Honestly, it's not. I believe Beyonce and her camp WANTED it to be a cultural phenomenon. So they went to great lengths and organized a flash mob.
To this day, I have no idea what the song is about. All I can think about is how hard she is trying to be sexy in the video.

we'll see if people are playing Single Ladies or Irreplaceable 20 years from now. I suspect they will, just like all those Madonna songs in the 80s that people dismissed.

lowkey

maybe they should have named her the salesperson of the decade. im just wondering what is this person basing his/her opinion on. she hasnt sold the most records, she didnt have the biggest tours, the didnt have the top album in any of the years this decade did she? what exactly has she done to have this great honor bestowed upon her.

I'm just falloff at the thought of people seeing her as an artist when she has been accused of stealing songs numerous times and crediting herself for songs she didn't write. As horrible as she is, I think Britney Spears would've been a far better choice.

that it's a cultural phenomenon? it was... it was everywhere. people were doing their own versions and parodying it left and right, even Obama did the hand thing. It was a mammoth hit that was unavoidable. It's one of the songs that will define pop music this decade.

Right, it had no cultral impact at all.

I mean, it's not like there's thousands and thousands of copycat and parody videos of that song on Youtube or anything like that.

NO cultural impact at all!!!

i adore madonna and think she's incredible. but i remember the 80's all too well. people were dismissive of her and her talent, and said her success was all about image and sex and not the songs. and yet, the songs are classics now. beyonce has proven staying power. she's been at this for quite a while - she's not a fly-by night pop tart.

Yes, because she yells, correct? falloff I prefer Janet's meek voice to Beyonce's overbearing vocals

and plus Janet pushed boundaries when she was on the come up and so did Madonna and I find it sad that you would compare Beyonce to Madonna.

i disagree, i think there are some killer pop songs on Beyonce's last 2 albums. If I Were a Boy is terrific. Halo, Single Ladies, Ego, Get Me Bodied, Irreplaceable, etc..

For fuck's sake, they call EVERYBODY in the music business "artists"

By your standards, if not writing your own songs means you're not an artists, then that means the following people aren't.

And the lady in your avatar shouldn't be considered an "Artist", either.

Hell, I could make a case for Beyonce being much more of an "Artist" than her, because at least B sings live!!!

it's just ironic, because so many people accuse Janet of being talentless and the product of producers and her family name. How one can defend one and diss the other seems very odd to me, but whatevs biggrin

Girl, SIT DOWNE!! I don't know why you'll dragging Janet into this mess!!! and Janet sings live at times.

I just don't find anything creative or innovative about Beyonce's music. Her performance antics are exactly Tina Turner's but ungraceful.

At the end of the day, it's all opinion. It is not fact that Beyonce is better than Madonna is better than Janet.
