No excuse, but a bit of an eye opener.

He mentioned the abuse, but was adamant it wasn't his father. I assume it was a live-in boyfriend or something.

Terrible. And, yes, definitely an eye opener with regard to how the abuse cycle works.

Well I think they'll charge him with assault later, read this:

Singer Chris Brown under investigation in alleged assault
10:19 PM, February 8, 2009

R&B singer Chris Brown, one of the biggest-selling performers in pop music, was booked tonight in Los Angeles on charges stemming from an alleged assault on his girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna, according to police and other sources familiar with the investigation.

An official police statement did not name Rihanna, but said the woman in the incident “suffered visible injuries.”

Details of what took place between the two were sketchy, but authorities and sources said that about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Brown and a woman got into an argument in a rented Lamborghini on North June Street in Hancock Park. Brown stopped the car, the two got out, and the argument escalated. A witness called 911, but police said Brown was gone by the time officers arrived at the scene. The woman identified Brown as her assailant.

Authorities did not describe her injuries or whether she was treated for them.

The sources said the woman was Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.

Brown was booked on a charge of making criminal threats, and police said he remained under investigation for felony charges of domestic violence. “The exact charge was criminal threats and it is going to be investigated as a criminal threats investigation,” said Police Sgt. Bridgett Pickett, who spoke to reporters at the Wilshire Division police station, where Brown was booked. “There may be domestic violence charges added later, but that will be up to the district attorney’s office.”

Pickett defined a criminal threat as “a threat that is made to a person with the likelihood that it may occur.” She said that Brown arrived at the police station about 6:30 p.m. dressed in a T-shirt and jeans. “He was very professional,” she said. Brown was joined at the station by his lawyer, Mark Geragos, and Geragos’ investigator, Scott Ross.

After posting $50,000 bail, Brown left the station before 9 p.m.

Both Brown and Rihanna had been scheduled to perform at the Grammy Awards, which began at 5 p.m. at Staples Center. Neither appeared, and Grammy officials issued a statement just before the show saying, "We have just been informed Rihanna will not be attending tonight’s 51st Grammy Awards. Rihanna will not be performing. We are sorry to see she is unable to join us this evening.”

A publicist for the Barbados-born star, who sold more digital song downloads than any other in 2008, with nearly 10 million tracks, said Sunday night, “Rihanna is well. Thank you for your concern and support.”

Her song “Disturbia,” which she’d been scheduled to perform at the ceremony, was the sixth best-selling digital track of the year. She was replaced by veteran soul singer Al Green, who was accompanied by country singer-guitarist Keith Urban.

Brown and Rihanna had appeared together Saturday night at producer Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy gala in Beverly Hills.

A spokesman for Brown’s record label did not respond to The Times’ request for comment. Brown finished 2008 as the fourth-best-selling artist in the digital realm, posting 6.8 million tracks sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Ahh...more details. Thanks, but now I have to wait longer to know for certain if my theory about this situation is correct, LOL.

I don't think he'll be charged with physical assault....But, like I said before, I may be wrong about this case, and he just may have attacked her face and/or body. shrug Either way, Chris Brown is a TOTAL FOOL. That, I know for sure. lol

I gather this is a preliminary charge. Recently, state and federal law enforcement agencies have used the charge of terrorist or criminal threat to prosecute a variety of different crimes. Among them are instances involving hate crimes, domestic violence, bomb threats, and school violence.

In most "domestic" assault cases the initial contact police have with the victim yield a more accurate detail(s)/picture of what transpired. I doubt this was a case of these two having a BIG nasty argument, he threaten to kicked her ass, and he left her by the curb. If she had any visible bruises, LAPD has taken pictures. If Rihanna went to the hospital that report will be given to the LAPD, and I'm sure they've noted or recorded her initial conversations with them.

Grammy Night: Hits And Hitting
Monday, February 09, 2009
By Roger Friedman

The Grammy Awards are supposed to be about hits—that is, hit records. But all anyone could talk about was a drama that unfolded during the afternoon as the 2009 Grammy Awards commenced on the red carpet: this was about hitting, not hits.

Despite the Los Angeles Police Department’s odd press releases, the music community at the Grammys knew this much: hip hop star Chris Brown and his girlfriend, superstar singer Rihanna, were allegedly involved in a brutal altercation late Saturday night.

The result was that Brown, 19, had been arrested and released after posting $50,000 bail. Rihanna, 20, had suffered some kind of injury—described by some as possibly a broken nose and/or jaw.

