Personally I'm having expectations of a Justin Timberlake size comeback!

So you think it won't be close to big enough to justify the hype?

but what hype though? she's doing everything through her social media so far,it just seems to be working, people seem to really miss her and want this project to work.

A second Janet Jackson concert at Blaisdell Arena has been announced for Nov. 13, and Janet Jackson's Nov. 12 concert has sold out more than 24 hours before a reserved pre-sale window for Hawaii residents was to begin.
----- You can buy the tickets for the second show here:http://www.ticketmaster.c...CA0E5F3872 ---- JANET has performed twice before in Hawaii, both times at Aloha Stadium, in 1999 and 2002. Her 1999 concert still holds attendance record. The capacity for her show was expanded from the original capacity to meet the high ticket demand.

That's what's impressive. She's is often trending on twitter, localy and globaly, which is very unusal for a star of her age. Imagine what is going to happen when she start real promo. BTW, Kathy Ireland, kinda, confirmed this on Twitter. And she knows everything.

That's just it, Janet is generating her own hype instead of relying on a major label to do it for her and doing a great job of it. There's a genuine interest in her comeback and she's only creating more interest. That's not to say that nobody was asking for new music from JT but his promotion was done by his label and was typical industry marketing. All the hype he was getting didn't quite translate into the bombastic success that justified the sort of promo he was getting. JT pretty much came and went in 2013; for the supposed new King of Pop he sure disappeared rather quickly after his push.

LOL I meant commercially. But I think Janet will pull through for some reason. As long as it's not a bloated album she'll do good. But there is always that danger.

It all depends on how her tour performs. If her album sells well then that's just icing on the cake but even if it doesn't fly off shelves, critical acclaim works just as well because of Janet being a veteran artist and her winning the favor of critics for the album will go a longer way especially since her last few releases received mixed reviews at best.

With JT, he still had a successful tour and the album that brought him back to the dance in 20/20 Part 1 was received well critically and did well enough commercially, going platinum and being the highest selling album of 2013. Part 2, however seemed to kill his momentum as it wasn't as successful, selling less and garnering mixed to negative reviews from critics. Releasing Part 2 the same year as Part 1 was not a good idea in retrospect because he could have rode out the success of the previous album a little longer before dropping another. However, perhaps he already did because it seemed that the VMAs when he won the Vanguard award was him going the distance (him winning the award didn't really seem to help him) so Part 2 was released shortly thereafter but failed to capitalize and thus, outside of a mostly overlooked single in 2014 (it even went #1), JT was absent. Overexposure played a part in all this as it was an ally of the overcooked hype in which the industry may as well have come out and said "Ladies and gentlemen, meet the new Michael Jackson!" By normal standards, JT's comeback was a success but considering the circumstances, it was a disappointment.

...compared to Janet who has been gone from not just music but the public eye for as long as JT was absent from music in 2013 but is solely relying on social media to promote herself while she remains hidden for the most part and the mainstream media can only bark up the tree anxiously awaiting her to finally come down. A veteran act is arguably using social media better than today's acts. It's quite interesting and I'm loving it. Janet and her team are setting up the perfect situation in which the media is pursuing her instead of the other way around.

Arena tickets are so cheap! Madonna's charging like 3 times what Janet is. I wonder if this is going to be more of a stripped down affair in terms of production. hmmm

JT definitely threw Janet under the bus to save himself but let's not act like Janet wasn't in on any of it. The blame goes 50/50 here and both should have been aware of the possible repercussions and consequences of their actions. In retrospect, it's not a hundredth as big a deal as it was made out to be at the time and people should be over the whole thing yesterday but the only thing that wasn't consensual was the backlash.

So as not to derail the topic though, I was just drawing a parallel. Both acts have been absent from the music scene for 7 years (at least in terms of albums in JT's case) and while you have JT getting massive promotion via his label, Janet is trying to establish her own and therefore is doing the promoting herself and the way she's going about it is garnering her mainstream coverage anyway. She's also being marketed by her own merits unlike JT who was secretly/ not so secretly being marketed as this generation's MJ; Janet is marketing herself as Janet, her, herself, and she and is receiving widespread attention without even showing her face. Janet is arguably receiving just as much promotion as JT was in 2013 albeit naturally and without the overexposure and agenda.

Kind of doubt it since her last tour was a stripped down affair.

-

In spite of Lady M's high tickets prices, she also has more mouths to feed in return for her high production cost too. In other words, because of her 360 deal, she has to share a far more greater piece of the pie versus financing your own tour. Janet will probably gross more with this tour (regardless of ticket prices) than she has in any previous tours. Her profit margin could be huge. It's a high risk, but a high reward too if she pulls it off.

I recall almost getting sick in my stomach watching the Grammy's that year (that was my fault, I'll admit) and the much heralded,"RETURN TO THE GRAMMY STAGE" and the other announcement of "JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE'S RETURN TO MUSIC". I thought I was in a twilight zone or something. lol As if this guy just won an Oscar for best actor in a drama the year before. Geesh! confused

-

Oh yeah, and the lovefest provided by Jimmy Fallon was all too much for me. Hyperbole at its obvious worst.

Forbes: With 'Unbreakable' Presale Underway, Janet Jackson Tickets Nearing $200

In other words, Unbreakable tickets are almost 2x more expencive than MDNA tour tickets. If she sell out this leg and demand is high, her next tour or even her next leg might be as expencive as Madonna's. But Madonna sold out only few shows by now, and announced tour back in November. That's unusual. We'll see how will that turn out. Madonna also has much, much bigger stage than Janet, which means less audience in arenas too.

True. There are many factors. It's expected that every next tour will have higher prices. And after all, who knows what's Janet's plan? She has 2 theater shows in Chicago, and she has HUGE fan base there. So, she might give them arena show too in a next North America leg. She know what she's doing. And yeah, production will probably be cheaper than Madonna's, Janet don't really need all that to make a great show.

My tickets to Janet were 125 each, and my Madonna tickets were 360. Kind of ridiculous price diffrence. I did think it was odd that the Chicago shows are at the Chicago Theater again, yet most, if not all of the other shows are in arenas. That's one of the reasons I'm going to see her in Minneapolis. I don't want to feel cheated by a modified stage. Also, the Chicago tickets were 220.

It depends where are you from. In Toronto In some cities Janet's tickets are around 250

But I'm kinda sure this tour will end up being bigger than Rebel Heart. It will be long, long tour with many dates. This is only start.

The thing is... Janet DID apologize and acknowledged that she didnt mean to offend anyone. So IMHO she did acknowledge her role in what happened and took responsibility (whether she felt she did anything wrong or not). While Justin also apologized after the fact, he flat out blamed Janet for what happened and did not take responsibility for HIS role at all in what happened which was cowardly and backstabbing. confused

.

What was even more messed up was the fact that they were allegedly "friends" off stage well at least according to Janet .I would imagine they probably are not friends anymore. I know I wouldn't be..

I wasn't saying that Janet didn't take responsibility and apologize just that she wasn't innocent. She still committed the crime even if she later owned up to it otherwise there would have not been a reason to take responsibility in the first place.

I don't blame her for cutting ties with Justin though he burnt that bridge himself, he was a fairweather friend. It would be something if what goes around, goes around, goes around comes all the way back around and Janet ends up out-grossing the 20/20 Experience Tour. lol
