while i do hope that the casket is closed, i think having it there will help to bring a sense of finality to all of this. to his life, his career, to the worldwide mourning, the media hoopla, etc.

at the moment, it's all just a little unreal and in some ways still unbelievable. it IS a funeral/memorial service after all, not a rock concert. having the casket there will make it more real. more somber, also, but it can be an important part of the grieving process for a lot of people.

i don't know how i feel about the casket being there. on the one hand, i think it's an important part of the grieving process for a lot of fans, but on the other hand, i can totally understand those who want this to be something bittersweet and almost joyous, as in a celebration of all the good things and happy memories he created. i hope it can be both things for people.

sad Can't believe it. Just saw the casket too.

Please let it remain closed at the memorial service! I can't handle an open casket at all. I hate funerals for one and almost everytime I've gone to one, I have avoided looking at the body. Today is no exception. I don't want to see and I don't want people gawking over Michael and haters & others making stupid, low class comments about his appearence. Let him die with some dignity.

I don't think they'll have the casket open.

Especially when his organs have been removed from autopsy:-(

Tom Joyner is one of the most long standing, respected radio personalities in the black American community for 35+ years, as well as one of the premier philanthropists for American HBCUs which Michael was known to be a generous supporter of. Michael gave alot of money to Joyner's efforts through the years and Joyner has a very respectful (on and off-air) relationship with that family. It's not unreasonable that he has a line of communication to the family, either directly or via a mutual business colleague or friend in the Jackson family's presence even at this difficult time. There are, in fact, several members of the Jacksons' familial and friend circle who have permission to speak on their behalf certain to American press outlets from within the Jackson compound in Encino. If you listened to certain American radio stations you would know this already. hmm. They've been very open with having their family and legal reps call in to give udates to long-standing friends in the media. some of it clinical and cold, and other interviews very poignant with the appropriate amount of info on the family's personal status right now. Just sayin'...

As I said How the hell does he know ?

About time he gets laid to rest. I'm so cool on Al Sharpton,Jessie Jackson and Joe Jackson. They've been Shuckin and Jivin non stop for almost 2 weeks. Some people acting like MJ is going to jump out the casket and perform a medley of hits. Oh well, let the circus continue. May you RIP..Michael

funny you feel that way, actually Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson and Joe have all been getting on my last nerves. Why all of a sudden is Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson the so-called spokespeople for the Jacksons? Where were they when Michael was on trial? Exactly. Now all of a sudden they all up in the media over this???

Anywho, I'll be watching the memorial, the only other thing irrirating me is how the media is asking why Prince has said anything, or why Prince hasn't confirmed he's going to be at the memorial? i mean really, is it any of there business???? Shut up already, damn.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Damn a man works hard all his life and can't be laid to rest on his own land...wtf?

That doesn't matter. It happens all of the time where they have an open casket after an autopsy has been performed. The subject is cut from behind (generally down the back) to perform an autopsy. As long as the face and head is in tact, you can have an open casket.

correct. on very rare occassions can people be buried outside of a cemetery. Elvis was first buried in a cemetery until there were threats to steal the body. He'd have to be cremated if they want him at Neverland.

Well, we'll have to see if they have an open casket, but I'm hoping they won't, Not because I'm freaked by open caskets but this "funeral" is taking place nearly 2 wks after his death.

I wish they'd not have done this, but that's how it's gonna be. sad

even during the embalming process, the organs are removed. i won't give further details (except to say that they put them back in) because as i was typing it out i realized that it was morbid and inappropriate. but every body you've seen in a casket has had its organs removed at some point.
