Sorry ur offended, but it is what it is. Hate it or love it. I lived it for ten years and what I saw and know is that seeing women as sex objects is apart of the culture. The young and old men think like that. Yes Jamaican culture is great, but that sex thing or mentality they have about is just the way it is. Just stating what I lived.

Are you sure it's that general though? I only heard that certain Rastas did it, I don't know if it's overall in "Jamaican culture".

Let me put it this way, my ex has four kids and three baby mamas. He never took time with the three boys only the last girl. My son is the third child. Even the way some of the younger women dress is purely sexual. And yes like every other culture not everybodys mind set is like that, but the majority of the men are that way. Every one I've ever met was. Folks can be offended, but I'm speaking from my own experience.

Rohan is a scrub supermo, but if #6 had a prayer of being his, he'da claimed it. Those Marleys are obsessed w/ Nesta's descendants and would never deny one if they thought it had the tiniest chance of being a Marley.

Keep in mind that Rohan was raised primarily by Miss Ciddy Booker (his grandmother) and Rita was very involved there too. Rita is VERY involved w/ all of Bob's kids and his sons honor her like she's their mother, even if she isn't. Both of those women have/had very diff values about "outside kids" than many people. IMHO, if Rita thought the 6th were Rohan's, she'da claimed it even if HE didn't.

Those Marleys have their own way of rollin y'all. lol

*I* hear ya! wink It's no coinky dink that the term "babymama/babymother" and "babydaddy/babyfather" is an import from the Caribbean. So too were the things most boldly sexual in hip hop. They were imports from da dancehall (and even then we are VERY conservative compared to the original). IOW, "slackness" is very real....they ain't just talkin' on records! lol

Tho I'm Black American, Caribbean culture interests me. What you're saying is very much apart of the cultural landscape on many of the islands, esp Jamaica.

If anybody doubts what nursev is saying, go to YT and look up "passa passa" eek cool That's how tons of Jamaicans of all classes get down every weekend! lol

Maybe it's easy to see what happened to Lauryn; She couldn't live up to her image. Her songs were really smart, but in her real life she couldn't even resist a married man or fight the temptation to have kids with him out of wedlock. Now she put that image out to the world and she was being praised for it.

Plus 4-5-6 kids is enough to drive any sane person crazy, just sayin...

She had about three kids when they started branded her crazy and that was right before she did that Unplugged special.

Thank u for this and every word is true. I remember going to reggae parties back in the 90's and hearing the "babymama" term in dancehall songs and after that everybody was saying it-so u are correct. I also witnessed a lot of things occur at those parties that folks wouldn't believe lol being overtly sexual is apart of the culture. I know-I lived it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Jamaican men are bad. I'm saying that mentality of wanting to fuck lol every thing moving is just what they do lol Folks can say I'm wrong, but I'm not lol

I still feel empowered by her music and although she has her shortcomings in her personal life I still love her and find her to be inspiring. No one is perfect and just because she got caught up doesnt mean those things she sung about she didnt feel I believe her when she sung Doo Wop she herself just got caught up. Men are womanizers and are users and just wana fuck. She probably thought the relationship was going to go somewhere.

biggrin this!!!

I can't really describe it, but even with that one album Lauryn made such an impact on me. Luckilly she has some amazing accoustic stuff avaliable unreleased on youtube & the unplugged album.

When Lauryn wrote & sang i believed that shit lol , Lauryn could sound intimadting when raping & than go to this angelic voice. So it's like she would rap & preach to you, than would pull the feelings on ya lol

I wish artists understood that their true fans and fans of music in general can separate them from their music. The image stuff is just out there for teenyboppers and other gullible people to draw them into buying, but the people who are interested in the music/message tend to go deeper than this, IMHO.

I've seen too many music people crash and burn trying to live up to some fake image that it just burns me up.
