I forgot she used to look like that . I think the fact that she spit, grabbed her crouch & the whole bit afterwards really just took it to another level. If she hadn't have done that, than afterwards she could've said well WHY DID they choose me anyway and the joke could've been on us. I mean who's idea was it anyway?! No, it's true Whitney's superbowl national anthem was pre-recorded just like a lot of others. I think Kelly's was this year and Jordin Sparks for sure back in 2008. But the amazing thing is Whitney did that in only one take. And she was technically singing even though the mike wasn't turned on.

Exactly why I haven't been a fan of hers. I like a few of her songs from back in the day, but she's always been a studio singer IMO.

Mary J. has a very limited range; it would be an understatement to say this particular song is clearly out of her range.

Then you tell it to the officials of the Super Bowl from back then. She sang live there too but her microphone was intentionally off. Apparently the song had been recorded as a measure just in case Whitney had throat problems.

I'm surprised Marvin's people didn't do what Whitney's did and had the song released as a single. But I guess they were different times and Whitney's was symbolic to the Gulf War then.
