Well, that's what I was saying...maybe I don't get out enough... lol

Perhaps it's more open and demonstrative but I'm not sure they actually screw around more than other folks.

There's a great deal of Caribbean influence where I live, to the point where it's almost the norm, so I guess I don't give it a second thought most of the time.

You should experience it though...it's wonderful.

I think that is true. On the other hand no woman will be topless on a beach like here in Europe and my boyfriend sees that as not okay. And anal sex is illegal in Trinidad as far as I know and considered a sin by most Rastas.

And the Caribbean culture is wonderful in many ways, I agree with that

Speaking of Jr Gong, did y'all know that he recently gave a lecture at the invitation of dr. Carolyn Cooper at the UWI?! (I love Dr. Cooper's work on dancehall) He spoke on dancehall and reggae culture in general.

I'll dig up the links in a bit. cool

They seem like they have good chemistry obvious (infatuation) but it seems like a Teenage fling to me, watch the clip.

This marriage is going to be annulled or over before 5 years...

Rohan is so immature which is what I gathered from the clip, no wonder Lauryn had to go through so much shit.. Leave a woman who is the mother of your FIVE kids that you been with for 15 years for a model you only known for 7 months : /

You know the beautiful thing about the Caribbean is that folks down there are so...cool, like nothing gets in y'all's way. I find in "my culture" in black America, we're too uptight sometimes.

That's what smooth was trying to say when that assumption was brought up in here. Like what sense does it make that a certain group of people in a different part of the world that act different in terms of personal actions? Americans are no better, you got a dude having 30 kids and not taking care of them here in the good ole U.S. of A. lol And they call it culture? Really? That's "culture"? No, screwing around is a generalization all over the world. nod It's just human nature.

He said that he found his culture was too uptight sometimes after saying that he liked Caribbean culture because it was laidback and cool. He did not say that every single Black American was uptight, unlike others here who made hasty generalizations about Caribbean culture. Also, being Caribbean or Black American is not a race. Those are nationalities.

While he did say SOMETIMES for black people and not all. He implied that ALL Caribbeans folks are more cool and laid back compared to black people sometime as to say they are more care free than black people and they never get up tight. That was clearly a generalization lol but Im not going to argue or go back and forth because Ive realize people intrepet things differently around here and its really no point.. if you dont think its a generalization so be it!

1. A) That post could've used several periods. lol

2. B) In regards to the bolded...perhaps that is true. Or perhaps I just find you dead wrong and instead of wanting to address that and actually debate it you chalk it up to me "standing up" for him, as if that makes what you said any less wrong (IMO). Perhaps instead of trying to insult or label me as coming to the rescue of Timmy, you could actually have a discussion with me. I saw your post, I thought it was wrong, and I challenged you. I also challenged nursev in this thread, and questioned a few other people a few posts ago. But I was just coming to the rescue of Timmy, right? wink

2.) I have NEVER said that at all in this thread and I never defended Nurv for her generalization comments AND I even agreed with your arguement towards her posts HOWEVER.... you made a post that was a generalization as well which is the only thing I wanted to point out, not to mention you implied all Carribeans are black when that is not true.

1) Of course it had nothing to do with the post, but neither did your "rescuing Timmy" point. I was just poking some fun. lol

But of course spelling and grammar aren't petty things. People tend to judge you based on how you type and present yourself online - if you can barely write a legible sentence then you will not be taken as serious as one who can write extremely well. At least on discussions like the one we are having now.

But I digress.

2) There is nothing in my post that says your whole post was centered around me defending Timmy.

I also didn't say anything about arguing, but I'll leave that alone.

In regards to your statement about "open minds" - what do you mean? lol Many times you have stated that you very much defend your opinions and many times I have seen you argue with people whenever you have a difference in opinion with them - and many times you were not willing to change your mind or see it from another viewpoint. No offense but you haven't actually been the greatest proponent of the "open minded" perspective - many of us on here haven't.

We all know that everyone makes generalizations. The point is that it is wrong to make a generalization based of insufficient evidence and proclaim it's true even when you know that you have not met every said person that you are generalizing. That's a fallacy known as a hasty generalization - which is unfortunately running amok in this thread.

1) The fact that you would bring it up when all your posts arent grammer or english error free and neither is everyone elses here that post is funny though

I disagree with that being the primary focus on online debates. This isnt english class. This is just a message board and yes I do think its petty that NOW you would bring that up when it has nothing to do with what we are talking about. Yea the Timmy84 comment had nothing to do with the primary point I was making but I mentioned it, you on the other hand are trying to make a point with the grammer bit. This is a message board :/ If it means alot to people to be 100 percent grammer free in their posts than by all means do it but it IS petty to try to downplay an arguement over periods, wrong wording etc when this is a message board and naturally and obviously people are going to make grammer mistakes

2) Smooth you stated, that I chalked your post up as "standing up" for Timmy84 which is funny since I mentioned it in ONE sentence briefly in that last post. I did not focus on that theme through out my entire post. So I am not sure how I could chalk up anything when in my post I just wanted to clarify why I thought Timmy84 made a generlization in that comment.

And neither are you when it comes to the "open mind" department and in accepting differences in opinion.

You dont have to read out my resume because I gladly say what I have done on here. I do argue with people on here and I am no saint when it comes to generalizations which I mentioned in my last post so what point are you trying to make now? For the most I am open minded when it comes to music ( you can think what you want to think on that I really could care less) but if its something that I dont like (AFTER listening or looking at it to form the opinion) than I simply dont like it.

You and others seem to think everyone has to LIKE EVERYTHING and if they dont then their not open minded which is childish and immature thinking but it is what it is. Once again, people look at things differently.