This much is known: the couple left Clive Davis’s pre-Grammy bash around midnight on Saturday going into Sunday, missing Whitney Houston’s big finale. They had not appeared to be arguing, and there have been no subsequent reports of trouble at the party.

What happened next is fuzzy. Their fight took place in Brown’s Lamborghini, in the Hancock Park section of Los Angeles, maybe around 12:30 a.m. There isn’t much room in the cabin of a Lamborghini, so they may have gotten into some kind of dispute outside the car.

Rihanna, a source says, is no wallflower. “She’s got a temper, and she can get right in your face.”

On Sunday, a source who knows the couple told this reporter: “Chris Brown has beaten up Rihanna and disappeared. She was sent to the hospital because it was so bad.”

At first, I couldn’t believe it. But other insiders confirmed similar accounts, and in time, Brown surrendered to LAPD and posted his bail.

The real immediate problem was that the pair missed Sunday rehearsals for the Grammy Awards. Insiders at the production company confirmed to me around 3 p.m. that neither performer would be at the show. Hasty arrangements had to be made to replace them.

Now Brown faces charges of “criminal threat” that could be elevated to domestic dispute or more. Rihanna is allegedly home with some kind of injury. Reputations have been hurt, and legal problems could be just around the corner if Brown’s arrest turns into something more serious.

One of the things about violence against human beings whether it's based on race, ethnicity, sex, or faith.. it always starts with debasing those individuals or groups. Words such as whore or bitch, gives credence to seeing others as less than human, hence violence towards them. While others see these words as funny or not damaging, those who herald such insults (even when your "joking") shouldn't have a problem with their daughters, grandmothers, mothers, and or sisters being called bitch or whore whenever or by whomever at anytime. Just a thought.....
CHRIS BROWN UPDATE: Rihanna was hospitalized with multiple injuries to her face.
February 9, 2009

*More details have emerged regarding the chain of events leading up to Sunday's early morning arrest of Chris Brown, 19, amid suspicions of domestic violence following a pre-Grammy event on Saturday night.

Authorities will not identify the woman involved, citing confidentiality for victims of domestic abuse. However, several outlets – including the Los Angeles Times – have confirmed the victim as Brown's 20-year-old girlfriend Rihanna, and EUR learned exclusively that she remained hospitalized later Sunday with massive injuries sustained to her face.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source close to the investigation has said that Brown was driving Rihanna in his rented Lamborghini through the Hancock Park section of Los Angeles, as published reports have stated, when the two began arguing for reasons that are still not clear.

Tensions escalated and Brown stopped the car on North June Street. The couple got out and Brown allegedly struck Rihanna more than once in the face, leaving her with enough wounds to warrant a hospital stay, according to our source. We were told that Brown ran off on foot after the alleged beatdown and took the car keys with him, leaving Rihanna stranded at the scene.

A witness called 911 shortly after midnight, but Brown was long gone when officers arrived. Police said Rihanna suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker.

We were told that Rihanna's camp made authorities and hospital workers sign a confidentiality agreement forbidding them to share any information about the case.

After word got out that authorities were looking to question Brown, and that he would be arrested on sight if he failed to surrender by midnight, Brown arrived at the Wilshire Division police station before 7:15 p.m., accompanied by his attorney Mark Geragos and Geragos' investigator, Scott Ross.

Brown is currently free after posting $50,000 bail Sunday night just before 9 p.m. So far, he is charged with suspicion of making felony criminal threats, but police have stated that additional charges may be filed when the case is presented to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. Our source believes more charges are sure to come, based on the photos of Rihanna's injuries alone.

Seems that Brown fled on foot from the scene of the incident with the car keys of the rented sports car.

According to a police statement, the 19 year old R&B star and an unidentified woman were in a vehicle around 12:30am on Sunday on North June street in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles when, according to the victim, they became involved in an argument. After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker. The LAPD received a 911 call reporting the disturbance. When officers arrived they found the victim, but Brown had already left the scene. Police tell RadarOnline.com that the victim had visible injuries, making the charge felony battery. Brown surrendered to authorities at 7:15pm Sunday night and was later released on $50,000 bail. Police say additional charges may be filed against him when the case is presented to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

The big question remains: Who is the woman? The L.A. times is reporting that the woman was in fact fellow R&B star Rihanna. The whereabouts of the 20-year old Barbados-born singer remain a mystery. A publicist for Rihanna would only release this statement: "Rihanna is well. Thank you for concern and support."

