Beyonce is awesome! Other artists may be better fit for the title but she has worked hard to get where she is too. Its not a big deal IMO. So many shows and contests. Whos the best, king, queen, princess, artist, video etc etc. Making music is not about titles or awards. If you love it, all that other stuff means nothing. Prince has all the awards you can win, in the end its the music that matters most. Its what your remembered by.

Christina Aguilera messed up with that Back To Basics and went overboard on the slutty. Shakira definitely was in the running until she worked with Beyonce LOL. A lot of artists are more talented than Beyonce no doubt, but they lack that drive and hustle she maintains to get her shit across. I would not have thought Sasha Fierce had no 8 singles on it but somehow she made that album dominate!

Hell the only one who comes close to her hustle is Jay! lol

It's just like Madonna, I never thought she had the talent to make it to 50 and still selling out tours (and she really doesn't) but she has a serious drive to persist and that's why she's still relevant and rich.

Mariah gets by on sheer talent, once it faded, so did she....

It really is the Beyonce decade!

I'm surprised very few dudes have been mentioned. What about Jay-z, U2, Kanye West or Eminem?
Did Prince ever deny he had sex with his sister? I believe not. So there U have it..

Lil Whine sucks.

And Kanye would be the man if he didn't act so bipolar! But I would still have to put Jay and Em over him for male Artist of the Decade. Men haven't really dominated though. They keep "retiring" and shit LOL

I think the world is doomed when people here take this seriously.

This is just one person, or magazine's opinion.

Yeah, this decade hasn't been the best musically, but you can say that about any decade.

During the '90's, people shit on music from the 80's pretty badly.

Now, enough time has passed where people look back on the 80's fondly because of nostalgia.

Just like people are starting to become nostalgic about the 90's.

The only Beyonce singles that I enjoyed are 'Work It Out', 'Crazy In Love', 'Deja-Vu' and 'Sweet Dreams'. 'Single Ladies' was probably the most irritating song of the decade. Anyway... she doesn't deserve the title although she is definitely talented and among the Top 10 (based on popularity). But she chooses to sing so bad songs. I disagree with the comparisons to either Madonna (which I love), Janet (which I love too) or Mariah (which I don't particularly like). Madonna was changing her sound with every album and defined the female music video. Beyonce didn't. Janet produced 3 of the best (and very different thematically and musically) albums of the last 30 years. Beyonce didn't. Mariah (and Whitney) had breathtaking talent. Beyonce is talented but not to that extent. I think I would name Eminem, Jay-Z, Britney Spears or Shakira (as a non-american/british who made it big around the world) as much better choices for the title.

Beyonce has also been crowned 'the worlds greatest popstar' by a channel 4 poll that has been heavily promoted in the UK and took months to unveil.

From what I can remember she competed with:

- Madonna
- Robbie Williams
- Britney Spears
- Pink
- Kylie
- Take That
- Girls Aloud
- Eminem

What can you say? The UK public voted...

her first 2 albums have great material plus she's an actual musician.

Well if the teens and people in their early 20s voted then the competition would be basically among Beyonce, Britney, Girls Aloud and Eminem since the others don't appeal much in those ages (Kylie might but she hasn't released an album since last year, Pink is just not pop enough, neither is Robbie who also didn't release an album for years prior his last one, Madonna is too old, Take That are kinda dull for the kids). Eminem is a rapper so most young girls wouldn't name him and Girls Aloud have effectively their fanbase stolen by Cheryl Cole. That leaves Britney and Beyonce and I guess admiting liking Beyonce is less embarassing than Britney

Christina can dance? falloff News to me...

Didn't realise piling on the drag queen make up made you "hot" either...tho Beyonce does that sometimes too (but at least she doesn't need to).

The only thing she's got going for her is her voice and that hasn't been enough to keep her at the forefront, Beyonce and Britney have got her completely beat and now with Gaga here to stay, there's really no room for someone as plain and boring as Christina.

Beyonce has an exceptional voice and is extremely talented. She also has horrible songs that will not age well and spends too much time showing off her body for attention. It's hot right now but what about in 20 years. She should spend more time picking better songs for her projects and crating a lasting legacy of great music not just flavor of the moment tracks that get props on YouTube.