If we all know people make generalizations, than why are we all acting like we dont do them? I simply just commented on what I thought was a generalization which is was and if Timmy84 didnt mean it as that then it could have been worded better

It's not the primary focus. I never said that. But it does have an impact on people. It's not petty for me to say that it needed a few periods. Because it does. Does it really mean anything in context of this debate? No, not really. It was a point I brought up, which is exactly why I said that it was me poking fun.

2) Smooth you stated, that I chalked your post up as "standing up" for Timmy84 which is funny since I mentioned it in ONE sentence briefly in that last post.

But you still did chalk it up to me defending Timmy. Chalk it up does not mean that's what your entire post was about. It means that you said me defending Timmy was the reason for my posts, which it was not.

I did not focus on that theme through out my entire post. So I am not sure how I could chalk up anything when in my post I just wanted to clarify why I thought Timmy84 made a generlization in that comment.

Read above.

And neither are you when it comes to the "open mind" department and in accepting differences in opinion.

Which is why I added the last sentence.

You dont have to read out my resume because I gladly say what I have done on here. I do argue with people on here and I am no saint when it comes to generalizations which I mentioned in my last post so what point are you trying to make now?

The point I was making is that it was judgemental and inaccurate for you to say that you are done talking to non-open minded people when you are not one of them yourself.

For the most I am open minded when it comes to music

Ok.

( you can think what you want to think on that I really could care less)

How open minded. lol

but if its something that I dont like (AFTER listening or looking at it to form the opinion) than I simply dont like it.

You and others seem to think everyone has to LIKE EVERYTHING and if they dont then their not open minded which is childish and immature thinking but it is what it is. Once again, people look at things differently.

When have I ever said that? If you are going to make incorrect and baseless statements, at least try to have evidence or quotes backing up your statements. biggrin

And childish and immature? lol

Keeping my mouth shut and moving on.

If we all know people make generalizations, than why are we all acting like we dont do them?

Read my former post again.

Does it really mean anything in context of this debate? No, not really. It was a point I brought up, which is exactly why I said that it was me poking fun.

It has an impact on people who REALLY REALLY care about it. I thought it was petty as in you trying to downplay the arguement. It is the first time you have EVER mentioned anything like that in a discussion well with me. I took it as you trying to be a smart ass not as you really caring about the structured of the post. I know you were poking fun but I still stated what I felt about it.

But you still did chalk it up to me defending Timmy. Chalk it up does not mean that's what your entire post was about. It means that you said me defending Timmy was the reason for my posts, which it was not.

I didnt say ALL your posts, I said some of them because in that particular post Timmy84 clearly made a generalization comment. Its not the end of the world but it was something that I felt the need to point since you guys have been debating for about two pages the importance of not over generalizing. wink

The point I was making is that it was judgemental and inaccurate for you to say that you are done talking to non-open minded people when you are not one of them yourself.

Even AFTER I mentioned that Timmy84 referred to ALL Carribean folks as being care free and laidback you still didnt find anything wrong with that when that is clearly a generalization. You still argued that Timmy84 was not referring to ALL black people when the point is very bigger than that but okay.

For the most I am open minded when it comes to music

How open minded. lol

I dont feel the need to prove what I am or am not when it comes to what I listen to and post on a message board that I post a variety of music all the time on. I do have my favorites but I do try to post different things as well. I love listening to new things to but if AFTER listening to something and I formulate that Im not feeling it, that Im just not feeling it.

I think you need to go look up what it means to not be open minded. In fact, there are alot of people on here who are like that.

but if its something that I dont like (AFTER listening or looking at it to form the opinion) than I simply dont like it.

You and others seem to think everyone has to LIKE EVERYTHING and if they dont then their not open minded which is childish and immature thinking but it is what it is. Once again, people look at things differently.

You definitly have implied that alot in these debates but I dont feel like going back to different pages to look for them and why dont you follow what you preach in posting these quotes where Im not open minded when it comes to music... To be honest, I dont care about it but since you feel its important you should start out practicing what you preach. It seems you feel to label me and others as this because you think were not open minded to the music YOU think is so great.

And childish and immature? lol

So now you want to move on? lol

It is immature to label someone as having a lack to be open minded in music just because they dont like the particular music you like. I agree it is when they choose to shun it and label it as something before listening to it BUT after they have listened to... yea that is childish lol FYI I didnt call you childish but that way of thinking is...

Answers in bold.

Well if you really want to nitpick...:

Thats horrible sad

I did not kno Lauryn Hill is ONLY 28?????? I thought she was like 32 or 33.... I LOVE BOB MARLY GOD KNOWS I DO but his sons are JUST LIKE HIM in the women department... I know their Rastas but come on man rap it up if your not trying to marry. I think Rohan was just using Lauryn because he thought she was a piece of ass .... I hope Lauryn can move forward....

lol

You have a weird interpretation SmoothCriminal or your just not aware that all Rastas arent ALL Caribbean. Rasta is a way of life and some consider it to be a religion but with that being said not ALL are Carribean.

In that post, Rastas is not referring to Carribeans... and as apart of the Rastafarian religion they dont believe in wearing condoms while having sex.

I am aware not ALL Rastas follow the religion to the T but it appears the Marleys do or at least try to since they have alot of chilidren similiar to their father who did follow the religion to the T.

NO WHERE in that post suggest ALL Carribeans like to FUCK all the time being that NOT ALL Rastas are Carribeans which is why you feel that is a generalization but it isnt lol

There are black Rastas

There are white Rastas and so forth...
