janet. did not sell anywhere in the neighborhood of 25 million. Sales are approximated at *about* 20 million, and I suspect that much is embellished. My guess is that that album sold about 6-8 million US and 16-18 million worldwide. Janet fans are notorious for trying to stack her numbers against what's actually been documented. I don't trust cyber space Stan's with sales figures.

Yessir! Grueling...Janet has even said on more than one occasion. How she wants a touring schedule like when Tina Turner toured. Tina use to have her tour dates spread out for time to rest in between shows. Doing it for fans or not! Touring is still very hard on the body and is very physically exhausting. You have to be in tip top shape to go on tour. Even Prince doesn't go on long drawn out touring schedules anymore....When you reach a certain level of success & age. It becomes about being comfortable. Not killing yourself! Even Janet's brother didn't like touring...

Like I said, that's all part of being a recording artist/entertainer lol It's part of the job. When you're a veteran artist, touring is your bread and butter. There won't be any more big hit records or multi-platinum album sales.Janet won't be able to rely on those things anymore.Yes,it's grueling but there are many artists and bands who are much older than Janet and they do it (The Rolling Stones, for example).Even Cher will be touring this year. And I have heard Janet say many times that she loves performing for her fans.

They are guaranteed to make millions each tour! But anyway she is too busy now working on her documentary, recording an album & being a wifey... biggrin

Amen. Nobody's "stacking her numbers" against anything. Fact is fact. Her BIG sellers have not been recertified. And it stands that those big sellers have likely sold much more than Wikipedia states.

Is she still doing that BEING T documentary about the transgendered community? I know she signed that Lionsgate film production deal a few years ago. Is that docu part of the deal?

I would think that Diamonds and Pearls would have sold over 10 mill by now. I think it sold like 7 million world wide first year of release. And Purple Rain sells about 100 thousand copies a year. I think Purple Rain needs an update on sales figures.

Janet lost Jam & Lewis which compensated for her weak vocals with banging tracks!

Janet's vocals was just as good on her last album "Discipline" without JJ&TL. Don't discredit her!!!

You make it sound like the beats masked her singing, but Jam & Lewis never overpowered her performance. She's a great singer, but Jam & Lewis VOCAL production is outstanding (see also, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill...) and nothing these new producers understand (harmony, stacking).

I don't know what Rodney Darkchild Jerkins usually gets for vocal performances from the acts he produces, but he usually ends up overpowering the singer.

I see Mariah Carey being obsessed with the art of background vocals mixed with her lead, and she sounds cool working with Jermaine Dupri.. but when Jermaine Dupri was on the boards with Janet, it was like he just wanted to re-do "Nasty" with very minimal vocal layers/effort.

All you need is some Rhythm Nation acapellas to understand the difference.

Her VOCAL tracks are better with Jam & Lewis too. They produce those too! Not just the beats!

Yes! JJ&TL(or Terry) are MASTERS at vocal arrangements. I like their work with Ralph,New Edition, Cherelle and of course Janet. Which I'm sure goes back to what they learned from Prince's extraordinary vocal layering skills(he is amazing at it). I'm not taking that away from them. But Janet has always done good vocal layering herself going back too her self titled first album..

Her continued sexualized promotion didn't help...its like..aiight Janet wr know u r hot can u do anything else? She didn't completely desert her adult fan base as her album's were still kind of adult oriented. By discipline you can just tell she was tired letting a foray of producers handle her output. I felt like she wasn't in control anymore.

Honestly I haven't felt emotion in her album's since all for you. Rest of the albums lacked personality

I always believe that the emerging sexuality in her personal life just carried over into her output musically and via her imagery.

I wish Justin would have took more responsibility for this! Even though everybody saw him rip it off. He should have declined his Grammy presentation. But I heard the reason why Janet didn't go is because they wanted her to apologize at the show. She refused and instead made a personal statement. This unfairly ruined her muziq career at that time.

the rolling stone article was kind of interesting actually. they state her "blacklisting" as fact. they also say that Damita Jo eventually went platinum several times over. glad powell from the FCC recants years later and acknowledges their overreaction and Justin's "pass"

btw, "kid melody" - Beyonce does have a stronger voice but i'm not conceding "better body" so easily. props to her but she can't dance as good as Janet and has still yet to produce anything socially conscious or genre bending. she's beYAWNce to me. Nipplegate is the primary reason, uneven albums duly noted tho