I agree with this. Beyonce is definitely talented- she's a great vocalist and performer

See this has always just confused me. I know it's about taste and people are entitled to their opinons but I just can't wrap my brain around Beyonce being a great vocalist. For ME, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Julie Andrews, Barbara Streisand, Glady's Knight, Ella Fitzgerald, Martha Wash, Whitney Houston (early days), Tamia, Kelly Price, Fantasia (when she isn't screaming), and possibly Jill Scott are great vocalist to me. I don't even believe Beyonce could survive American Idol. And from a technical standpoint, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and Jennifer Hudson could sing Beyonce under the table. Heck, I would just love to hear a simple whole note from Beyonce without her adding the "effected" acrobatics to it. Every note from her sound's forced.

And in terms of performing, yes she does have talent but the fact there isn't a origional thing about her, cancels out the talent she has. Yes Prince and Michael were obviously influenced by James Brown but they each were talented enough to add their own "spin" to it to create a style of their own. IMO, there is no "Beyonce Style" of performing. I agreed with what Simon Cowell said about her and not seeing what is so SPECIAL about her because there is nothing special or unique.

With regard to "Crazy In Love" being a classic, ask Amarie about that song and if the power of Matthew Knowles had it taken from her.

Lastly, what is the old saying, "Pretty get's you a pass"? Plus check out my tagline.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

I think people give Matthew Knowles a lot more power than he actually has.

Amerie has no right to bitch about Crazy in Love getting "taken" from her. Rich Harrison has the right to work with whoever the fuck he wants to, and just because Amerie worked with him 1st doesn't mean that other people aren't gonna want to work with him.

Shit just sounds like sour grapes to me. Beyonce didn't "steal her sound", she just worked with the producer that gave her the sound in the 1st damn place!

It would be like if Cherrelle started bitching about Janet stealing Jimmy & Terry away from her.

Not every pretty, light skinned chick becomes huge stars either. If that was the case then Amerie would be right behind Beyonce her damn self.

Folks would be here complaining that she got too much airplay and she her career wouldn't be where it is if she had dark skin.

The criticisms about Beyonce could be said about 15 other chicks out there, but because she's "on top" she gets the shit thrown her way.

What are the criteria for getting this label? Because if I gave it to someone it wouldn't solely be based on what I think about the songs and vocal ability. It's also number of hits, media hype, style and talent (and we can all agree on her not being untalented). When it comes to these things, especially hits and media hype, then I can't see it being an issue because Beyoncé has definitely been a topic (without mental breakdowns) like no other artist this decade. "Artist of the decade" doesn't have to mean "best artist of the decade".

LMFAO @ this entire fucking thread. And whoever said "As I Am" by A. Keys underperformed, check her RIAA certification. And I'm sure Sasha Fierce hasn't outsold it.

Artist of the decade like hell. And funny this is yet another Beyonce thread after my anti-Beyonce thread was condemned by the lemmings who love her so much. To those people saying she has classic songs... YOU'RE ON THAT BULLSHIT! She has popular, catchy, mind numbing singles that never die. They don't become cultural phenomenons, it's just that so many of her god damn fans are too lazy to establish their own personas and live life as themselves, that that ADOPT her clearly overly theatric antics as their own. I have a friend (male) who was going to be Sasha Fierce for Halloween. I still stand by my statement where I said she is not what gay men, naive women, and media outlets make her out to be. There's talent, but no grace. There's popularity, but no artistry. She's not a writer, she does too much stealing to be an innovator. And the shit she does is just to get your attention (i.e. ALWAYS DRESSING LIKE A VEGAS SHOWGIRL!) Bitch, you have a CLOTHING LINE! My advice is that you wear the failure instead of name dropping it in wack ass records (i.e. Get Me Bodied and Single Ladies). Bad enough she feels like everything she does empowers women (you sure about that one?) but people started believing that shit!

Her latest trap, excuse me "release" is "I Am... Yours" where she proceeds to tell the story of Destiny's Child, only to tell everyone in the audience how great her life is at the end. (With very special mention of her father, Matthew Knowles. She even bragged about her husband. How sickening.) There are better singers, better writers, REAL artists that deserve the acclaim, and real stories that deserve coverage. I'm getting tired of seeing this bitch everywhere. And to the morons who will undoubtedly tell me turn off my radio or stop watching her videos I DON'T DO ANY OF THAT SHIT! She's just EVERYWHERE! She could have damn advertisements on the side of buses. What am I supposed to do? Never go outside? Her career is a well played ploy. A reason to piss me off, and keep people paid. And it's still working.

Peace, Hip Hop & Purple Rain.
