No, but it does make her on par with Mya and Ciara as far as vocal talent is concerned in my opinion as I indicated in my initial post. Those two get bashed here by some for their lack of vocal talent. What's the difference? The family name to back them up and two damn good producers covering up their vocal flaws.

No, it doesn't. Ciara and Mya can only dream of reaching the heights Janet's reached in her career. Mya actually has a decent voice but it gets annoying after awhile.

Here's a video I found on both Ciara and Janet's voice. Basically Ciara's voice sucks! Does she even have a range?

This has nothing to do with how famous Ciara and Mya are not going to get compared to Janet. I said (for the like the 3rd time) in my opinion the three of them have the same vocal talent (same voice --no, same level of vocal talent --yes). The only difference is that Janet has a famous family name which got her better producers at a critical time of her career. Her first two albums did not do well. Mya and Ciara at the same time of their careers did not have the family name brand backing them up.

and the video you posted only proves my point. Janet --better producers and material. And on top of all of that were either of the women singing live without studio vocal enhancements. I think not. lol

I think one point missing from this is that at the Control period Janet also starting writing more of her own material with Jam & Lewis. So to not factor this into her success is robbing her of the contribution.

Having the Jackson family name while opening doors was also a hindrance, would she have the talent to back it up. History shows us she did.

Exactly what hindrance did having the "Jackson" family name have on Janet in 1986 when the two hottest producers at the time wanted to work with her because of that family name? The music they composed for her effectively hid or distracted from her vocal flaws. Combine that with taking some of The Time's stage schtick and a little bit of MJ's dance moves -- bam! Hit music. If it weren't for her family name she probably wouldn't have gotten a third shot at a solo album after two flops.

What's your point? If your trying to prove the only reason why Janet is successful is due to her family name then thats just ridiculous! Janet was introduced to J&L by her then manger McClain and so what if they wanted to work with her because she's MJ's sister! That doesn't make her any less talented then she is!

lol You do realize that the Jackson brothers are all famous in their own right due to being in the Jackson 5 and The Jacksons there after. Then there MJ alone. So again. Via her famous siblings people tend to think she is a more talented singer than she really is.

They were famous as The Jackson 5 and The Jackson (mainly thanks to Michael, though). They were never famous as soloists.

Jermaine did good as a solo artist. But yes, Michael is THE King in that family of siblings.

I think she has a good tone and I love the sound of her voice, she doesn't have a powerful voice or one that can belt out the notes, but I enjoy it. A good singer.

I think she succeeds at getting the most out of a limited voice. That's what great vocalists do, IMO. Doesn't mean she's a great singer but that she's mastered doing what her voice does best.

She does have a pleasant voice. For most of her career she used her limited singing abilities very well.

That shit is so 80's..

Besides I didn't know having 5 tours, over 60 singles, winning awards and 10 albums in 27 years could amount to being "Michael's sister" bored2

My point, as I stated several messages ago was that basically there is no difference in vocal talent between Janet and people like Ciara and Mya who are routinely bashed by some on this site while Janet gets praised for her singing. And I'm not a fan of Mya Ciara's voices either so don't go there either. lol

It's a matter of opinion. I disagree - I cannot see Mya or Ciara even attempting half of the stuff Janet has sung over the decades and getting it right.
