Well, Sidney Poitier looks nothing like Thurgood Marshall, nor does Denzel Washington & Malcolm X or Lawrence Hilton Jacobs & Joe Jackson either. lol

Diana Ross sure as hell won't be mistaken for Billie Holiday. lol

There was a rumor in the early 1990's that Danny DeVito was going to direct a big screen remake of the 70's cop show Get Christie Love with Whitney Houston playing Christie. lol Young Whitney does resemble Teresa Graves in the face, but not the body. razz

Aretha is making herself look like a straight fool. If my Uncle Teddy was still alive, he would be fixing to say something about this. Something I couldn't repeat on this board, that's for sure.

Oh yes, Uncle Teddy after a fifth of something "to make my dick hair stand on end", most probably either Wild Turkey or Old Grandad, would let loose with some comments that would make Red Foxx blush.

I just remembered this...

When there was early talk about an Aretha Franklin film, Halle wasn't the first one that was thought of... it was probably a rumor but it was on some Detroit news websites that Karen Clark Sheard (of the Clark Sisters) was gonna be the one to play Aretha... she and Karen apparently have a duet together on Aretha's yet-to-be-released new album.

Actually Karen Clarke -Sheard was signed on to play one of The Clara Ward Singers, as was LaShun Pace.

IMHO, she could perhaps need as many as 3 or 4 Arethas based on her age and size shifts. Mo'Nique could play Aretha, they both are divas, bitchy and ghettocountryfied - since no real singing is required,

Pic circa 1967...but There is no make sense of Halle Berry, a bi-racial woman, playing Aretha Franklin. Berry is souless and cluless as to Franklin's countryfied soulful ghetto Detroit demeanor.

Last time i checked actors merely acted & portrayed people. Not that Halle will take this gig anyway.

Somebody ought to tell Aretha the most memorable biopics don't feature lipsynching but an actor 'having a go'. But that's the main problem, whoever takes the gig whether they can sing or not, is going to need some serious vocal training for a solid year to get close.

Aretha needs to give it a rest lol Halle is trying to be nice about it,but even she knows that this is a ridiculous idea.Aretha needs to stop embarassing herself and consider asking Regina King or Jennifer Hudson to play the role.

Agreed, but the real question is, since when did Aretha have the power to actually choose who she wants to play her in a movie? Is she bankrolling the film? Just sayin'.

Yeah,it seems like she is taking TOO MUCH CONTROL over this project lol She's forgetting that a major studio is gonna bankroll this thing so they're gonna have a say in this, too.

Why not just hold auditions for unknown actresses to play her? Why does every film have to be made by some major accomplished star these days? I'm sure they could find someone that looks more like her that way and also give a new actress a break into show business at the same time.

I agree.

Halle dont want nothing to do with it so.....so like Wendy suggested maybe she should set her sights on J-hudson shrug She could do it.

As long as Jennifer been popular, everyone has been saying that. Hell during that part where she's trying to regroup after she got kicked off the Dreams, Effie sure as hell looked like Ms. Franklin, circa 1970-1971.

I agree. Jennifer Hudson should be the one to play Aretha. She has the voice and can win over the audience playing Aretha. Aretha needs to come back to reality and get someone to play her that closer to how she looked when she was younger, and that would be Jennifer Hudson.

oh please, who cares if Halle is bi-racial? She's always been abundantly clear that she identifies as black, and she's from Cleveland, for gawd's sakes...and the pennyanny suburb she spent her high school years in is hardly posh. It's black and working class.

This don't sound right.

Aretha Franklin Begs Halle Berry to Reconsider Biopic Role

Halle Berry has said she couldn't play Aretha Franklin in a biopic about her life because she can't "carry a tune."

Not a problem for Franklin, who has said she wants the Oscar winner to portray her.

"Many actors have portrayed vocalists by lip-synching to the artist's original recordings," Franklin wrote in a letter read on the Wendy Williams show Monday.

Berry joked to Ryan Seacrest before the Golden Globes: "Someone should tell Aretha that I can't do her justice."

Couldn't find the source but I saw it on another board.

As a sidenote....It was too bad Berry didn't get nominated this year for Frankie and Alice. She was still a crackhead but it was a great movie. And at least she didn't screw anybody on camera like she did for that mess that shall not be named.
