Well, even Dr. Cornell West spoke about "similarities" last week, and he is a minister and theological historian.

But, I don't want to compare them. All I know is, Michael tried his best to follow the path and teachings of Jesus Christ. MJ has stated this before. I suppose the world's reaction to him is evidence that he was successful.....

Apologies to you & Dr. West but anyone drawing parallels between the 2 needs to check themselves neutral My goodness, people really take shit too far exclaim

This is why I don't want to discuss this. U seem to be thinking about blasphemy, which I am certainly not implying AT ALL. To say MJ "followed" Christ and His instructions is not a ludicrous statement that needs to be checked. I am not idolizing Michael Jackson, and I am certainly not equating him to Jesus Christ (and neither was Dr. West).

The parallels West spoke of were based on his evaluation of their human experiences. He was not calling Michael Jackson a deity, and neither am I.

And that is FACT.

E.Casanova (the best MJ tribute artist/impersonator I've seen) can't even get that spin formation perfectly. Only Michael Jackson. I LOVE that.....The incredible part is that Michael apparently developed a superhuman neurological resistance to dizziness, lol. He has never looked off-balance or disoriented after spinning. When he did those long 6-8 rotation spins and landed on his knees, he still never appeared dizzy.

Speaking of his knees, I've always wanted to know how they felt when he finished dancing, as well as his head and neck. I've wondered if they were ever stiff or in pain after a show, 'cause along with that knee-drop move, no one can whip their neck back or to the side as hard, fast, and repetitive like Michael Jackson either. NO ONE! lol.

This is a technique known in dance as spotting. It keeps you from getting dizzy when you're doing a tour or turn. Classically trained dance personalities always remarked how Jackson was the best natural dancer they'd ever seen; he incorporated classical and jazz techniques into his signiture routines so easily it was like the man came out the womb straight into a dance studio. The speed at which he does his 6-8 turn spin is almost equivilent to half the record 32 turns performed in the 19th century ballet Swan Lake, he was that damn fast. Even legendary ballet danseur Najinsky could only crank out 4 turns maximum during his entire career (although his were en l'air, aka in the air). I guess with Mike, we've seen one of the last great dancers in popular entertainment. He belongs in the ranks of Fred Astaire and the great Sammy Davis Jr. I can't think of any young pop stars to today who should remotely be mentioned in the same breath as them. We've set the bar too low for what it takes to become a pop entertainment icon today. The one good thing that's coming out of Jackson's death, is that in re-visting how talented he was we're faced with how pale the generation after him is in comparison. In a perfect world this would inspire these younger performers to aim for a higher standard in their work and performance ethic....but somehow I doubt it will... lol

Thanks for that info! thumbs up!

And all this time I thought MJ had a superpower. lol

Why do people keep talking about a FUNERAL like this?

I keep seeing people all happy and excited about watching or attending, you do realise the man is DEAD, leaving behind 3 young children, never to make music or set foot on stage again.

He's GONE FOREVER and you're celebrating?!

mad

Hi guys, does anyone know which channel will be showing today's tribute live in the UK? And for that matter, which you expect to give a better coverage?

I read on the BBC site that CNN, and BBC2 are both showing - but obviously the tv guides do not have it listed as they were printed ahead of the planning. I also heard that channel 5 may be showing it.

Cheers,

Just plain disgusting:

Michael Jackson’s Memorial Service: The Least You Need To Know

This morning, pop icon Michael Jackson will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial in the Hollywood Hills. The funeral, expected to a be a private affair, will be diametrically opposed to the star-studded memorial to follow at the AEG-owned Staples Center. Here’s what you need to know:

What’s going on, exactly?

AEG Live, the concert-promotion arm of AEG, was originally scheduled to stage 50 concerts by Jackson before his untimely demise. The organization is now hosting a musical memorial extravaganza dedicated to the artist at approximately 10 a.m. PST.

Who’s performing?

Among others, Mariah Carey, Usher, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson and Jennifer Hudson are all slated to participate. Beyoncé and Whitney Houston will reportedly make appearances as presenters, but not performers.

What family members will be in attendance?

People reports that “lots and lots of family” will be coming — “We’re talking about 300 cousins and 40 grandkids and great grandkids and some of the old acts the Jackson 5 used to perform with, like the Chi-Lites will be there.”

Who will not be there?

Jackson ex-wife Debbie Rowe will not be in attendance, after previously RSVP’ing yes. Jacko pal Elizabeth Taylor also declined to participate, Tweeting: “I cannot be part of the public whoopla. And I cannot guarantee that I would be coherent to say a word. I just don’t believe that Michael would want me to share my grief with millions of others.”

How can I get a ticket?

If you haven’t already picked up your winning lottery ticket and wristband, you’re out of luck. And don’t bother looking on eBay or Craigslist — the auction giants have said they will not tolerate resales and have been yanking listings as they go up.

What if I really, really want to watch it?

Well, in addition to the sure-to-be-endless network and cable tv coverage, Hulu and MySpace will be live-streaming the event online. Additionally, Cendigm, a digital events company, has arranged with the Jackson family and AEG to broadcast the high-def goings-on in 88 movie theaters — accommodating approximately 17,000 people.

Sounds like a big deal. Who’s paying for all this?

The added security and post-event cleaning are estimated to set the city of L.A. back up to $2.5 million. Perfect for the cash-strapped city!

----
sigh Treating him like the fucking Truman Show as they always have. mad

True, CA officials went after him with all types of accusations, not to mention how the media smeared him as well and now both are cashing in on his death. What a travesty. I wish the family just had a private burial for him and left it at that. The whole thing just seems like a circus now.

The concert tribute is not necessarily a bad idea, but there are a lot of things that would make it more acceptable in my opinion:

• 100% of the proceeds going to charity
• No audience members - event is simulcast to multiple free networks

Keep in mind that this is exactly what Michael would've wanted. A star-studded (including family), over-the-top blockbuster celebration to a full-capacity crowd and broadcast over TV. Everything in his history of performance points to this.

Here's to hoping that it's done as tastefully and respectfully as possible. We will see when it's over.

Thanks. Im going with BB2 in the hope that any possible channel-specific commentary would be more civil than anything from sky or CNN.

Like others, I hope that it is tasteful.

I dont mind if the performers did not really know MJ - I think as long as the performance is tasteful and a mark of his passing, rather than some over the top self-publicity, then that could work. We will see. I am glad Stevie is there - that man has a connection as well as clear musical ability (genius), same for Lionel if he is playing.
