A legend in record sales and superficial enterntainment (you know i am bad? heal the world, make it a better place?)

Its rather telling to see the current day black community here embracing a kid with a lot of succes, and a fucked up private life, a guy who didnt even want to be black, and was all about surface and fantasies.

You are fucked up and messed up. Try some common sense.

I can understand you don't like the man. Personally I don't care, but dissing other people's preferences is tasteless.

Why get yourself all rattled up about it, and stick to discussing what you like.

Some of the top entertainers today have called him a genius and one of the greatest entertainers ever. Sad that people still think he didn't want to be black after 3 doctors and his makeup person came out and said he had vitiligo.

People here are simply living in their own dreamland.

Just because MJ sold a lot of records, doesnt make him important in the end. Disney-movies and things like Terminator and Die Hard did do well in the cinema. It doesnt mean he is an important artist on an artistic level.

MJ was a fucked up person, not sure he wanted to be white or black, not sure he did like Lisa Marie Presley or Little Boys, but that is just the context. After the succes of Thriller (a nice album, i admit) he was SO obsessed with having even more succes, getting even bigger, that he forgot what being a musician is really about: expressing yourself, and developping yourself in that field.

Someone like Miles Davis lived like that, but did he get as much respect after he died?

You rather embrace some overrated pop-troll like MJ right? It tells a lot about you, I repeat.

I'm appalled at that video from the doctor. No mention of Michael. No mention of regret at a tragedy. No mention of any condolences to Michael's family. I know he's probably been legally advised not to say anything, but that "thank you to my supporters" (WHO?) is so uncalled for and inappropriate, it's just made me angry.

Michael's gone. Hes not coming back. He was negligent and if the evidence is there and law enforcement act accordingly then he'll pay through the system hopefully. I doubt anyone is gunning for his blood as there are far more shady characters who should be held responsible. Even Michael himself holds a large part in it.

What was that video FOR? It's not an apology. It's not a declaration of innocence. It's not even fucking tactful by addressing sadness at the situation. It's self serving and even egotistical. That just made me so angry and I never felt that way about him before.

We're seeing the beginning of the "blame the victim" strategy. Rest assured that every effort will be made to portray MJ as a wealthy nutcase who destroyed his life although the good doctor did all he could to rescue him from the pit of addiction.

It ALWAYS pissed me off about MJ. He'd sound so sensible in those print interviews like Ebony and Vibe etc. He made these wonderful statements about music and legacy, and all the while we knew he was doing the exact opposite. In the last 10 or so years he never stayed true to his word about melodic music from the heart (at least in what was released). Most of all he obviously just got complacent with all the yes-men around him. The trial killed his whole spirit IMO.

Britney Spears and The Jonas Brothers were / are popular too.

Don't mistake quantity with quality.

MJ was way obsessed with the surface, with chart-succes, with trying to sell more copies then Thriller did. That was more important to him then developing himself and expressing himself on a creative level.

He was nothing more then a little kid that thought he failed when he looked like his father Joe, when he couldnt sell more albums then he did with Thriller, a sneaky guy with pedophilic tendencies also: instead of seeking professional help for that, he was probably thinking i am the 'king of pop', i can go my way.

I have to agree. I don't think Michael really had the heart anymore. And near the end he was working only sporadically with people like Akon (they only did one track) and will.i.am (they did two tracks). Nothing with Ne-Yo or anyone that was rumored to be "working with him". Plus I think his spirit was literally damaged DURING the trial.

Yeah, at the onset of his recording career, Prince told the media that he was partly of Italian hertiage. Only when he could not break free of his contract with Warner did he reclaim his, well, Blackness, writing "Slave" on his face and using a slavery analogy to describe his predicament.

Michael was a lot of things. We'll never be sure what Michael was really him. Did he know? Did he not know? Was he truthful, did he lie a bit? Was he a manipulator? Was he also set up? Did he hate his dad, did he love his dad, did he want to tour, did he not want to tour? Was he sick when he was rehearsing, was he well when he was rehearsing? Did he really isolate from his family? Did he always believed there was a conspiracy? He was either a good businessman or business-dumb. Did he hire his doctor, did AEG hire him?

Too many questions, not too many answers.
