Yeah but it seems like they told him out of the blue. To me if I was going to someone's funeral, least call me to let me know how many people I can bring along. It seemed like they told Bobby when he got there.

They just don't like him and the media ganging up on him too. You don't have to like him but still he should be allowed to attend. And I agree they should have said something to him before but they also are not fond of him in general. I always saw their relationship two-sided I never put blame on one person in that relationship.

Exactly. It's a damn shame. And whatever with Ray J... and they talk about Bobby, Bobby at least kissed her casket and left but Ray gotta put on the "Lord Jesus no" theatrics. bored2

Yes, I thought the church pastor is usually responsible, so I thought he would have ended this, specially since he was looking so bored throughout, I mean surely if he is a pastor of the church, the guy can't be a wimp, so this didn't make sense to me, moreso after I saw the marvin pastor play the piano and begin to sing in the end. LOL!

This is all new to me, and if people are sitting just up there, I'd have thought they are of some religous authority, but I guess i am wrong.

Kim? Isn't this the same lady that Whitney sang a song together on stage 2 days before she died?

The Winans family was not the pastor in the end, was it?

Why did the other pastor not finish this, if he was the pastor of the church? Sorry, I'm just trying to make sense of this gospel black church ceremony. wink

I thought she was singing with someone else and that Kim was there with them? Not sure on that.

Marvin Winan was a singer before becoming a minister. I could be wrong on that. He was singing after he spoke.

The pastor of the church never got the chance. Not a slight, just the way it worked out. In another situation, (Sunday, non televised service) after the pastor and choir finished the he would have let the pastor of the church do open the door of the church, do an appeal, pray and dismiss.

But no slight in this situation.

When Bobby was invited to the service, did he ask if it was okay to have X number of people seated next to him in the family section? Usually the seating arrangement is planned ahead of time.

I'm sorry, I think he should have stayed even if his brother/kids/fiancee could not sit next to him (although I would hope they would have allowed one person next to him). He's not the one running the show, therefore he shouldn't have assumed that he could have brought that many people without getting advance permission.

As for Aretha, they don't call her a diva for nuthin'. Hell they even made a commercial about it.

I've got tickets for tonight's New Edition concert, it will be interesting to say the least.

My biggest question is did any of those stars that the media said was gonna be there actually showed up? Like Bowie, Elton and 'em? I thought it kinda odd that they were assumed to attend Whitney's and not attend Don's since they were both on Soul Train. I also heard Janet and Jermaine was supposed to attend but I guess that was untrue too.

Even the whole week leading up to the funeral, everywhere I go I hear people blaming Bobby for absolutely everything, I mean from the supermarket to my job to the beauty parlor.

At the service I think he finally got upset at being asked to move three times and probably said forget it at that point.

That's what I took from it too. And it ain't like he don't know how the media is. He know it. That's why he and the media have had a hard time with each other. He knew Whitney wouldn't have agreed to it either. All them times she was standing up for Bobby... but people like to think it was because she was too drugged up to "see what kind of guy he is". Fuck outta here with that!

According to the plans each person with an invitation understood the invitation stated plus 2. Bobby Brown brought 9 people with him and attempted to sit in the front row with he and the nine.

He is not a member of the Houston/Drinkard family, so the ushers attempted to accomodate his extra folks, but he wanted all of them to sit together in the front row - not happening. Let us not forget he has not been integral in Bobbi Khristina's lifer a long while. Bobby Brown is married with a new wife and family , he needs to get over it. He has not been a good daddy to any of the bastard kids he fathererd, so let's be real, what has changed?

Didn't watch the funeral but I do want to comment:

From the pictures I saw of Bobby and his "entourage", it was actually Bobby's family. Bobby from what I can tell didn't look pissed, he's obviously still in grief and he probably agreed to walk out if Cissy felt uncomfortable with his family being there.

We don't really know the full details. Of course CNN, every other news outlet and the tabloids are having a field day saying it was Bobby's "boys" when it really wasn't. Bobby was with his brother, his own children (Bobbi's stepsiblings), and his fiancee/mother of his two (I think)-year-old son.

As for Al and Jesse... I washed my hands of these fake ass preachers/"activists" years ago. bored2 Of course they're always trying to be the "star" of the show like they did at Michael's funeral (and James'). But apparently Jesse didn't speak up lol I don't recall Al speaking up either and it seemed Marvin Winans was showing out the entire time so there was no need for Jesse and Al to be there.

Aretha cancelling her appearance is actually kinda telling. Who knows if it was because she couldn't break away from her schedule or she wasn't so brokenhearted that she couldn't sing at the funeral. Her people claim she was "exhausted". neutral

As for Clive Davis... fuck him.

My heart does go out to Cissy and Bobbi though. They got a long road to climb. Cissy has had to deal with a lot though. Her ex-husband's death, her cousin Dee Dee dying, now Whitney. And Bobbi, Lord watch over that child...

Right. Even closed casket, funerals just... why would I wanna attend and if it's open funeral, I wouldn't wanna see someone's dead body, I'd like to remember them when they were alive. I was almost physically sick looking at James'. Al Sharpton's cooning ass talking about "see James Brown for $5 dollars" (OK he didn't say it like that but I didn't like the fact that he hoisted James like a fucking sideshow).

Seems to me that accommodations should have been made for ALL of Bobby's children. At least the ones he had before he married Whitney. She was their step-mother for 15+ years.

Exactly my point. Even with that show, it did show that Whitney really loved Bobby's children as if they were her on. She often talked about having more children but couldn't because of miscarriages.

Hi Babynoz,

Rev. Jackson was sitting behind, we could hardly see his face. Who were the people left and right to him? Was this his family?

Why are they all Winans? I thought this is a family name?

I also wanna know who this blonde woman sitting by the piano was, what's her role in a set up like this?

The singer Whitney sang with before she died is R&B/Gospel singer Kelly Price, also a close friend as is Rev. Kim Burrell.

Marvin Winans is an award winning Gospel composer and singer who was formerly part of the popular Gospel Quartet, "The Winans", and is also (most importantly) a pastor. Musically speaking, before he was called to pastoral ministry, he was quite famous for writing contemporary Gospel hits (for his family members as well as other artists), and is often credited with helping to shape the genre.

Sorry if Aretha's statement was already posted but here we go (free2befreeda posted the news column of her saying this):

"Regretfully, I am so sorry that I was unable to be with you at Whitney's service today. I had every intention of being there. But unfortunately I had terrible leg spasms and locked leg muscles until 4:00AM this morning following my concert last night, which I've been having for the last few days. I feel it necessary and very important to stay off my leg today as much as possible until concert time this evening. My heart goes out to my dear friend Cissy, Dionne, Bobbi Kristina and the rest of the family. May God keep them all."

The funeral was very beautiful and emotional... I AM SOOOO glad they decided to hold it at her home church. The Preacher was on point and so glad he took it back way old school with his sermon... no hollywood, lights camera about it just good ol church.... and that sermon was exactly what I needed. It was very emotional and I thought it was conducted in a good fashion.

I dont know what was the confusion with Bobby trying to attend the service. Did they ask him to leave? Thats a mess....
