hmmm I can't see Whitney playing Aretha. But I think that maybe, just maybe,Mary J.Blige could pull it off boxed

If Mary can't play (or won't be able to play) Nina Simone, what makes anyone think she can get on Aretha's good graces? lol Remember she basically caterwauled "Natural Woman" in FRONT of Aretha! Look at her reaction to her after she hit that cat note. Aretha was like confused lol Watch her expression if you don't know what I mean. lol

lol

But Lady Sings the Blues was still awesome, in my little opinion. Looking back it seems like they really followed a formula similar to The Rose, where the character of the film was based on a historical figure, but were ill advised and called the movie a biography. Diana and Bette were each so fuckin' awesome in those movies when you were able to seperate their characters from the accuracy of the historic elements. They could have made a great buddy movie with those two characters. "Roadtrip, girl?"

.

"The Rose" for one didn't hide the fact that they were making a movie based on a legend.

The problem with "Lady Sings the Blues" was they try to make it seem like they were really discussing Billie Holiday.

Do you think that they should have promoted the movie as "loosely based on the life of Billie Holliday"?

Hmmmmmmmmmm...there is a lot of it out there. I offer that Aretha Franklin will never fess up to the dirt. Some of it is wayyyyyy to painful I am sure. There are church folks in Detroit, Buffalo and Memphis that know the dealio and I am sure once Miss Franklin passes - the shi+ will hit the fan.

As talented as she is, I feel sorry for her. To have amassed 60 million dollars, Grammys, AMA, Presidential honors, RIAA gold and platinum plaques and worldwide acclaim - she still remains, as Jerry Wexler syas, "A lady of mysterious sorrow". I am sure the overeating is a crutch for deep-rooted inner turmoil. She trusts no one and in her 69th year of life, she still has very fractured relationships with all 4 of her sons.

One in a mental institution - a ward of the state. Another one drugged out and set her house on fire. One was give away to his father as part of the divorce settlement in 1969. The final one has been arrested for cocaine possesion.

Poor Aretha.

Well that's because no one ain't got no damn sense in Hollywood! If I wanted to make a film about the Queen of Soul and the Queen of Pop/Soul happened to be an actress I sure as hell wouldn't look no further. Whitney is one of the greatest singers evah and she's a very underrated actress too. This could be her Oscar winning role if those goddamn haters would give her a chance!

Aretha won't allow it.

Did Auntie Ree have a falling out with Nippy? I know she bitched about Miss Cissy in her book. Don't tell me she been goin' after Whitney also. Its a damn shame, Whitney has the acting talent, the star power, and gorgeous looks to make the pic truly worthy of the Queen. And on top of all that she can SANG like no one else.

Maybe Ree Ree want to think about Brandy. Girlfriend can act, sang, look good, and light up the screen. Or if Ree wanna go the lipsync route, Raven Symone should get it. Miss Raven is fierce!!!!

I just think Aretha don't want Whitney to play her. Even though she did say other actresses were offered the role. She obviously wanted Halle for physical reasons.
