I agree that Beyonce had THE performance of the night. Her singing and dancing were on point. As for Bey being a role model, SHE IS. I have never seen this woman do anything that was not classy. On stage, her dances are sexy, but NOT pornographic. I have never seen her simulate oral sex, tie men to a board, or do anything else that was unclassy. I still don't get how people can say that she is not a role model. Can you name any other female singer or star of Bey's magnitude who is more of a role model than she is. IMO, all of this talk is jealousy on some people's part. What else does she have to do to prove her talent? She is an exceptional performer, she is great LIVE, she CAN sing. Her concerts are unbelievable and EVERYTIME that she performs on TV, she never fails to amaze me with her professionalism, energy and entertainment value. BTW, I am not one of these "stans" or fanatics of Beyonce, I just think that she deserves the awards and accolades that she gets. She IS talented. We are not talking about someone who can't sing, dance or entertain. Let's give credit where it is due and Beyonce deserves to be recognized for what she has achieved AND for her TALENT and HARD WORK.

!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I find it real damn funny that they'll sit up here and praise Janet, then turn around and talk about how Beyoncé isn't a role model as if she's the one singing in no uncertain terms about getting fucked and tying people up and riding them on stage.

You're forgetting one thing. Janet became the icon that she is WITHOUT showing an ounce of skin. It wasn't until later on that she became comfortable enough in her own skin to sing about sex and show a little flesh.

The only problem with your statrment is that it was a CONTRIVED plan for Janet to reveal "a little skin at a time" for her IMAGE. If you notice, Janet did just that. She revealed a "little at a time". This was all PLANNED. However, you are correct. Janet did become an icon without revealing skin. Beyonce also became an icon without resorting to cheap tricks on stage. Beyonce did it with talent. She can sing. She can dance. Her concerts are wonderful and she is a great entertainer. Again, let's give credit where credit is due.

I'm not taking anything away from Beyonce with my statement, but people throw "icon" around too loosely these days. Beyonce is well on her way to being in that league, but let's give it another decade before we use that word. Is she a pop phenomenon? Sure. An amazing performer? You bet. But she's not an icon...yet. And, when Janet started doing the "bring a guy onstage" thing, it was at a time in her career when "cheap tricks" weren't even necessary. She did it as a fun, new exciting way to spice up her live show and illustrate how comfortable she had become in her own sexuality.

THIS!

Beyonce is a hell of an entertainer but as some stated somewhere in one of these threads, Beyonce doesn't have the MUSICAL CATALOGUE of an "Icon" .. Sure she can grasp anyone watching her on stage, but her music does nothing

The hype over this is killing me.

It was a great performance. Her interaction with the screen was dope for the way they stayed in sync with each other. But once the screen portion was done, it was the same thing we've seen numerous times from numerous performers: an army of dancers on the stage. Nothing groundbreaking there, especially considering the choreography at that point was pretty basic.

She's an excellent entertainer and definitely talented. But she lacks a proper catalog to be considered a true legend. As stated above, she has been chosen to be an icon/legend even if the audience is whispering otherwise. In fact the performance was an excellent indicator of the state of the industry right now. She's partially on top by virtue of the lack of balance in this industry. She has no competition. She was the best performance of the evening, but when you're sharing the stage with:

Rihanna "I don't know any man that can refuse this pussy...Pussy, Pussy, pus-pus-pus-pus Puuussssyy..."?
Britney "I retired a looooooooong time ago, I'm just here for the snacks" Spears?
Will.I.Am and the "Even I know we're on some bullshit" Black Eyed Peas?
And "I can't believe I got into this party! Fuck it, I'mma wild out til I get spotted by security" Kesha??

It ain't that hard.

WOW this was so well said. CO SIGN.

I wish people would just take their blinders off and acknowledge this and stop with the bull..

Beyonce is an talented singer and can put on a show sometimes (even though Im personally am not that all impressed.. this billboards performance for example) HOWEVER, just because she can do those two things does not autormatically make her a icon.

For one thing all her music is shit she has yet to make one classic. She has contributed no innovations or originality to the music industry, just recycled ideas and concepts. She follows the same model off of previous REAL legends who exactly changed the industry BUT she has yet to exactly contribute to it. She does not step or think outside the box in terms of changing the game and making an impact. She stays safe and gives the masses what it wants instead of staying true to her talent, she chooses to waste it on crap.

I dont care how many awards this woman receives. I do not care how well she sings or can put on a show. I do not care if she is a BIG star today.

She will NEVER be a legend.. period.

She will never be mentioned and does not deserves to be mention in the same sentence of REAL LEGENDS and geniuses who exactly impacted music...

clapping clapping clapping clapping

Although I disagree with the 'talented singer' (as in she sounds like everyone else) and 'great performance' part. If it's copied it's not great. It's just a copy. shrug
