesn't seem to get far on this show. (Hello Pandora!) That was reinforced by them bringing back the one note joke that is Carmen.

But with all that being said, this show is still the best reality show on TV. Despite allowing a one trick racial stereotype like Manila to continue to bring new lows in racial progress to third world cable channels like Logo....just saying.

Team Mateo. Though when I saw Carmen come back, I was worried! I actually like all 4 of the finalists and I liked Carmen. Could not stand Shangela, a poor man's ____. Puhleez. And the haleloo thing is way overplayed. I saw johnart asked him if he had trademarked that. How? It's a biblical phrase, not just hallelujah. Anyway.

Though I like Alexis, I know she has totally bitten at least 2 outfits from other people. I still think she deserves to win. So fucking funny!

A poor man's Tina Turner during that one challenge.

A poor man's RuPaul with some of her looks.

A poor man's drag queen in general. She's new and you can tell she is new.

And yet she had more personality and proved more entertaining then the remaining challengers. You could tell Ru struggled with the personality vs. polish. And like Pandora last season, the one queen who could actually make it outside of the very micro drag scene got the boot. Shangila's comedy skit was gold and it's great that Hollywood is taking note (while the queens on the show are left behind criticizing her make-up and stitching). The funny thing, no one person is universally stellar at being a CUNT. So Ru keeps rewarding the queens with the title that have zero personalities yet look great. Just look at which Absolute commercials get the most airplay. This year it's Pandora and the PR queen whose name escapes me. Neither years was it the top winner.

I agree. The fact that you have a drag queen making a pilot with Mr. Middle of America Don Johnson is huge and is credit to RuPaul and Drag Race. Yet, with that being said, you do kind of want the show to produce a legitimate star (who wins the top prize) along the lines of RuPaul or the show will end up being a joke like Tyra's ANTM. You see Tyra's pressure to have a legitmate top model manifesting on the show by bringing abourd Andre and expecially this season by picking a host of girls with previous modeling experience. Eventually Drag Race has got to bring the goods or the ratings will drop, just like ANTM did.

I disagree on Ru rewarding looks over personality. Nina had 1000x the looks of Bebe and more than that over her on personality. I think Ru probably goes with gut feeling/taste. It's a personal decision and it's only entertainment. The importance of the show IMO is in the bigger picture.

Shangela is very talented, but if we're gonna play the game (it is a game afterall) she went fairly. I don't see Shangela as a Drag Superstar in the long run. I see DJ Pierce as a successful actor and host, who happens to do drag.

I don't think that it is a realistic goal to hope that any given winner would be (even ideally) as successful as Ru as a drag queen because even though it is on it's 3rd season this show, in a lot of ways is still way ahead of its time. Unlike Tyra's model status, Ru's iconic status is such an unusual thing in our culture. Who before him could claim such success in that field...Divine and Sylvester??

Just like RuPaul, right? I mean, after all, he made a big effort to take off the drag and attempt an acting career out of drag and makes it a point to spend half his/her time in man face.

And Nina, like Raj (and the second place winner from last year) are not traditional drag. They are more androgyist punk performers than drag and in the end, each time, Ru has rewarded the more traditional queen as the winner. Like I said, choosing looks before personality.

And don't tell me Ru isn't trying to make points with her decisions. Hell, the entire premise of Drag U is a practice in aftershow special moments. Yet it's still a show run by a cable net that needs to keep ratings and make a profit and like ANTM, if a bonafide star isn't eventually rewarded, people will get bored and move on. Even American Idol is starting to feel the effects of what happens when a talent show can't produce on its premise. Only a small group of people watch TV to be socially conscious and if a real star isn't crowned a winner, just like ANTM, the ratings will drop and the show canceled. And just what message will be sent then? That's how I took the whole Shangila returning play out this season.

But hey, I love to over analyse. wink

I am not saying they have to be as succesful but it is telling that Shangela (in face or not) has achieved a level within Hollywood that not even Ru was able to do and she didn't even make the final four.

Let's drop Shangela for a moment and look at Pandora. She had the comedic timing and talent and mainstream appeal to make it much farther (and if we want to get all socially concience), have a greater impact on pop culture than The Other Tyra who has dropped off the rader. Proof of this is Absolute not even running commercials for her yet running Pandora's every other minute on Logo. Eventually, the show is going to have to validate what it's sponsor (Absolute) and the audience wants....don't you think?

I disagree about Shangela. I don't think she's interesting. I think her Tina Turner was embarrassing. I think her nasty attitude is also pretty embarrassing.

I agree with you about Pandora, though. I thought Pandora was really funny and talented. And interesting.

In the case of Raja, I think Raja's looks are entirely cool. I loved the fantasy look she had - looked like ice cream or Candy Land. I don't give a shit that she cheated. It's not like the game has any integrity. They send the contestants backstage to get sloshed and shit talk each other. Cmon now.

Cmon now.

Now this is where you and I disagree. Shangela has good attitude, she's just not one to take any shit. Good for her I say and she's very entertaining. I've honestly enjoyed everything I've seen of her, even outside of Drag Race.

Raja on the other hand has a stank nasty ass attitude. No matter how entirely cool one looks on the outside, if they're ugly on the inside, it shows. Raja's ugliness has been showing since day one. At first, I thought it was just some dramatization for the show but that's not it because as time has gone on, that ugliness in him just keeps surfacing because it's quite real and not an act.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I don't see where Shangela has surpassed Ru in achievements.

Past winners YES (I even said that in my blog piece because I believe giving credit where it's due). I think he has taken his "moment" and is using it very smartly. I do expect we will see more from him. And while I think he's got an overall great attitude (like I could hang with him I think), he's not innocent of stirring the pot and causing drama under the guise of keepin it "real" or not taking bullshit. It's a reality show. This is what folk are supposed to do. But in no way has he already achieved more than Ru.

Past winners aside, just a comparison of Ru and Shangela, I stand by what I said about seeing Shangela as DJ Pierce, actor and host who happens to have a character named Shangela that is opening some doors for him at the moment thanks to what Ru laid down.

Whereas Ru appearing in man-face will always play a supporting role to his drag persona. He is a true (perhaps the only) Drag Superstar. Ru is the embodiment of Fierce Drag.
