I'd probably pick these 12, in no particular order. It's a mix of who I think is important and who I think is amazing.
Chuck Berry
The Velvet Underground
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Bob Dylan
James Brown
Jimi Hendrix
David Bowie
Stevie Wonder
Prince
Madonna
Björk
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you! |

I feel like they do these kinds of lists all the time and it's always the same. The Beatles or Elvis at #1. Wouldn't you feel the need to shake it up at least once? But I was surprised that they've ranked James Brown and Stevie pretty high, for once. |

12. David Bowie
11. Bob Marley
10. Stevie Wonder
9. James Brown
8. Elvis Presley
7. Prince
6. Jimi Hendrix
5. Bob Dylan
4. The Rolling Stones
3. Led Zepplin
2. Michael Jackson
1. The Beatles
Kind of a weird list with MJ so high. and Bob Marley on there at all. I suppose they just compiled people's FAVORITES, with little regard to impact, influence, etc. "does my cock look fat in these jeans?" |

Yeah, this is pretty close to right on.
Only two complaint...Prince should not be ranked higher than James.
And MJ at #2?

Where I agreed with VH1 the most was the Top 12 or Top 10, whichever you want to look at it. That's why I posted it. Even if I'm not a full out fan of them, even if I may not agree with the specific order I can understand why they're all there. |

Well, besides the obvious, as time moves on and the baby boomers start to retire or pass this list will continue to change as it already has. MJ is up a lot higher than he was last time and this version of the list includes hip hop artists. As time goes on many older acts will start to climb down the list as evidenced by the fact that Elvis is already not in the top 5 as they usually place him somewhere in there. If VH1 continues to exist in 20-30 years from now, this list will make an even bigger shift. This is what happens as evidenced in that pop icons thread. |

That's a disaster! Justin Timberlake is more important than Buddy Holly? And he and Coldplay are better than Otis Redding? And Björk is nowhere to be found?
