There was a rumor in the early 1990's that Danny DeVito was going to direct a big screen remake of the 70's cop show Get Christie Love with Whitney Houston playing Christie. Young Whitney does resemble Teresa Graves in the face, but not the body. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Aretha is making herself look like a straight fool. If my Uncle Teddy was still alive, he would be fixing to say something about this. Something I couldn't repeat on this board, that's for sure. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

But seriously yeah even some folks when it comes to her health THINK she's actually lying about that too. So yeah I know your uncle would've said a wallop!

Oh yes, Uncle Teddy after a fifth of something "to make my dick hair stand on end", most probably either Wild Turkey or Old Grandad, would let loose with some comments that would make Red Foxx blush. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Regina King could do it.

Did anyone think this:
Could play this:

I just remembered this...
When there was early talk about an Aretha Franklin film, Halle wasn't the first one that was thought of... it was probably a rumor but it was on some Detroit news websites that Karen Clark Sheard (of the Clark Sisters) was gonna be the one to play Aretha... she and Karen apparently have a duet together on Aretha's yet-to-be-released new album.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Actually Karen Clarke -Sheard was signed on to play one of The Clara Ward Singers, as was LaShun Pace. Karem was never tapped to play Aretha . Additionally Aretha picked Nia Long to play Erma Franklin, Denzel Washington to play C. L. Franklin, the afoe-mentioned Terrence Howard for Smokey Robinson, and Blair Underwood for her brother Cecil Franklin.
Aretha did meet with Jennifer Hudson regarding the movie in NY a couple of years back. She has also in the past mentioned Fantasia Barrino as a candidate for one the Arethas.
IMHO, she could perhaps need as many as 3 or 4 Arethas based on her age and size shifts. Mo'Nique could play Aretha, they both are divas, bitchy and ghettocountryfied - since no real singing is required,

Last time i checked actors merely acted & portrayed people. Not that Halle will take this gig anyway.
Somebody ought to tell Aretha the most memorable biopics don't feature lipsynching but an actor 'having a go'. But that's the main problem, whoever takes the gig whether they can sing or not, is going to need some serious vocal training for a solid year to get close.

Aretha needs to give it a rest Halle is trying to be nice about it,but even she knows that this is a ridiculous idea.Aretha needs to stop embarassing herself and consider asking Regina King or Jennifer Hudson to play the role.

That sounds like some shit he would say too!!! I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Agreed, but the real question is, since when did Aretha have the power to actually choose who she wants to play her in a movie? Is she bankrolling the film? Just sayin'. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah,it seems like she is taking TOO MUCH CONTROL over this project She's forgetting that a major studio is gonna bankroll this thing so they're gonna have a say in this, too.

I agree. | |

It won't work
Halle: not wide enough, not big enough tits, and she doesn't look like her, the faces are completely different...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree. Jennifer Hudson should be the one to play Aretha. She has the voice and can win over the audience playing Aretha. Aretha needs to come back to reality and get someone to play her that closer to how she looked when she was younger, and that would be Jennifer Hudson.

i don't think Aretha's begging her rather than just expecting Halle to play her, because she is after all, The Queen, and no one dares say no to her requests
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
oh please, who cares if Halle is bi-racial? She's always been abundantly clear that she identifies as black, and she's from Cleveland, for gawd's sakes...and the pennyanny suburb she spent her high school years in is hardly posh. It's black and working class.

Halle Berry will do anything for an Oscar nomination. I'm sure she'd gain weight. Space for sale...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
As a sidenote....It was too bad Berry didn't get nominated this year for Frankie and Alice. She was still a crackhead but it was a great movie. And at least she didn't screw anybody on camera like she did for that mess that shall not be named.
