Of course it can be. It isn't always, however. And it's all relative. There are all kinds of habits that affect our health, regardless of our weight.
The point the above ladies are trying to make is you can't judge the overall health of a person simply by looking at them. There are "skinny" folks who eat horribly and never exercise and smoke all the livelong day. There are overweight folks who are marathon runners who eat well. When I weighed 50 pounds more than I do today my blood pressure was great, my cholesterol & glucose levels were all normal and the only advice my doctor gave me at the time was to take in more calcium and vitamin D.
I am still considered roughly 20 pounds overweight (I need to lose 21 to get to the very tippy top of the "normal" range for my height, age and gender) and yet I exercise regularly and I'd wager to say I eat better than the vast majority of americans.

Why would you assume that when I made this comment I meant every woman, everywhere in the entire world?? And I think its very presumptious to assume that I'm voicing concerns about people's health in a fake way to have a dig at their looks; I'm not. I genuinely have friends and relvaitves that I have concerns over due to weight issues. Trying to help them change their ways for the better (and I'm not talking about turning them into rail thin stick insects, which is probably more unhealthy than being overweight) is an uphill struggle, and telling them that being overweight is ok isn't going to help them. I can only speak as I find, and when I see alot of people out and about where I live you can tell that some have weight issues that potentially dangerous. I'm all for bigging up the curvier, bigger, fitter woman...my missus is a size 14/16 and I love her for it, and she's perfectly healthy. I just wouldn't want other people I care about slipping into dangerous proportions. www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Oh, and don't take it personally, but sorry to disappoint you on the off-topic, I bet I'm fitter than you p*ssing contest... ...but I play rugby semi-professionally and I've run the London Marathon 3 out of the last 5 years (for the British Heart Foundation)....I don't profess to be a fitness guru by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm sure I could at least give you a run for your money, no pun intended! www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Ah, no. What people are saying is that being overweight (not obese) doesn't automatically mean that you have health issues.
And if fashion magazines are trying to eradicate fat people, it's not working - people are fatter than ever. I hate the argument that mags are making young girls too skinny, that's just not happening.

I agree.
It's the food that is so readily available that is making people fat. And what the average american household calls a heathy well balanced meal, is way over portioned and it's basically just shitty food.
Like seriously, not lately cuz I haven't been giving a fuck what I eat. COME ON!!!!!!!!! I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure

all this time i thought it was just me!!!
i have a seriously hard time shopppin for food for my self thank god my children are grown no daycare at least but anyway.. with them growning up..when we to the grocery..people around would hear them begging for stuff and just cuz they'd be askin for trees (broccoli) and salads.. and dont forget the carrots (sugar i know but still) and apples to MAKE applesauce with.. oh!! and i would ask if they wanted cookies or potato chips.. and they would say to me, but mom cant you just make us some cookies at home? in a line from my dream, I heard a voice and saw a silhouette in a chair..

But just because that food is out there it doesnt mean you have to buy it... YOU are in control of your children, Junk foods should only be a treat, moderation is always the key...
My kids would of LOVED to have a pop every nite with dinner, what did they get..Milk.. No foo foo chocolate or strawberry sugar loaded flavored crap either... They had a choice of milk or water...
Sure we had chips and stuff, but I made snacks like beef jerky, dried apples... If you spinkle the apples with a bit of cinnamon they are awesome! I too opted for homeade things that way I could control how much fat and sugar they had... And until they were a certain age they had to ask to get a snack, and if they didnt want to eat an apple, well then they werent very hungry were they!
~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~
this is a good part of the problem here..the cheaper food is not as good for you..if you're on a budget or using food stamps, etc. you're buying to get as much food as you can.. which sadly does not equate to good for you food as much as it should..
This pic was for another thread but it fits here too.
The origin of my appreciation for curves comes from my Mommy.
She was always thick but I always had the sexiest mom of my class
this she knows i believe.. what i heard was all that packaged EASY food is there and well.. pb&j already made??!!??!! in the cart.. if you're in a hurry or lazy or whatever it is that doesnt let you see what kind of short cuts those really are..you'll buy them the market is flooded with crap like this..no i dont buy that crap.. but as long as the next 2 or 3 people do..it's NOT going anywhere like all those frozen dinners overloaded with fat and sodium and even excess sugar... its so easy to put it in a microwave and heat it up.. much easier thaan COOKING a dinner that has better nutritional value.. i never had any of that fruit snack crap in my house and very rarely chips and sodas (pop) sorry ive been a bit southernized here while my little sister bought into the snacks and fruit things and little bags of chips etc. and her children the 2 oldest both at some point were over weight..the oldest in danger of developing diabetes.. when i heard that.. i had a talk with her..explained a few things you know.. shes not so bad with it now.. but het youngest is chubbin up and i worry bout that.. his father doesnt really let him play outside and he had any number of video games to play like father... im going over later today.. and might hang around long enough to see if he wants to go to the park and shoot hoops..
I don't consider any of those girls as overweight at all. The problem is, the image that the media has put out there as sexy since the 1990s is the sickly, beanpole look. They look like drug addicts and by today's standards, even beautiful women like Jacklyn Smith or Valeri Bertinelli would be considered overweight.
I find a big girl like Nell Carter to be beautiful also. When "Gimme A Break" really took off and she stopped wearing housedresses and started wearing more makeup, started doing her hair, and started wearing nice clothes, I found her to be absolutely beautiful both inside and out. With a woman, I see beauty as a strong woman who fixes herself up, dresses real nice, don't take no shit off no man, and carries herself with an attitude and confidence that she's the hottest thing walking regardless of whether she's considered beautiful by the masses or not. I also found that big girl on "Amen", the one that dressed nice and sang really well, to be beautiful. It's all about the attitude and self confidence. But then again, I'm gay though so what the hell do I know when it comes to women anyway because no matter how beautiful I may consider them, I'm not attracted to any of them sexually...not even a pretty thing like Halle Berry. . . . I'd like all of my loved ones to be around a bit longer instead of dying early, yes.
But honestly, I'm really not the type that suggests life changes to people as a habit. I very much believe in "live and let live" - even when I strongly disagree with the way others live. Anyway, where would that kind of inquiry begin and end? Asking all the smokers in my life to quit, all the fatties to lose weight, all the drinkers to go dry, all the compulsive exercisers to take it easy so they don't have a heart attack?
I understand what you're saying, but my answer is no, I wouldn't say that to a loved one - unless I was observing them engaging in truly reckless and risky behavior. If a friend or family member suddenly started eating 15 boxes of doughnuts a day or something, I might inquire as to whether everything was okay.
None taken. I find that a lot of people will say "hey, go take a walk!" And I'll be like, "I hike a mountain a few times a week, care to join?" And they're like...um....
So I see your point. I felt clumped into a category, as we solid chicks usually are. But I'm far fitter than the average slim person, so I take it quite seriously. I'm eye to eye with you now. I'm seeing where you are coming from.
For instance, my mom singled me out as a child. All I can remember is my mother throwing fat in a sentence when she'd had enough of me. Fat brat, fat ass, fat and lazy, fat and dumb. And I came from a big family. Table full of skinny kids and my chubby ass
My mom later told me she saw my weight as a reflection of her, and my chubby ass told the world that she had failed as a mother. Needless to say I developed a mean case of crash diets, bullemia, and anorexia as a little kid and into adulthood. So pointing things out can really backfire. And that shit cost me $3000 in some damn therapy as an adult!
