Anyway, relating to Aretha since I didn't wanna spam, here's my favorite Ree song of the moment from '75:

Ha, the stuff you find on YouTube.

more like fantasizing that anyone would even buy into Halle as Aretha

I remembered when Ree first brought up the thing that she wanted Halle to play her. I think this was around 2009. She was talking about it then, like that was her dream to get Halle to play her. If she was looking for someone to win an Oscar for playing her, I can kinda see and again, Diana Ross played Billie Holiday or a fascimile of Billie and won praise but then again, I question whether "Lady Sings the Blues" was really about Billie. It seemed more like Diana's story if she was reincarnated as a jazz legend. So then again I can't see how Halle would do it.

Aretha ought to set her sights on Precious and then work her way down the scale if she wants this to be anything close to realistic.

I'm still shaking my head more that she wanted Terence Howard to play Smokey Robinson.

I think she just wants just wants someone considered beautiful to play her. Because it just doesn't make sense. There are far more worthy actresses who could really deliver with this role.

You know I hate to speculate what was fucking with Aretha all this time but I can imagine her feeling unworthy because of her looks. Remember how she tried to be all glamorous and thin in the mid-to-late 1970s? I do feel she may have had some issues with her looks as well as her weight. Some deep problems. Why else would Aretha just pick Halle out of the group of talented actresses to nab what could be one of the biggest real-life roles any actress could pick.
I just don't think the film will be made, at least while Aretha is still around to smell the roses and the coffee.

Jennifer Hudson can probably do good to play Aretha.

Halle dont want nothing to do with it so.....so like Wendy suggested maybe she should set her sights on J-hudson She could do it.

As long as Jennifer been popular, everyone has been saying that. Hell during that part where she's trying to regroup after she got kicked off the Dreams, Effie sure as hell looked like Ms. Franklin, circa 1970-1971.

She did. | |

Am I the only one that thinks she'd be a perfect fit?
Look closely at their faces. I'm not joking.

Even if I compared Aretha's 1961 face build-up (and I believe that pic of Aretha was from 1965) to Halle's, I don't think they match. [Edited 1/26/11 20:48pm]

Pic circa 1967...but There is no make sense of Halle Berry, a bi-racial woman, playing Aretha Franklin. Berry is souless and cluless as to Franklin's countryfied soulful ghetto Detroit demeanor. Music Royalty in Motion

Oh OK, I almost wanted to say 1967 but she kinda looked like that in '65 too.

Well, Sidney Poitier looks nothing like Thurgood Marshall, nor does Denzel Washington & Malcolm X or Lawrence Hilton Jacobs & Joe Jackson either. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

They look just alike. Same mannerisms and everything. Denzel's just a little bit darker.

Not to me they don't and neither does Angela Bassett & Tina Turner. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Diana Ross sure as hell won't be mistaken for Billie Holiday.

Paul Mooney said that Meryl Streep should play Harriet Tubman. She's just that good.

Why not just hold auditions for unknown actresses to play her? Why does every film have to be made by some major accomplished star these days? I'm sure they could find someone that looks more like her that way and also give a new actress a break into show business at the same time. Andy is a four letter word.