Brown and Rihanna had been together Saturday night in Beverly Hills at the pre-Grammy gala hosted by the Grammy-sponsoring Recording Academy and veteran music executive Clive Davis.

Both Brown and Rihanna both ended up canceling their performances at Sunday night's Grammys.

Brown is scheduled to appear in court on March 5th.

I don't know how true this is but according to www.mediatakeout.com they're saying that Rihanna is NOT going to press charges against Chris Brown.

http://www.mediatakeout.c...ators.html

February 09, 2009. MediaTakeOut.com just got some BREAKING NEWS. According to a person close to Rihanna, the R&B singer will not file criminal charges against R&B singer Chris Brown for assault and battery.

Last night, Chris Brown was arrested and released on $50,000 bail in connection with an alleged assault against R&B singer Rihanna Fenty. As MediaTakeOut.com reported to you yesterday, Chris and Rihanna got into a scuffle while leaving Saturday night’s Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy party.

A person close to the situation told MediaTakeOut.com that the scuffle was caused by the couple’s recent break up. As MediaTakeOut.com reported to you weeks ago, the couple had been ratcheting down on their high-profile love affair. Numerous sources confirmed to MediaTakeOut.com that Chris wanted to END the relationship - but Rihanna didn’t.

We should be clear. It's not clear what occurred during the scuffle - or who did what to whom.

But things have changed since Saturday night. Now MediaTakeOut.com can EXCLUSIVELY report that Rihanna does NOT want Chris Brown to be criminally punished for the alleged assault. According to an EXTREMELY reliable insider, Rihanna is NO LONGER assisting investigators in their criminal case against Chris Brown.

Unfortunately for Chris, that’s probably not going to make the charges go away. Police claim that, on the scene of the incident, Rihanna identified Chris Brown as the man who assaulted her. Additionally, police have physical evidence. MediaTakeOut.com can OFFICIALLY CONFIRM that Rihanna’s face and arm were severely bruised in the incident and Chris suffered from minor bruising as well.

There is some evidence in Chris’ favor, however. For example, according to a MediaTakeOut.com reader on the scene, Rihanna did NOT call the police alleging that Chris assaulted her. It was a bystander that called 9-1-1. Shortly afterwards, the police arrived on scene and interviewed Rihanna.

We’ll continue bringing you periodic updates into exactly what’s going on in this story. Trust when we tell you that NO OTHER NEWS SOURCE in the world has more access to the people around Chris and Rihanna than MediaTakeOut.com does.

Also just to clear things up, there are a few FAKE rumors out there that we need to clear up:

First, the woman who was allegedly assaulted WAS RIHANNA not some “friend”. Many news organizations are reluctant to release the name of a domestic violence victim. MediaTakeOut.com, however, believes that there is a pressing public interest to know all that happened.

Second, there was no car accident. Chris and Rihanna’s PR team made up the whole “accident” story to hide what truly happened in the car that night

Third, Chris did not punch Rihanna in her face because she gave him herpes. This rumor is floating around the net and it’s A LIE. Chris saw the cold sore just like the rest of us weeks ago – and it didn’t stop him from messing with her. This story is nothing to joke about. Domestic violence is a serious subject, and Chris Brown is facing serious charges – we shouldn’t make up fake ish about this situation

Here's how TMZ is reporting it:

Law enforcement sources tell us the crime report calls the incident assault with a deadly weapon -- we do not yet know the nature of the weapon.

The crime report gives the victim's name as Robyn Fenty -- that's Rihanna's real name.

Chris should learn that it's better to count to 100 and walk away instead of hitting a lady.

She is too young to sing "Take A Punch" instead of "Take A Bow"

If the STD rumors are true it would be hard for a guy his age or probably any age to act calmly.

I don't think any of us would react like the lady in this clip.

TMZ Update:

Rihanna/Chris Brown -- No Weapon

Posted Feb 9th 2009 1:08PM by TMZ Staff

Law enforcement sources tell us even though the police report in the Chris Brown arrest refers to assault with a deadly weapon, there was no weapon involved in the alleged attack.

The police report cites Penal Code Section 245 -- Assault with a Deadly Weapon. However, we're told there was no weapon involved.

We had been hearing there was an umbrella in the car -- which would have been the most ironic thing ever -- but again... no weapon is alleged. By the way, a persons foot or other body part can be considered a deadly weapon depending on the circumstances.

One law enforcement source who has been dead on so far claims Rihanna suffered contusions and bite marks.

Story developing...
